It's horrible how people take advantage of others. I'm so happy the judge saw through the defendant's lies. And awarded the plaintiff double plus interest. Serves the horrid guy right!

She loves these types of cases because this was both her Dad and her brothers line of work(construction)…. JM knows her stuff. Her and Judge Judy are my favorite two judges

He's lucky he didn't get struck down by lightning for lying about that after swearing to God!!!

Defendant is hella shady. Dodging questions until forced to by the judge, either stealing or misusing his boss's contract for his own gain. Stealing that couples money and had zero intention of actually doing the work. What a piece of work. I have no doubt that he just saw them as an old couple he could take advantage of. I wonder how that Adrian doofus will try and whine about this.

As the son of a contractor, cases like this make me sick. They also make me remind my father to always have his paperwork in order and keep good records just in case of lunatic clients. In all of his years of contracting, he's only had trouble with just one client. Woman was a nutjob. Former repeat client of his who suddenly wasn't happy with his last job and demanded ludicrous amounts of money to go away.

Haven't even watched this case yet but i can see LOSER written all over the defendants face.

Doug should have asked the plaintiffs if they were going to take the judges advice and go after the business as well. I kind of feel bad for the business because they technically didn't do anything wrong, but he was operating under the businesses name and license and so I think they should take her advice and the business should definitely fire this guy

They received their money. That is how the People's Court worked. It came out of the pay for his appearance. After all, losing defendants (and plaintiffs) get paid in order to get the Doug Llewelyn treatment at the end.

@@SmilingSynic nah, they both get an appearance fee. The show pays the judgement, so the ‘winner’ knows for sure they get the money. Nothing is taking out of the defendants pay, he only received an appearance fee. (and hotel and travel)

Only pay contractors in the amount of work they do for the day. If they work 10% of the job today, they get 10% of the pay. If they work 0% of the job, they dont get paid today. No upfront payments, if they need money upfront for materials, move on to the next contractor...
