Not ALONE anymore, Overlanding Zambia // EP. 47

Zambia, the sixth country in Africa we're crossing on our overland tour around the world.
But one thing changed we're not alone anymore, my (Kai) Family is visitng us and will follow us around in Zambia. We put an exciting plan together for the next two weeks, visiting National Parks, driving offroad, wild camping / bush camping and much more. But to get started we first need to pick them up in the capital Lusaka, therefore we need to cross half the country, going from Chipata to Lusaka. Then get the rental Car and practice driving in African on the great east road of Zambia.
The rental company set us up with several challenges including the Not so reliable Toyota Prado…
Enjoy the Ride!

    @@Thebluelandy hmm not sure I have a favourite, I like how you present the good and the bad, I understand your struggle to find remote places. I would say the most spectacular views were during the desert travel. This is why I travel like I do as well, not because I really like to go on the muddiest road, but to get to the more remote beautiful places. To start full time traveling - 2 things are stopping us, first is the fact that we have a kid with 3 more years of high school to do, and also we hope by the time he finishes school, we will be able to take 6 months of unpaid leave without losing the jobs we have (me and my wife). We are not so young anymore and after we got trough many economic crisis it is hard to just quit the good job you have, we are not so courageous like you, and at a certain age you can have issues finding a new job. Enough savings and a vehicle we already have - a 4 door Jeep wrangler with a small off road trailer. Thank you again for the videos and I appreciate the time you put in to present us your adventures.

Allegedly I was doing 42 in a 20 zone, the officer stopped me and told me to go and see the police lady in the car which was parked a few meters away, still sleeping she asked, "how much", she did not even look at me, eyes closed, I am not kidding, I said, "madam, I only have 30 kwacha", she said "put it in my hand" - yep still eyes closed - LOL!!!! It was therefore also pretty special that our family saw their first animals as well on the side of the road, and it was a superb start to some epic time in NPs.

    Aaah yes, the LC Prado 150. A vehicle driven by those with not a single adventurous bone in their body. Hey guys, I've enjoyed you episodes so far but in this episodes I heard something disturbing and maybe it's my fault I didn't quite understand what you meant as I understand english is not your native language. I've heard you calling those mechanics 'drunk', now obviously if they manage to fix your car they were not that drunk and even so why would you choose to call them stereotype names with a colonial contempt ? Didn't you go there with an open mind to learn about other cultures? Then I hear you complaining about the pot holes, don't you guys have an off-roader ? Are you guys judging the world by german autobahn standards?

  • @Thebluelandy

    @Thebluelandy

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for your comment. I think is important to clarify, as we don't show any other background information of the scene. The guys were smelling like alcohol and they needed somebody driving them (looked like the wife of one of them) to our hostel, workshop and back. So yes, it's a fact that they were drunk. We were happy that they showed up at this time to fix the car! Critisizing them or the rental company comes form the standpoint that our family paid a lot of money for a rental car that was not only delivered late, but broken and incomplete. This by all standards around the world is just a bad service. Regarding the potholes, we take it with humor! And trust me (Irati) I think German Autobahn should never be the gold standard, it's awful.

  • @frank-lr

    @frank-lr

    oh dear... In what world is calling someone who actually _is_ drunk 'stereotypical' or 'colonial'? 🥱As for potholes, it seems YOU have never driven a longer stretch of severely 'potholed' roads. Been to Ireland? Iceland? Italy? It's strenous and dangerous and even the locals hate it. So if YOU see anything derogatory here, it's probably just how YOU see things. Also your last sentence is ridiculous, if not offending, given what Kai and Irati have experienced so far.
