Firstly, apologies for the wide angle view. Turns out I only had my wide angle lens with me on the day I shot this video so I decided to roll with it 🤙🏼
Today I’m sharing some lessons I’ve learned when it comes to weight and real-world height of offroad tires. If you have comments or questions please hit me up below!

    I like how you list the tire height for the 37's with the weight of the vehicle on them, it's a big help. I have an 85 Chevy K20 6" lift with 35's on 16x10 Classic II's, and they measure almost 33" tall even on the truck. Been wanting to switch to a 37x12.50r17 but really want the smallest 37" tire I can get in a D or E load rating but not a cheap knock off brand.

    Of course this video comes out today, right after I bought 38in Patagonias, In part because of your videos about them, just last night. 😆 I was scared when I first saw the title that you were gonna say you were having problems with the Pats lol

  • @4XTRAIL

    @4XTRAIL

    2 жыл бұрын

    Dude you’ll love the Pats! Cool that you got 38s too. Just make sure you run them at a high enough psi. For 37s I think they recommend 36-38 which is quite a bit higher than you need for most larger tires. I ran mine too low for too long and ended up with uneven wear around 10k miles and they went downhill from there.

    @@4XTRAIL I agree. I have run two sets so far [37's] and the tire pressure for mine actually was a bit higher, about 45 for optimal wear patterns. I do drop them down however when off road for obvious reasons. Recommend a real good air pump capable of at least 5.60 cfm.

    We went with the 37" Yokohama Geolander X-ATs and they've been great tires through 10k miles. But we're going with the MTs next time. I originally thought the hybrid type tires would give us better performance in the rain around here, but so far it really hasn't been any better than MTs would be.

  • @4XTRAIL

    That’s good to know, thanks for sharing. The ATs should at least give you a little quieter ride. Even from new the Geolander MTs have a very slight hum to them.

    may I offer some online advice from an old wheeler of Jeeps and an owner of 3 sets of G003 Yokahama ? At 01:17 minutes, you even see what I am about to mention. You , Caleb, would benefit greatly from using your entire Geolander tire if you would air down to 15PSI. You bounced into frame on far too inflated of that size tire for your weight Jeep. The ttreadblocks on the sidewall should be against the surface of the rocks or at least blorping over . I run 37" G003 on non beadlocks similar to yours on a four door and the bead holds down to 8psi. You can roll all day on 18psi and your ride wil be smoother and you'll not bounce along on little bunny trail rocks like that. Take it for what it's worth; internet advice. But, what do you lose by trying it to seeif I am on the level or not. Those tires can fold over on themselves and ooze you up rocks. if you let them

    great vid. such a difficult topic to cover. Tire size has so many variables when measured, but companies are clearly not making rated tire sizes. BFG is the worst offender and always one of the most expensive. I really would like a 35" K02, but I'd end up with a 33.5" or less tire.

    I researched tire size for my upgrade- and I came up with 35" Dia and the KO2s were in my sights. But I just let the shop that put my lift together determine the best cost effective tires. I was surprised they were the thirty sevens. And I ran them until it was time to bting the truck in for the suspension to be retorqued. There was no need for regearing (as I heard would be needed) and the gas milage was hovering over 20 mpg!!! Curious, I measured them when I got home and they are 35.5 Dia. More curious still, I put the tuner on the Jeep to find the shop programmed it for a 37" Dia. I put in the 35.5 and suddenly my mph was more accurate, as was my MPG, about 16.5 mpg. But a great tire that does all I ask of it, and not needing to regear (not yet anyhow) is a winner I'm my book- even if the price per inch ratio is a little high...

    Let some air out of the tires and they'll be even shorter than their advertised/sidewall height. You shouldn't measure tires with weight on them. They aren't loosing circumference just because they have weight on them. Measure them off the vehicle or from front to back.

They also measured out at 35 and a half, not 37 in tall. Was real disappointed about that, but when you spend that kinda $ you run them all out be4 replacing them.
