Thanks for your video, I am Malagasy but never been to Nosy be so I enjoyed the video so much, the name of the small stones are "gravillons" in French they are for use to make concrete, I like when foreigners are investing and enjoying living in the country, Malagasy people are very welcoming so everyone is welcome to live and enjoy life there

Hi Randy, Nosy Be is fantastic the prices are about 50% more than in say Toliara but the Malagasy can make a very nice income so its not so bad. I've been living with just the Malagasy for so long I forgot what gravillons or gravel in English was called lol Your right the Malagasy are very welcoming

The lady is a high up governor in Diego swarez the guy she's poking is a policeman I thought it would make a good picture for the video. Not so sure what he did to her but she demands respect in Madagascar I have a video of her on my channel she is also a singer you can find it on my Samaro music festival videos from last month.

How long did it take you to become conversant in Malagasy? When I was there in 2015 I managed to pick up a few phrases, but it's a difficult language to learn because the written language doesn't resemble the spoken language much. I think the bloke who first put the language to the Roman alphabet had a few too many THB's whilst he was doing it.

It's funny that you say especially that @janellek21 - while it's true, English is easily in the top three languages on the planet with the least logic between spoken and written (look up "ghoti" if you don't know already). The language has evolved over time, and as @passivenomads says, the dialects differ largely from each other, the written form being the representation of the (original) central highlands dialect. Concerning French, it depends on what you understand by "to converse". ;-) Many just have got basic knowledge and the pronunciation can be hard to understand, some adaptation becoming necessary. A curious thing I haven't found an explanation for yet is that many confound the two basic verbs "to be" and "to have" in French. In public schools (upper section aiming at the a-levels) you might sit in a class of 80, plus there's the French school system in place where foreign language teaching is mainly written...
