It didn't show the monster in the trailer. Trailers need to stop giving away the money shot. Thank goodness. Also, I didn't know who this director was but I do now. Every movie of his that I've seen have been amazing. This seems to be perfect for him. The Lighthouse, the Witch, and the Northman are all solid. They need to remake Freak Show next. Classic cinema is full of great horror movies that could use an update. Horror movies don't have to be lowbrow Blumhouse nonsense. Horror movies can be classy. Let's do it.

The top cast isn't some female dominated, inorganic diversity workshop. Sadly, that's where my benchmark has been forced and it hasn't failed me the last 7 years. That's enough for me to want to see this.

@@lighthousefilms5530 Oh, that above all. I love this kind of film. But the fact it isn't chiefly some DEI promotional vehicle indicates they prioritized making a good film. Several times I got fooled by the trappings of genres I like just to find out they were just diversity goofs for the creators (i.e. almost all Netflix/Amazon originals). Their intention was to showcase that and not make a good film. The last 7 years have unfortunately made female and minority profiling part of my movie choosing process. I didn't say that fact makes me happy. It just makes it easier. If I miss one Furiosa by skipping 10 Atlases, so be it.

@jimjam51075 I see what you mean, I get that. But honestly I think an Eggers film is usually a safe bet. He's definitely left-wing, but it doesn't seem to creep into his work. The last good Vampire movie that I saw was Priest, so that was a while back. I think this movie will do very well. It's so good to see a Vampire movie where the Vampire is supposed to be a creature of horror rather than a Supermodel that models for Kalvin Klein with barely noticeable fangs. That's why most storytelling involving Vampires is so bad because Hollywood just wants to copy Anne Rice and write Softcore Porn with Sexy Vampires it its never scary and they never really think creatively about the fables of the undead monster because there are a lot of creepy and horrifying things you can do with these Undead creatures. For example, there is a book series called Necrocope, they were written by a guy named Brian Lumley, and the Vampires he wrote were some of the scariest creatures ever in literature. They were like a combination of Bram Stoker meets HP Lovecraft. I hope this movie makes a turn in horror that people want gothic horror monsters to be scary again.

Shame on you! Bram Stoker did not write Nosferatu. The movie was an acknowledged ripoff of Dracula! Stoker’s estate sued for copyright infringement, and won. The court ordered all copies of Nosferatu destroyed. Only one copy or so survived by accident and was rediscovered decades later. Otherwise we would’ve never heard of it. It’s like saying “Ice, Ice, Baby” was accurate to Bowie’s vision.
