I had a '67 Camaro in the 80's with an XCH 454 LS7 and a Ford toploader 4-speed. Sourced the engine from Joel Rosen at Motion Performance in NY. Car ran 11 flat @ 127mph on good street tyres. Outran everything on the street. Sweet memories

I bought one in 89 or 90 can't remember, did the old Lingenfelter trw l2349 stuck a comp 288ar in it, been running the hell out of it since, going through it now, and everything is still standard except its minus 1 thousand on rods all eight, they used to make fun of me for rigging a preoiler that puts 40 psi oil before starts, dry startup is bad ,been a great engine

@@johnandersonjjr I bought six of them in the crate from the early 70s to '80. #3965774. They were never assembled on the line like the LS-6. All were hand assembled from GM and sold because the EPA stepped in and said no to the LS-7 Vette. Supposed to be sold by parts over the counter. The first ones were fine. By '77, two had 427 cranks in them. By '80, the engine had a big split in the crank journal. All the crate engines like this had 3/8 pushrods instead of 7/16, wrong rod bolts, the wrist pins were pressed and not floated although the pistons had the grooves for the clips and enough junk of material all through the engine. After all the horror stories of crate engines blowing up, common sense was to take it apart, magnaflux everything and completely go through the engine. I made sure the Chevy dealers warrantied the correct parts because there was no warranty on the engine. I sent mine to Radar Racing Engines for a complete cleanup. Throw away the ZL-1 cam and don't fire this one up until you take it apart and check it all out. Trust me, been there, done it. Once completed, they engine was a killer with no NOS and a single carb.

@@ILoveLauriePartridge I’ve noticed for some reason the rocker arms are very loose on a few cylinders. Yes as I recall (I haven’t looked at it in a while on the crate it says “Brighton Michigan “ (I assume it was made there) I got the whole parts list with it

You need to pull the heads and check the pistons. The actual LS7 was never produced. As it was originally designed it would have had a compression ratio of 12.5 to 1 and full floating wrist pins with open chamber large port heads. It was meant to be an all-out competition engine. Since it was never produced, GM probably assigned an LS6 motor with aluminum heads for the LS7 designation. These aluminum heads were only ever produced in a closed chamber design just like the iron LS6 heads. The cylinder heads on an LS7 were an open chamber design and the Pistons had fairly large domes to get a 12.5 to 1 compression ratio. I may be wrong but this is what I remember reading in the early 1970s.

Hi. While the real LS7 was never offered in production vehicles etc, GM still made them as crate engines during the 70’s and early 80’s. This was a real GM LS7 crate engine with the LS7 codes and pistons etc. It was legit.

A guy in my area has a LS6 engine he bought in the late 90's. It has never been in a vehicle, never started. They want $5500 for it, does that sound like a fair price?

If I had that Engine I'd get some moisture desiccant spark plugs to put in it and I'd buy a plastic block off kit for all the openings like the exhaust ports the dizzy the thermostat and so on. But here's a much kooler suggestion put that Muther F'er ina Car and use it!!!! As kool as it is sitting there unused, I think that SUX!

This is how it was found. It survived perfectly fine as is with no rust inside cylinders or on cam or anything. Was kept oiled and rotated by original owner. You might think it’s best to plug everything but at the same time that can also make a engine not breathe. You simply just have to keep it covered and in a dry environment. It was covered for over 40 years as such.

Research bud. LS was used by GM since the 70’s. It’s not the modern day LS engine. Ever hear of a LS5 or LS6 1970 chevelle?

The LS3 and LS4 were 402 big blocks in the early 70's. LS5 was a 390 HP 454 and the LS6 was rated at 450 hp.
