1969 Chevy Z28 Camaro with an early GM Performance 454 LS7 Crate engine

We drive a 69 Chevy Camaro fitted with an early crate LS7 454 Factory GM Performance Big Block, backed by a manual trans.
At Master of Machines, we love cars, in fact, we love anything with wheels or an engine, from American Muscle Cars to Australian Muscle Cars, Race Cars and Classic Cars of all kinds and even Barn Finds. If it's fast, powerful, restored or hidden away in hibernation then we'll cover it, and in most cases, we'll even drive them!

Remember reading a magazine years ago, Corvette Stingray, with 454 LS7 and a supercharger, he said anytime any gear any where you could light the rear tires and SMOKE them! Like the blue and white paint job.

LS7 had 12.5:1 compression and make lots of power, nothing compared to todays big blocks . . A good 468 roller motor with alum heads and same compression is 675-700 hp...def the way to go

I have old mag dyno on over the counter LS7 at 580hp with headers. I've had some experience with that motor in a 69 Vette in early 70s, it ran 11.87 on cheater slicks & 410s. The car featured here sure doesn't sound like a real LS-7 does!!😄

I guess I'll have to call Dynacorn and get a '69 Camaro SS or Z28 shell and begin building my own LSX engine project and paint the Camaro BLACK. 😼🇺🇸🔧💸

As car guys we hear you Steve, this episode was originally for television and the networks push for some music in the mix. Please stay tuned and check out more of our episodes as there is plenty of raw and sweet engine noise within our content. Thanks for watching, we really appreciate it.

The LS7 was actually supposed to go into 1970 Corvettes because the top-dog car in the Chevy lineup was the LS6 Chevelle SS. I never quite found the answer why they didn't put the LS7 into the Vette (and ironically, when they did release the 454 Vette, it had 425 hp vs. the Chevelle's 450 hp), but there was an ad touting the available 460 hp Vette before the 1970s were released as a teaser. But, alas, it was not to be and the top-horsepower 454 Vettes had 425 hp.

I thought in 1970 that the top 454 horsepower rating was 390 horsepower in the Corvette. In 1971, Chevrolet put what they called a "LS6" engine in a Corvette and it was rated at 425 horsepower, the same engine as in the 1970 Chevelle, but, with a bit lower compression. I could be wrong that's just the information I found.

We prefer engine noise over music but some of these features are extracted from our TV episodes which required music thrown in the mix at the networks request.

I wonder if he kept the 12.25:1 compression ratio? If so,what gas is he running to prevent detonation.
