Norway Walks: Bakklandet, Trondheim - A Walk Through Trondheim Old Town

Welcome to Trondheim. Today’s Norway Walk takes us along the boardwalks and cobblestones of Bakklandet, a charming riverside neighbourhood in Trondheim, Norway. Read more: www.lifeinnorway.net/a-wander...
I filmed this walk at around 7pm on Easter Sunday, 2022. Enjoy the walk.
Known today for its timber homes, cafe culture and cyclists, its origins actually lie in trade and industry, home to seamen, fishermen and labourers.
As delightful as the street is today, it was very nearly bulldozed. In 1965 the city plan proposed the area be demolished and replaced with a 4-lane highway. Needless to say, local residents opposed the plan and after a fight that lasted almost 20 years, the area was saved.

Love this! My Grandfather grew up on Kristiansbakken 14 by the old fortress. Nice to be able to walk this route. Thank you.

Brings back great memories. For 4 days I'd walk down from the Youth Hostel in Roseburg and walk through the cobbled streets and over the Gamlebru to Nidaros. I was doing research on WWII at the Resistance Museum. I spent a total of 13 days in Trondheim, a lot of it around this part of the city.

It really isn't the old town though, even if it is markedet as such. The center is alot older. This is just the first suburb of the city. You'll find alot more old buildings in the heart of the city. I think non of these houses date back any further than the 1800ths, and the suburb it self is no older than late 1600ths. The center is from the viking-age. Very overrated part of town tbh.
