    Hello, Would you please explain this: *"The formula for a2 + b2 is a2 + b2 = (a + b)2 - 2ab, or a2 + b2 = (a - b)2 + 2ab. The formula for a2 - b2 is a2 - b2 = (a - b) (a + b). The a2 + b2 formula is used to find the sum of two or more squares in an expression. The a2 - b2 formula is often called the "difference of squares formula" and is used to factorize square binomials."* Thank you,

    @@peterbyrne6394 The perfect square: The formula for a²+b² is a²+b²=(a + b)²-2ab, or a²+b²=(a-b)²+2ab.

Seems like crazy math? Why not rewrite EQ 1 so that you can substitute into EQ 2. That will give you 2 answers for a & b. That and you know what a & b are. Just take them both to the 11th power and you get 30.9 too. Much easier. Maybe 1/5 of the math you did on the board.
