Northwest Passages 2016 Part I

In August 2016 the Stewart/Borosdy Adventure Team embarked on trip to explore the San Juan and Gulf Islands of the Pacific Northwest. Aboard Far C’r, our 22’ C-Dory, and Vega, Bernie and Marilyn’s 25’ C-Dory we spent a fantastic month enjoying the finest of weather. During this adventure I was able to use my cameras to time lapse the whole cruise. I hope the viewer enjoys the ride.
In Part 1 we leave Los Angeles towing Far C’r and travel through the state of California, Oregon, and Washington to arrive in Anacortes where we pick up Vega. Launching at Skyline Marina we spend the first night at Blind Bay on the North side of Shaw Island. The next morning the weather report is calling for strong winds and possible rain so we decide to head to Friday Harbor and wait on the weather for 2 nights. Since we plan to head for the Canadian Gulf Islands in a few days we then head of to Roche Harbor on our way to Stuart Island.

Wow! What a fantastic mini vacation from my recliner! :) Sure enjoyed watching your adventures and think I'll be looking to buy a C-Dory soon!

I like the C-Dory boats a lot, but to see the Radiant Star, well... wow. Just wow.

I remember when the trawler shown was brought over from Scotland! This, for me, is a real nice surprise! Looks like the refurbishment worked out well! Be nice to see close up of exterior /interior

Only thing I hate about the C-dory's is their head room. I'm 6'4" and the largest C-dory's only have 6'2" of head room. Wish they could make the cabins at least 7'. Very nice boats though.

I definitely misread the title. I thought that this boat was going to go through the Northwest Passage across the Canadian Arctic. Nice video but disappointing to me for not paying attention to the S on the end of the title.

I am curious about your boat ! I believe yours is the one with the single 80 HP that I got a quick look at . Do you feel that single 80 is enough power? Or would you do it different next time? Looks pretty much flat bottom boat but it looked like mostly flat water in that area , so did it preform well ? Im trying to decide on a purchase of the C-Dory but I live in Michigan and we dont have much protected water on the big lakes. Not much info to be found about the C-dory boats on line any more. Their web site seems sorely lacking. Just wondered how you like your boat? Thankyou! PDM.....

I re-powered with a 90, some people have 115 hp. To find out more about the boat and to ask questions take a look at www.c-brats.com There are many cdorys on the Great Lakes. Good luck in your search, cbrats are also a good resource to find a used cdory

Looks like you were in anacortes the same week we were on our r27. You must have passed it on the long dock in front of the large vessel. A blue r27 with no canvas over the cockpit. On your return trip, you mentioned the ranger flotilla going to roche harbor. We were in that group as well and must have passed each other again. Liked your videos

Very well done video and beautiful area!! The scene where the ferry is coming into the dock in the fog was incredible!! Love your boats also. My wife and I have been looking for a trailerable cruiser, and are trying to decide between the C-dory 22 or 25.... Any reasons you could offer for either?? Thank you again, your video sure looked like a great time!

Thanks! Pros and cons to each boat, the 25 has a head but needs a fairly sturdy tow vehicle. The 22 is easier to trailer but doesn't have all the amenities. Have you checked out www.cbrats.com ? There is a huge compilation of information on the C-Dory boats there. Good luck on your future adventures!

Thank you. I am on the Cbrats site, and have found a lot of helpful information there. I check often for a C-dory in my area for sale-Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Haven’t seen any for sale within 1000 miles.... Hoping I get to see one in person also, it will help make up my mind.. I am sure that I would rather trailer the 22...

Do you get beat up in the Dory? We are very seriously looking at a 25 or a Rosborough 246.

We have been happy with the 22 in all types of weather and with it's ease of towing. However, moving up to a 25 does bag you a enclosed head! I've heard the Rosborough is a great boat as well

@@FloydStewart Hi Floyd, thanks for the reply. We are part time on Friday Harbor as of now and have looked at the Dory 25 and love it. We're really leaning that way. I'd love to chat with folks that have taken their Dory's up the inside passage as that's our goal as well. We are planning on chartering a 25 with Desolations Sound yacht Charters hopefully this year. I don't need a go fast boat, we want to enjoy the scenery but be safe of course. Which a lot rides on us and some on the boat..haha. I'd just like to see one handling rougher water to to see it. I guess we need a sea trial and the charter. Thanks for posting your great adventures:-) Kirk

    So you mean Inside Passage?

I can see the confusion, but the title to me just means screwing around with my boat in the North West part of the US. I haven't been up the Inside Passage yet but plan to do so in the future.
