Northstar Games: Oathmark Dwarf Infantry unboxed!

Ойындар

After thoroughly checking that all parts of the video worked correctly this time, I figured it's time to check out some more Oathmark models.
I had some goblins before, but wasn't really impressed. They were more LOTR style goblins, whereas I wanted Kev Adams style gobbos.
But dwarfs? Heck, I'll take dwarfs of just about any shape and size. Which is weird as I'm not a big fan of dwarfs! But I'll buy 'em, paint 'em, and enjoy 'em... so maybe I do like dwarf models?
These dwarfs are very Tolkein- esque in their looks. Rather than say they're generic, I'd say they have a very universal style to them. You could see them across a variety of fantasy style games.
I love how the Oathmark boxes give you a nice core of an army in one box. You have three main options- ranged, spears, or close quarters weapons. There's a good variety of heads available (and even more if you have the heavy dwarf infantry box) and with a little bit of conversion work, you could totally make these work with Frostgrave parts.
That's probably my favorite aspect- the ease of conversion. The whole Frostgrave range can be used to compliment them or swap out parts, and with a bit of creativity you could probably use a fair amount of GW and Mantic bits.
Speaking of Mantic dwarf, these guys are perfect for Kings of War! Plus they're pretty close in size and stature to the Mantic models- except they're much nicer looking! Mantic's basic dwarf infantry is getting a bit long in the tooth, and seeing how nice they're Abbysal Dwarf sprue came out...

    So I just started with the hobby a little while ago and I was super overwhelmed by the sheer amount of wargames out there. But in the end I went with frostgrave as I love the overall vibe. Now these would make a great "Hobbit Style" warband for Frostgrave with a wizard, a halfling and a bunch of individualized dwarfs. Also I love how economical Northstar is. I mean their miniatures work for Oathmark, Frostgrave, Rangers of Shadowdeep and also stuff like OPR Fantasy, even Kings of War and stuff like that. On top of that they can be pretty easily be kitbashed with stuff from Wargames Atlantic and Fireforge Miniatures as well.

    The basic infantry shields are all the same. Human infantry were the same. One design for the whole army. The heavy dwarf infantry shields are different though (they also don't have missile weapons so there's more sprue space for fancier gear). Goblins had some variants as well. Not to say you couldn't swap out everyone's shields and put something completely different too!

    I'll review whatever I can get my hands on. Northstar's kits were always a bit difficult to get in my part of SoCal. eBay seems to be the best solution. I do have a box worth of humans as well as the heavy dwarfs, and I'll certainly grab the wolf riding goblins when they're released. The new elves look like they'd make a lot of good conversion potential...

    I'd say it's going to depend a lot on how you base them, but that's just me going off the top of my head. I've got both types of figures handy so I'll try to post of a photo of them on Instagram later this week. Keep your eyes peeled!

    I think that the biggest size difference with the GW dwarves lies in the smaller hands, feet and heads. I think I will buy some and replace them with the bits I have already.

    How do these dwarves compare in size to Wargames Atlantic's Einherjar or Reaper Miniature's various dwarf miniatures?

  • @ObscuritiesinMiniature

    @ObscuritiesinMiniature

    10 ай бұрын

    Surprisingly, I have yet to build any of the Einherjar. I've got a few sprues of them in a box somewhere... I guess I'm going to have to find out myself! In regards to Reaper... I'm going to say it depends on how old the sculpts are. These guys feel much smaller than a lot of the other dwarf models out there. They're scaled with the other Northstar plastics, which tend to be closer in scale to historical kits than a lot of the other high fantasy plastics out there, especially GW.

    @@ObscuritiesinMiniature If they are closer in scale to historical kits, then they will be perfect for me, since I tend to collect miniatures of the historical variety (medieval specifically) for my fantasy miniature needs.
