    I think the most telling reason is he plays what he wants. He’s a variety channel, but doesn’t blindly ride trends like among us or fortnite if he doesn’t like it. And people watch him for the personality, not the game, more than other creators

    anyone who ever tried being a youtuber or streamer and entertain an audience know how ridiculously unreachable it is to be as consistently witty and ingenious with your commentary like nl he is far from "just a guy"

  • @IktaSol

    @IktaSol

    He is a not an extraordinary guy personality wise or gaming ability wise, but has amazing ability to tell a story and be entertaining in any situation. If you watch streams you'll notice most streamer has a hard time just keep talking and engaging with the audience, so there are many dead spots in the stream, or they fallback to react content so that the content they react to can entertain the viewers. NL can make a 5 hour stream feel effortlessly quick because there's always something to be entertained with.

    He has very quick but not overbearing wit, aware of his own flaws, entertaining, and honest. Always speaks true to himself and his opinions no matter how much cyber bullying he gets. He plays games his own special way that always gets a lot of ‘?’s, but his style of gameplay and decision making is undeniably and authentically his, the “Northernlion touch”.

    NL is honestly like one of the actual GOATs, been watching this dude since his super meat boy videos back god knows when, must have been over a decade. I really think he's been one of the biggest influences on my sense of humor and speaking style, more than even anyone I know irl. The man's just been living in his niche putting out content for as long as I can remember, he exists in his own world within streaming. And I still watch him all the time even after all this time, though high school, through college, after getting a job and moving abroad, and still find him just as entertaining as ever whereas pretty much every other youtuber I watched back in high school I moved on from ages ago.

  • @0Rookie0
    @0Rookie0 Жыл бұрын

    As an almost decade long NL viewer I will always continue to believe, NL doesn't chase trends or start drama, and because of that his viewers and community are the most loyal. And I'm glad he sees that and is now comfortable enough to call out people who are usually given a free pass in chatting online. He's outlived and brushed off haters over the years and lived to tell the tale. The man is level headed and always ready to step on toes for the sake of keeping everyone comfortable. It's actually weird to see him evolve over the years because you don't realize it until you look back at older videos. He worked hard (as much as the joke is playing video games isn't hard) for the stability in his career. Always making sure to show what he's about and keeping the channel wholesome. Not to mention the absolute grind that is KZread and Twitch together. Especially before his twitch renaissance with Luna being born. The man has spoken more words to me than probably my whole family put together. And my family is fairly normal in that regard. This dude is my Netflix/Hulu/whatever and I've watched from beyond the glowing box since he was in Korea. And I'll continue to until he finally retires from being an online celebrity. A moral compass of a saint (unless you reheat your fridge sandwiches under your arm, then get ready) and an anecdote king. Return the slab baby. Ryab's here to stay. 11 out of 10 parasocial relationship, would subscribe again. From, before I could drive chilling at home after school, to now eating dinner with the s/o after work, NL is still providing bangers in video form. What a legend.

    fr like over half my steam library is literally games I bought because of NL over the last decade. He has literally made multiple games successful just by finding them in steam new releases and playing them. I think he has a way of playing games just inefficiently enough that he still makes the game look fun but you watch him dig like a maniac in dome keeper or ignore some mechanic in a rougelite because he doesn't read and your OCD kicks in and you just want to do it yourself right. And like after watching him for so long I know his taste and I know it matches my taste, so if he likes it I know I'll probably like it. I trust him more than any game review at this point.

    I started watching vanilla BoI many years ago with NL, and multiple times have gone on and off from watching. He just keeps getting better, playing weird browser cooking games, delivering the sanest takes and best off the cuff jokes, all while promoting good character, which can sometimes be lacking on Twitch/YT . Especially with the dad and family takes, which can do great things for the younger watchers I think. He developed his viewership in a special period, growing with the popularity of YT/Twitch, which makes me think he's the result of a golden era in all this. Maybe there won't ever be another NL. I wish him all the best and success, but at the same time I do like that he's a bit of a "sleeper hit". Idk what the community would look like with 30k viewers, but I can imagine it causes more stress for the streamer in many ways. Either way, if I stop watching again, I hope I can come back and watch NL again, many years from now.

    I wish NL could get over his social closedness (funny for me to say, I'm worse) and be more open to reaching out sometimes to do even if it's just one offs with different people and spread around more. It would help him grow quite a bit I feel and there's so many different people that like him that I feel would be willing to do collabs sometimes even if he doesn't rival their sub count just because he seems to be a really well liked guy beyond what his 1m sub count says. (His Twitch viewers are really high for average on Twitch which might help that too)

    NL is so great because he's just a guy playing video games and making jokes (sometimes with his friends). The last thing I would want is for him to be part of a toxic community of drama, political and hypocritical streamers like the Poggers community.

    I got into NL through TotalBiscuit. Who was, and still is, the industry standard for being outspoken and holding up to a moral code. Despite having been dead for years now. Having said that, NorthernLion is a great dude as well. Funny, articulate, quick on his feet and all that. Probably my favorite streamer, though I don't always find the stuff he streams interesting enough to watch.
