I'm a big old nerd for this, but nl talks about how people don't have a sudden moment of clarity as they die, and George Saunders has a short story related to this concept called The End of Firpo in The World. I highly recommend the story, it illustrates the idea that nl describes in a way that only a story can but I warn you it is extremely sad. I will now summarize the story below. Beware of spoilers. A cognitively impaired child is abused and belittled by those closest to them before getting hit by a car. The driver rushes out of the car and tries to comfort the child telling them that they are beautiful and that God loves them. The dying child is annoyed by the kind words that the man is saying because the child does not believe them, and thinks the man must be an imbecile to say such things. While the story may sound like a slog in the way I described it, it is written entirely from the inner monologue of the child, which makes each page far more interesting to read

Personally, I'd start with a more recent arc first, like 2020 pre-baby, but you can't go wrong with his older content. I'm just not sure if it hits different if you don't have nostalgia for the references.

For some reason my brain is wired that any mention of a vtuber activates my neurons. Vtubers and flesh people are usually separate so any acknowledgement feels like a universe crossover. It works the otherway too (When Fauna mentions NL for example). Its a bit strange to be honest, but I enjoy it so I'm not going to try and overthink this.

I like playing around with AI art. The quality is noticeably worse than paying an artist for commissions (which I've done), and you lose out on the really cool styles many artists have developed honing their craft; but I'm a poor student and I like being able to make portraits for NPC's for the campaigns I DM, and build cool fantasy cities I can show my players. I also clean up the art afterwards in photoshop, which is at least half the fun. Edit: That ponytail guy goes hard, good on him

Yeah, I agree with the anti-AI stance when it comes to any commercial applications that put creatives out of their jobs. But how does making memes or "dragon holding sword" for fun impact those creatives negatively? I never would've hired anyone for that anyway because I frankly don't have that kind of disposable income. It sucks that people are unable to separate the cool technology/using AI for entertainment or personal productivity from all the grifters exclusively trying to use it to make bank

It's not just about commercial vs personal use it's also just how the tech is built, I would be more okay with the use of AI Image generators if the datasets were ethically sourced with consent from the people it takes from and was built on public domain works from the very start. But the people that made the most popular stuff just don't care about artists and their rights to their own work. Not to mention there has been cp and private medical photos found in one of the biggest datasets used for training data.

It‘s weird. I’m sure at least 95% who use +2 and -2 don’t know what it means either. I can’t really explain it all that well, but I’m certainly gonna try. I believe it’s from a Jerma stream. He was playing a game that had Twitch integration. (Or now that I’m thinking about it, it might’ve been something akin to a subathon? No clue tbh) There was a timer, and chat could either remove or add two minutes to that timer by typing +2 or -2. At some point, the stream turned into him just telling random jokes and hoping chat would +2 it. People started using it outside of that stream, and that’s how we got here

@@KeDe1606 He was playing an old coop shooter game with ster, they had an hour to beat the game, but for every bad joke they lost 2 min and for every good joke they gained 2 min. The chat decided whether it was a good or a bad joke by typing +2 or -2. I don't believe it was twitch integrated, just a impromptu sorta thing where they manually edited the time.
