It developed from the British mod scene, based on a particular style of Black American soul music with a heavy beat and fast tempo. No copyright infringement intended. some of the music on here are not song by the original artist, northern soul was a term not used until the late 60 early 70 , the soul sound was played in the twisted wheel in the mid 60 in the day of the mods

I see some people don't like seeing normal working people enjoying themselves and they complain about the Jocelyn Brown song not being Northern Soul. Sorry ..but I am 76 and live down south ..and don't pretend to know everything about Northern Soul. ..but still love the Northern Soul scene and I just added Jocelyn Brown song because I think it would have gone down well on the dancefloors. That's my excuse ..and I'm sticking to it !! 🙂

Don't forget these people are not teenagers anymore the age will range from 50-70+ I was going to the casino when I was 18 I'm 66 now and can't do the splits like I used to but still love the music

@@relaxationmusic6850 not sure about 50s think Wigan casino ended long before people now in their 50s were teenagers I was too young at 13 to go to Wigan and by the time I was 16 it was all over 1978 to 1981

@michelles2299 Wigan casino closed 5th September 1981. I used to go 78 and 79, then I married so we went out with the inlaws at weekend, so I couldn't take them, they wouldn't last the night lol!

Utter crap, there's no individualistic interpretation of the music, these people should be line or pogo dancing, as for dancing classes to so called " northern soul" ! I didn't need it or talc ugh ! back in the original era in the 60ts nor did others, this over commercialism will be a short lived fad because the vast majority of the people nowadays have no passionate connection to the music, places and times when this music I love happened in its original era . The true music will be left to the real lovers of Soul Music.
