Used to rent this from my local video store as a kid in the 90s. It’s held up shockingly well. Pike are still my favorite fish, and inspire awe to this day.

Awesome video ! After you catch a Pike, you won’t want to catch any other freshwater fish (except maybe a musky, lol) The northern pike reminds me of a ‘freshwater barracuda” this is a great fishing show, and always entertaining and educational as well..The in- fisherman TV guys are some of the people that inspired me to start my own channel and although I am low on subscribers You guys have motivated me to create more videos and Not give up, thanks again tight lines from Captain Walt

What a blast from the past! Thank you! I honestly probably watched this tape 100 times before my trip to Canada to chase giant pike when I was 14. And I got one! She was 43" and caught on a tandem Mepps Giant Killer in white/silver casting into cabbage beds.

Sad he mentions Mormon lake/resivior Arizona , I was in Flagstaff AZ camping about a year ago (2021) and it's completely gone bone dry dirt, still shows up as a lake on a map and that's why I drove there but it's hard to even imagine a 20lb fish ever once lived there, let alone enough worth mentioning , theirs not even a drop of water as of present day, you can clearly see by Google maps/satellite imaging

I caught my first pike while trout fishing on a really light set up. It was the most insane fight I ever had on a lake. Felt like I was pulling in a big salmon. They are invasive where I live so it's actually a mandatory keeper that was a great day. Man I just love these old fishin videos. Reminds me of my childhood.

try using 4 to 8 lb monofilament line. Hooking pike is only part of the fun if you have any brains in your head and sense of sportsmanship. Hook a big pike and know that you only have 6 lb line, you can't just winch him in. I have caught up to 7.5lb pike on 4 lb line in my little pond spot that is right next to the river that flows through town, and also a 12 lb pike on 6 lb line. That one was a lot of fun, featuring an 8 minute fight in the confines of the pond before he started to get ahead of me and got into the current and ran me out of line..... After a few seconds of the nauseaus feeling that this one was destined to get away, I saw him come to the surface and his tail gave a slap, he was out of gas for the moment...... So I tightened the drag and pulled in with the rod then reeling in the slack, and so on for another minute until he was back in the pond and I could ease the drag back in case in a burst of energy he would simply snap the line. He did indeed get a second wind and we fought for another 5 minutes before I was able to get him close enough to the shore to reach down and grab him by the scruff of the neck, weigh him, take his photo, give him a tummy rub and a pat on the head and set him back in the water. My forearms were quite tired and I was a bit overheated so I zipped down my winter jacket (it was about -7C), but it had been an exhilarating experience, one I likely would not have had if I had 25lb braided line. The fishie was a bit tired, too, for he just treaded water in a foot of water at my feet, until he gave a few relaxed sweeps of his tail and disappeared from view.

Dude. That's the legimate epitome of wrong gear. You're doing it for a fight & the fish are getting away with your hooks or 300ft of line, as you described hahaha. Use braided line. Can get more on the reel too.
