Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Awesome papillose lips! This ID guide for the northern hog sucker (Hypentelium nigricans) will provide an approximate range map and all the features you need to look at on this fish. I'll also provide some ways you can tell this species apart from the very similar Alabama hog sucker (Hypentelium etowanum) and Roanoke hog sucker (Hypentelium roanokense).

I caught one! Posted it on Fishing Spots App Smallest hook, ultralight rod and line, tiny piece of worm on the bottom...plop it in and hope...they push and turn over stones to find snails and grubs....it takes extreme luck Also a good tactic for these is to wait for a dry spell, then walk down the river bank and watch for them near shore. They will swim right up to you...within feet. I dont think they can see very well. (posted on I- naturalist)

Your eyes must be amazing! Even with the camera pointed right at him, it took me a while to see him! Is this the sort of fish the would be caught with a rod & reel? The lips don’t seem designed to bite anything. Also, does this fish eat bugs? Can’t quite envision that, either.

Microfishers (people using itty-bitty hooks) will often catch this species but it's more often caught by net or trap. And yes, the fish will eat insects, mostly the larval forms of aquatic insects.
