"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine into trees." ~ John Muir Very inspiring documentary on your wonderful backpack adventure way back in 2020, hiking and climbing deep into the Sierra Nevada range. A must watch for all Sierra backpackers.

Beautiful filming! I filmed my South Lake/North Lake Loop with my old iPhone and it's just awful. Your photography is so lovely to watch. Awesome job on the hike too! Thank you for sharing it.

@@smoro Thanks! We're starting at Florence Lake and taking a short side trip to Darwin Bench, so ours will be 46 miles. I'm totally impressed with your extra length and elevation gain!

For those of you wanting a different route try starting on the west side at Florence Lake. If the ferry is open you can skip the firs 4 miles. It's mostly flat until you get to the JMT junction. You still have two passes to go over but you'll be acclimated by then.

The drawback from leaving from Florence is that the road to Florence is on the west side of the Sierra, and the South/North lake road is on the East side of the Sierra. It's a significant drive over the Sierra, as there is no direct road over from Bishop - it's either south to Tehachapi, or north to Sonora Pass - Florence and the Eastside are many hours apart. Just saying (I live in Bishop)

Now that's how I want to do it: Reasonable days and taking time to explore and enjoy. Not trying to push out 10-15 mile days. I want to go with you two. Where we going to next summer? 🤣

It looks like you were fortunately only caught in the rain in the last day of the trip although I see the clouds in the video many times.

Yep! Only rained the last night. That was actually the night that started the big fires that year.

Great video! I just got a permit same course. Thanks for the great advice to leave the backpack at North Lake, drive to South lake and use Shuttle! This really makes sense!!! Any good space to leave the backpack safely at North Lake trailhead? Thank you!

From what I've read, the shuttle will not take you up to North Lake due to the narrow road. It'll drop you off at the junction with Hwy 168 and North Lake Road. From there it's 2 miles to the trailhead. When my parents were alive they would drop me off at one trailhead and pick me up later at my destination on the date I would exit.

Yep. Shuttle drops you off at the bottom of the hill. If you’re adventurous and look super tired like I did, some nice person may give you a ride up (lots of cars going up in the morning). At the top by the trailhead is a campground. Although I think your pack would be safe, best to leave a person with it if you can. Or you can always hide it in the woods like I’ve done before.

Just did this trail out last night some couple decided to make camp about 20 yards maybe less from us on a good size lake that had plenty of other areas. They didn’t even come over and introduce themselves just were right there like idiots. I understand it’s peak time just seemed very weird mainly because they didn’t say hi and just have outdoor courtesy probably from LA and libtards
