This is how Wisconsin ought to have been playing all year but just couldn't ever really put it all together. They'll need it against Baylor for sure, but they've now shown they CAN do it.

IDK about all that..this seems more like them playing above themselves than them playing "like they should have been"..IJS..there was a reason why they struggled against the better teams in the BIG and it wasnt because they werent living up to their potential..they have a shot against Baylor, in the NCAA no one is a lock..but dont look for Baylor to have the same defensive lapse and Baylor has much better guard play then UNC

@@MST3Killa they were only 21-10 in the 2019-2020 season..not exactly a sign of bigger things to come...they've only played 2 less games from last season;;that 21 win team was probably the ceiling for their talent level and abilities..not saying they cant go on a run, but it wont be because they were underseeded or are finally playing to their potential..keeping ahold of leads is what the good teams do..if they werent able to do that, then thats a sign

This is much closer to how they should have been playing this year given their experience and not losing anyone but they rarely did, so they underperformed quite a bit. Sorry if that doesn't conform to your perception, but it's simple truth.

@@MST3Killa to be technical, they SHARED the title with 2 other teams..so it wasnt like they won it outright..and they still lost 10 games..the problem is you want to believe they are capable of being a great team and you cant accept the idea that they just dont have the abilities to play consistent..IDC how good they looked THIS game..they still lost 12 games and couldnt beat the better BIG teams...being consistent is a sign of being good..any average team can look good for a game or 2...

@@power2491 UNC has been a middle of the ACC type of team since that 2017 title..you'd think that with them being able to recruit the top kids again because the NCAA investigation is concluded that they'd be like they were early in Roys UNC career..his early teams were loaded with NBA talent

This will be a dangerous game for Baylor who did not look that good yesterday versus Hartford. They were not in sync, not good team basketball, a lot of bickering and you could tell the coaches were frustrated. The 8/9 seed usually wins this game around 15% of the time, so it's often a good bet when 90 to 95% of the people in your bracket pool are just picking the number one seed.

Thank God i choose Wisconsin over Tarheels, I was confused in this one

only reason i bet badgers was cause i’m a wisconsin fan... we limped into the tourney and we’re the better team when playing well but hadn’t been playing well at all so that wasn’t that bad of a pick.. idk ab going deep tho bc there was 0 chance they could’ve beat baylor

Hats off to Wisconsin tonight from a UNC fan. They had very experienced team and we have what we have. The freshmen will hopefully get better. The recruiting under roy needs to change. We need a stretch 4 and a shooters It was predictable how teams play us... P&R switch the matchup have an advantage. Double team the post and make us shoot the ball. He has to starting recruiting pure shooters and stretch 4s now. The nba game has involved into a 3 pt game with P&R play.

And you need to hold out hope the majority of those same freshman return! Also because it's not a guarantee Roy will be around that much longer! His age coupled with his occasional bouts with vertigo (his health is as important as his future)! And with Brooks graduating, Roy needs a solid base back! I don't see Bacot returning, but maybe everyone else

@@bradlewis6514 agreed some though just aren't good enough to play at that level yet. And if they do leave they wont get great feedback from GMs or scouts. I would like to see a successor be named in the next few years so that person can build a team his way. Brooks underperformed this year. He only had one noticeable game vs Dook in chapel hill. Platek was waste of a scholarship and Leaky black needs to clog those holes in his game.

Your right Drisq when it comes to the NBA but it hasn't been an evolvement! It's been that way for the last 15-20 years! Offense and point production that has eaten away at the fabric of basketball fundamentals! It's why one and dones are one and dones! They figure with how the NBA is predicated, they only need to hone their offensive skill set! Defense at the college level doesn't get stressed enough because of it! And so guys don't guard! It's why LeBron has been as successful as he is during his career

@@bradlewis6514 agree the level at which defense is taught is poor especially at UNC. My whole point from this upset ramble is that for the past 4 years the recruitment has been poor. The system would be great with stretch 4 and wing shooter/wind defending.

The last two seasons have been bad but Roy has always had solid 3 point shooters. 2018-2019 Kenny Williams, Luke Maye, Brandon Robinson all shot close to 4O% from three. Coby White was the worst of them and he made 35%. And of course Cam Johnson was deadly but he was a transfer so he probably doesn’t factor in your assessment of Roy’s recruitment. Yes Platek and Black didn’t pan out as reliable shooters but both came in with the ability to hit the three.

Don’t think Jordan shed a tear about this mediocre team losing a first round game. Any UNC fan knew that even winning one game in the tournament this year would have been great. This team was inexperienced and had terrible guard play for most of the year. There were a few good spots there (Love against Duke), but most were few and far between. The expectations were not that high.

I went back and checked and sure enough since 85 when they expanded to 64, at least 1 of those schools has been in round of 32 every year, probably sweet 16 too but that's for another day's research lol

Yes they were.The Tar Heels were beat buy a bunch of 3s about 3 years ago in the 2nd or 3rd round.I think that team hit about 18 threes.It was nasty.

Coming from a unc fan Wisconsin just wanted it more than we did. I really hope they beat Baylor

One of the most disappointing big men i can remember under Roy

UNC is very young in the backcourt. Love will be 20 this year. On the other hand, Trice (Wisconsin) will be 25!! That’s a big difference. Experience beat talent.

we found a rhythm offensively early in the second half but the defending was horrendous throughout. too many easy baskets inside and never seemed to close out well on the perimeter. great game by wisconsin though, really impressive shooting. i expect them to give baylor a run for their money

Even though I'm upset that North Carolina lost, I give Wisconsin credit for what they did to my Tarheels.

Wisconsin looked fantactic.You gave Roy his very 1st loss in a 1st round!

This was the only thing I was happy about yesterday in march madness. This is because I went 7/16 for picks, but I am happy I picked the Badgers since they are my favorite college basketball team.

It’s always awesome whenever my second most hated team in college hoops (behind Kentucky) lose especially by double digits, awesome performance by those Badgers

Wisconsin a very good team when they are hitting their shots. They just played in an extremely talented conference.. They will give Baylor all they can handle if they are on their game. But Wisconsin has to be "on" their game to have a chance.

Unfortunate way for Williams to go out, but maybe losing for the first time ever in the first round (and getting massacred no less) was a sign that it was time to hang it up. He seemed really tired and worn out the last couple of seasons anyway.

9 top 10 losses will do it you. Reality is they had only one loss all year not top 25. They were a very tough first round matchup for whoever had them because they were going to be a 8 or 9 but could have been a 6. Don’t forget they were top ten team the first 10 weeks of the year. And top 25 almost all year.

Bad half court defense cost North Carolina last night.

It can be sick watching a team that always seems to play with such little sense of urgency. As a UNC fan, I’ve grown accustomed to Roy Williams coached teams struggling unless they have experienced 5 star players at every position. Every team went through COVID. This team really underperformed.

UNC just needs another shooter. Hope everyone comes back. Hopefully, Sterling Manley returns next season.

It was from the three immediately before, the scoreboard person had mistakenly counted it as a 2 pointer and that was them correcting it

One and done! UNC lack intensity killed them it was like they gave up, they didn't want to be there, i blame that on coaching ,you got to have your players ready to go no matter what! I believe love and bacot will stay. Love didn’t do play very well all year and likely to not get drafted. Black was okay at times but didn’t really bring too much to the team with his lack of offense and inconsistency. Hopefully sharpe stays, I like the way he plays. Will miss brooks for sure

Coming from a student at Wisconsin, you're probably right. But Baylor is top 2 in the country IMO. If Wisconsin plays at their absolute best I think it could be very close.

Wisconsin is a better team all around... they played like that in the beginning of the year and then couldn’t get out of their own way the rest of the season. Looks like they’re back to being Wisconsin.

is it just me, or does it seem like Roy has lost his coaching touch these last 2-3 years? ever since that last title they have been a middle of the pack ACC team even though they've been able to recruit the higher rated kids because the NCAA investigation case on them wrapped up..this UNC team had no business losing to Wisc like they did..WISC isnt that much better than UNC was, yet UNC had way better talent

Why is everybody so surprised by ohio state losing, like that you acting like Ohio state was 24-2 or something. Ohio State was 21-10 on the season entering the tournament. Any of the year Ohio state would've been a 7 seed with that many loses instead of a two seed.

we'll probably lose to Baylor but oh well at least we got this far...just not a team built to win a title- money rules in the NCAA for both football AND B-ball- follow the money to see who wins the most titles

@@jojo-cp5ck I’m just messing with you here no offense intended. Interesting considering nearly every talking head who spewed an opinion about the game said Wisconsin had no chance because Wisconsin has no bigs and NC has many bigs to throw at them and almost universally used your word manhandled. I’m not sure how an anachronistic collection of big men including 2 McDonalds All Americans gets manhandled by 5, 3 star small forwards and a bench that’s only 3 deep. But OK if you say so. Don’t worry Baylor will do to Wisconsin what everyone thought Carolina would do to them so take solace in that.
