    Exactly how do the Palestinians not have equal rights? As far as I am aware, a citizen of a state is not entitled to the rights afforded by another state. Within the state of Israel, all peoples have equal rights. Regarding freedom of movement, I see this claim repeated often but it is not customary for a state to allow freedom of entry to foreign nationals. I'm mainly speaking about Gaza before the war because the status quo in the West Bank is not right and all Israeli settlers should move to the main Israeli territory.

    Why are people being so stubborn about the ”from the river to the sea…” slogan? I have heard Finkelstein argue against the use of it multiple times, for example in his discussion with BJG, and I find his argument very simple and persuasive. People, please respect the professor’s experience in activism and learn to think strategically! If the goal is to prevent deaths we should not dismiss criticism so lightly.

  • @SuperKripke

    @SuperKripke

    Ай бұрын

    From the river to the Sea is very poetic. Implying genocide into it is largely projection. As is the case with intifada. I believe using apartheid is less helpful as the analogy with South Africa isn't precise. What was genius about the anti apartheid movement was that it used their word against them. The same focus should be on Zionism, which must be shown to be an ideology of ethnic cleansing.

  • @boltedmeal8182

    @boltedmeal8182

    Ай бұрын

    @@SuperKripke "from the river to the see, Palestinians will be free” diffuses the projection significantly. It gives way to the immediate necessity of Zios to retort, put them on the defense, instead of immediate projection and obfuscation. It also doesn't remove implications of genocide. At the least it leads to "Palestinians" are not free? Why?.

    The problem I see with today’s left wing activists is they are more concerned with their own ego and their own status among their piers than they are concerned about effecting change on the issue they are protesting. It’a a manifesting of the me generation. That’s what I’ve at UNM where I’m a graduate student. I support the movement 1000%, but the activists are unhinged, yelling this very slogan into a megaphone, with a very aggressive energy. It’s so off putting.

    I am glad Norman Finkelstein delivered these supportive, extremely pragmatic/helpful and informative remarks before the suppression of free speech and protests at Columbia revved up. I just bought several of his books & can’t wait to binge them! Especially his book on Aland Derschowitz, which sadly isn’t available on Kindle or cheap-o paperback. Unfortunately, UT Austin & tons of other schools are leveraging Columbia’s high profile current visibility to do the same. I am at UT Austin and Governor Abbott unleashed the law on campus this week (UT Austin is a public university.) I appreciate the activism at Columbia, but I regret the BS over-reactions to it & the backlash’s distortion & shameless exploitation of what’s happening. Keep it up Columbia, even though universities nationwide, public and private, & idiots like Greg Abbott are imposing punitive and unconstitutional punishments. Their current suppression shows ur on the right side paving the way for the truth prevailing over power. The public isn’t fooled by the tired-a$s misrepresentations of your protests. Things have changed since they went all McCarthyism on Claudine Gay & __. They’re so threatened by campus protests and students support for Palestine, it’s pathetic to see them make campus look like a police state, but the optics will backfire! Just like the dogs & firehose of Jim Crow states during Civil Rights.

    "from the river to the see, Palestinians will be free” diffuses the projection significantly. It gives way to the immediate necessity of Zios to retort, put them on the defense, instead of immediate projection and obfuscation. It also doesn't remove implications of genocide. At the least it leads to "Palestinians" are not free? Why?. Norm is right about the necessity to be strategic in revolutionary movements. I would also add disciplined. Unlike the disrespectful showboat at the end.

    @@robertb7643It's a change in a starting point to the same point. I don't see how it lowers the standard of the statement or saying "Palestinians" denies "Palestine". Zios and those who back them will not be receptive. Forcing them to move extra steps is a good thing. It gives our side the upper hand right off the gate. This is also a war in all fronts and tactful advantages should be implemented.

    This young woman, with the black glasses, when he said “to get out of one’s naval, to crawl out of one’s ego” - he was talking to you. [although it is certain he prepared his remarks, with painstaking detail, your behavior infuriated and offended me and my entire, very FOB, Palestinian family. Initially, I thought oh dear she doesn’t realize how much she is in the frame and she’s prob so embarrassed she’s just on her phone. And then for like 30 minutes, it occurred to me you were bothered, annoyed and making fun of this man, less than three feet of his face, I mean how rude! And disrespectful just eye rolling and not giving him a second of attention or respect - the man is speaking, when someone is speaking, we don’t speak over them. Our friends would say no shhh let me finish. We would not then just ignore them and kill time until they finished what they were trying to communicate to us. (roll the tape) you did not listen to 60 seconds of his speaking with any sustained focus. I don’t know anything about you, and if you are Palestinian we need to talk asap. If you are not, you are not helping this movement with this attitude or behavior. And I am your age. So this is a peer. Lots of love. Hope we can connect.

    Norman could easily have preached to the choir yet chose not to. And the crowd could have blindly taken his advice yet chose not to. It shows that they all have everyone's best interests in mind. You seem like you want everyone to sync together and become a monolith. Now that could be harmful. We need a diversity of opinion to move forward and learn.

    The last girl guy whatever proved his point exactly - it was about their ego, not heeding to wise, intellectual, experienced words and giving it serious consideration, but rushing up almost in open disdain, as if they just couldn't wait to contradict him in his face to prove a point. So disrespectful and frankly, a big minus on the 'face' of the movement for people who are on the outside observing. I also completely agree with Doc Fink about the issue of suppressing academic freedom on the basis of hurt feelings, which is coming to bite the leftists in the ass now. It's just hypocritical when you can't handle say, a Jordan Peterson on campus and then decry suppression of free speech when the other side is using the same argument. And they have much more money, power, and influence and can even fire the heads of colleges for simply 'not doing enough.' Ceasefirenow, deliver humanitarian aid, end blockade of Gaza & occupation of West Bank ✌
