Been a "british invasion" guy all my life. I'm 54. I play mostly acoustic these days (A D18 and a D28). I'm quickly becoming a Norman Blake fan :)

This was the Old Time Country Music Show on IPTV on Thursday night. I watched every one if I could, great stuff. There were a lot of nationally known players on that show. I taped a bunch of them on VHS, and still have a player. I'm going to have to dig them out and listen to them again.

What a beautiful sounding mandolin. It may be a Loar. It has that desirable "barking" quality! She has flawless technique.

Agreed, but it is a Gibson. Headstock says "The Gibson" old, maybe '30s?

Loar was the last name of the man who perfected Gibson's mandolin sound. Some "Loar's" sell for over $100,000 today.

Bob Minner recently released a "tribute" album to Norman (and Nancy) Blake that includes this (with Mike Compton) and another of her great mandolin tunes, "Year of the Locust (Farewell to Old Rufus)." The album tracks are now on YT.
