I've only discovered him a month ago through reference on a vid. God am I glad this man existed. I'm Irish mid 30s, this is golden 90s TV and just silly edgy funny and brilliantly orated by a handsome man, has nothing quirky except the sheer humour and essence of whit he exudes, its fuckin brilliant and I been laughing my fuckin head off this past month!!!!

Not only is it great to have all of Norm's WU bits in one video, it's also a great glimpse into what the news cycle was like in the mid-late 90s. Weird times for sure. Wouldve loved to see what a Norm-style Weekend Update show for headlines from the past several years looked like.

No, you are 100% wrong.. he was asked to stop doing OJ jokes, and he still went out and did them anyway, which is what ended his career with SNL for the time being, but it boosted his overall career. He was invited back on SNL as a host so Frank Stallone had nothing to do with it and his career definitely didn't end, which makes you wrong. You actually got three dumb people to agree with you 🤣🤣🤣

Those are all some of my favorites too. Norm always said his favorite kind of joke was one where the punchline was as close to the premise as possible. Just the idea of Norm and company coming up with ideas for jokes like this makes me smile

I think the closest term for it is "dry humor". But Norm was in a league of his own, not sure there's really a pre-existing category for his style! Nice selections btw :)

@@chillaxTFit’s his take on meta comedy. Meta meaning self aware humor. Norm didn’t like meta comedy because it was often up its own ass at being so clever, (see Rick and Morty). But Norm found a way to be self aware but also always having a punch line. Saying the most obvious thing but because of the long setup and complete misdirect you didn’t see it coming even tho it’s the obvious joke right in front of you. Weirdly meta without being meta is how I describe it.

Love having the audio for this! Understand it would be real tough to string together video clips (possible copyright issues?) ... The only joke that is better with the image is the one about Prince Charles being the one in the middle... too funny!

There are going to be some that come across this and say, "You couldn't get away with saying this stuff now..." He didn't "get away with" saying this stuff THEN. Norm was constantly in trouble about the jokes he told and, oh yeah, GOT FIRED FROM SNL.

@@HOGuru Well, Norm was a brilliant comedian, but part of what made him brilliant is that he took risks. Taking risks means that occasionally, you're going to have jokes that fail or flop or (rightfully) offend or piss people off. This is largely hilarious, but there are some jokes in here that are just fucked up. He shouldn't have told them. And I think even Norm would agree. That's something modern comedians have forgotten: Occasionally, in your comedy, you will cross a line you shouldn't have. Don't make a big deal out of it, your joke bombed, move on.

Any idea where one could find the video version of this, or a WU video recording repository?

Regarding the joke about the lady who had boiling hot mcdonalds coffee scald her skin off being a "senile old hag," the coffee was so hot that the lady had to have skin grafts on her crotch and both legs, also the lid of the coffee cup didnt fit the cup correctly, so it fell off easily, a known faulty design that mcdonalds chose to ignore (like the skin scalding temperature of their coffee which they had alrwady been repeatedly warned about), on top of that, she only "sued" to have her medical expenses covered after McDonald's refused to help her in any way. And *then,* to top it off, mcdonalds not only fought her, they orchestrated this horrific smear campaign against her in which they actually paid late night talk show hosts and comedians to spin the story and lie in order to annihilate her character to such a degree that she and her family actually had to go into hiding *after* she was finally released from intensive care.

That was a terrible story. I was one of the people fooled by mcdonalds scumbag pr campaign. For years I believed she was one of the worst of the fraudulent lawsuit crowd. Then I saw the pictures of her wounds and read what actually happened. Mcdonalds should still be apologizing to her.😢
