The solution to the cab-driver's riddle is not "it's me" but "it's my son". Crazy how many people get that wrong.
@acidgroove101

No, it's the teller of the joke. He's "this man" who is his father's son. Otherwise, there is no riddle, and no joke. Like the uncle in the joke when he gets back to his wife, you are telling it wrong.
@toyfabrik2993
2 жыл бұрын
@@acidgroove101 , nope, but this seems to be a common mistake. The correct solution is easy to see once you replace the phrase "is my father's son" by "is me". You can do that because he has no brothers. So it boils down to: "This man's father IS ME" Meaning: The man in question ("this man") is indeed his son.
@acidgroove101
2 жыл бұрын
@@toyfabrik2993 Yeah, I realize that Norm must have changed it to facilitate the punchline: "Some f___in' cab driver in New York." @@DarioHernandezFilms I guess Conan was making fun of the way Norm describes things, Norm was talking about their "dirty arses", which is kind of British slang, so Conan said "wow like Chaucer". Norm immediately said "Old English" which shows he at least knows about Chaucer. But I've heard and seen many accounts from people who said Norm was always reading books, especially Russian authors like Dostoevsky... actually one of his most imfamous jokes about the moth and the pediatrist's office references a lot of Russian names... he was very well read but he understood that a comics role is to pretend like you're stupid. Norm was always the smartest person in the room however, and would take the audience on a wild ride just for his own amusement.

These two are so great together. Norm brings out the BEST Conan, and vice versa.

Love Norm, but the riddle makes no sense.. this mans (my) father is my fathers son, would mean that the father is the father of the father himself.. the father is his own son? Also the more i hear his gay stories/jokes and the way he says them and the fact that is it Norm who says them, makes me think he really is gay.. that would be the most brilliant Norm-gag he had ever pulled off..

@uk6strings I like how Norm just tells it like it is and is not over the top. He isn't necessarily looking for a laugh when says things. They are just true observations that are presented in a straight forward matter. The fact that he can make people laugh with such nonchalance is what makes him a true genius.
The solution to the cab-driver's riddle is not "it's me" but "it's my son". Crazy how many people get that wrong.
@acidgroove101
2 жыл бұрын
No, it's the teller of the joke. He's "this man" who is his father's son. Otherwise, there is no riddle, and no joke. Like the uncle in the joke when he gets back to his wife, you are telling it wrong.
@toyfabrik2993
@acidgroove101
2 жыл бұрын
@@toyfabrik2993 Yeah, I realize that Norm must have changed it to facilitate the punchline: "Some f___in' cab driver in New York." It wouldn't work as well, if it was"Some f___in' cab driver's son..."😉 And yet, as you say a lot of people, including me, didn't notice, and Conan played along ("Yeah, that makes sense.") Norm is just so convincing, lol.

Conan: This is like Chaucer Norm: Yeah, old English People who don't understand Norm MacDonald don't understand how fucking intelligent he really is. His entire deal is pretending to be the idiot, when in reality he is incredibly well read and has studied the art of comedy more than anyone else. You either get him or you don't, and if you don't, unfortunately you're not an intelligent person.
@DarioHernandezFilms
Жыл бұрын
Can you explain the Chaucer thing because I always noticed that lol.
@vtaycur
Жыл бұрын
@@DarioHernandezFilms I guess Conan was making fun of the way Norm describes things, Norm was talking about their "dirty arses", which is kind of British slang, so Conan said "wow like Chaucer".
4:15 payback for when Conan said "I'm over here" in the Norm met Larry Flint show. Also it's just like that time when he asked Barbara Walters at the View, "are you listening?"
