My favorite thing ever is watching friends enjoy the stuff I like, which also has the unfortunate side effect of them driving me insane if they don't pay attention or dismiss said stuff without giving it a chance. Fortunately, I've NEVER had that happen with Hamilton, and I've almost never seen any online reactions (aside from one that got ratio'd into oblivion) displaying any dismissive negativity.

Leslie Odom sings with such passion and emotion, especially in this song. He poured his heart out. At the “And Hamilton wrote... THE OTHER 51!” You can hear the anger in his voice And the “Why do you assume your the smartest in the room” you can hear the laid back and jealousy. Stuff like this shows up throughout the entire musical from him

The first act doesn't end on Yorktown because Hamilton is the story of Alexander Hamilton, not the story of the founding of America :) So they're establishing the next phase of his life with Dear Theodosia and Non stop.

Ahh yes, my favorite cast/ensemble song. The storytelling, the motifs, all leading to that last section when each character sings their theme... Eliza: Helpless! That would be enough... Angelica: He will never be satisfied! Burr: Wait for it! Why do you write like you're running out of time... Washington: History has its eyes on you! To that last moment where they sing all together: HISTORY HAS ITS EYES ON YOU!!!! Gives me chills every time!!! And of course, Hamilton: I am Alexander Hamilton, I am not throwing away my shot! *chef's kiss* Perfection

I loved the idea I heard some time ago: Eliza is the only one who is singing not rapping during the whole musical. It´s because she had the most time from all of the characters. She was the only one who didn´t have to rap (speak quickly to say everything she wants to say), but had time to sing it instead.

There's an interesting...gimmick, for lack of a better word that Miranda uses in this that you may or may have not noticed by now: Regardless of the song, regardless of whether or not it fits with the rest of it, Hamilton always introduces himself by singing his name in the exact same way that he sang it in the line "My name is Alexander Hamilton" in the opening song. It was a way of showing that he was always true to himself regardless of whether that served his interests or the interests of his nearest and dearest (and often to his and their detriment, as you'll see).

Thanks for doing these!!!!--- I can't wait for you to get through the rest of the album and then go watch the filmed piece to see how all the things you are picking up in the music are mirrored and echoed in the the visuals of lighting, staging, and choreography.

You asked about the panning of the characters’ singing. I am not sure about whether they are in one ear or the other but what I can say is this. During “Helpless” when Angelica and Alexander are talking, their sound is in one ear. During “Satisfied”, the song immediately following, their talking is in the other ear. The reason for this is that each song is from one sister’s point of view. So they have used that technique to demonstrate that, even if it’s subtle. That is an abridged version of what Alex Lacamoire has said.

To answer your "panning ears" question, there is one point in Helpless/Satisfied where they intentionally changed it from Eliza in the center (Helpless) to Angelica in the center (Satisfied) but using the same dialogue, everyone just shifts over.

What I love about your analysis is that you're QUICK, man. Doesn't lose a bit of what you're trying to get across by getting right to it, pointing it out, appreciating it, and then BAM... we're back and the flow has usually barely been interrupted. Great work. Also...the comment on top - so right below where I'm typing, says Non Stop is the best song of the show. KIND OF agree, only holding back because I appreciate the subjective nature of music. "Best" is an opinion. BUT... it's ABSOLUTELY one that I share! You are a pioneer in that you are the only person doing reactions that focus on the music instead of the lyrics, actors movements, etc. It's made me realize how much more the music tied into the choreography, stage movements, etc. When you finally watch it, PLEASE do it as a live stream so your fans can watch along with you. Just like this song, there's so much throwed at you in such a small amount of time that every time you listen/watch Hamilton you find something you never knew or notice before. It could be a unnoticed musical effect, a callback to a other song, a foreshadowing or something as simple as realizing what the dance moves represent.

The part where you mentioned the fluttery echo on the piano, it was actually playing the melody to Alexander Hamilton (opening song)

I just binged watched all of your Hamilton reactions (this being the last one you posted)! I thoroughly enjoyed your very astute examination of these songs. I strongly recommend that you watch the Disney version or listen to the songs in order. Not only is this a musical brilliance, the story is amazing and it hits so hard in the heart in more ways than one!

Can't wait to hear the second act! You should definitely watch it after you get through those. As far as other songs, since you've started in on Pentatonix, New Rules X Are you that Somebody is amazing. Havana is also really good.

Nonstop is the best song in the musical hands down. It has a piece of almost every song thus far and is a great way to close out act 1. I used to that Yorktown would have been a better ending to act 1 since it’s the big victory but nonstop sets up act 2 really well. It shows that we’re moving away from the Revolution and focusing on the founding of American government. So we’ll done

Hearing the end of this, and how it all works together, shows you how don't talk about Bruno is not a one time fluke. Lin wants to show you how good at this he is, and he loves weaving a tapestry with what you've heard already.

I know I’m really late but one of my favorite things about this song is that at the end Hamilton is singing “I’m not throwing away my shot” and the ensemble is echoing “Just you wait” as if foreshadowing that Hamilton is going to end up throwing away his shot later. It kind of echos this theme throughout the musical that the ensemble knows the story and are forced to play along and they are sitting here staring at Hamilton as if to say you will, just you wait, you will throw away the shot

Just discovered your channel today and I’ve watched almost all of your Hamilton reactions! I love the way you break down the music and pay such close attention to notice all the motifs and clever musical techniques and rhymes. Would highly recommend a KZread video by MakeStuff (kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4t_k6Rqdcy3Z7g.html) exploring a lot of the lyrical motifs in Hamilton, most notably the “Wait For It” motif. Probably watch it after you’ve listened to the rest of the musical as it does have spoilers ;)
