I saw this in WIEN and TOKYO five times. She is dramatically very good, Hosen-rolle!She is my saviour. Those days, my boy friend was Opera in Vienna all the time. Afterwards, I followed her parts singing as a house wife's hobby. I did it! And I won a prise at the classroom! Thanks to Gabriela!

i love the bit at the end where Cherubino just goes, basically, "if no one wants to hear me out, i'll just tell myself, damnit!" and the royal flop onto the chair while susanna watches on (srsly she's like the long suffering friend, shaking her head at cherubino's antics) is adorably silly

cherubino is always a woman because there's no man that can sing as a mezzosoprano and the choice to use a woman was made by Mozart and Da Ponte when they composed this opera... (I'm sorry if my english isn't good and I hope I was clear enogh...) :)

"Why is Cherubino always a woman"? Because, the part was written for Soprano voice, or traditionally Castrato voice. I think it is rather self evident why, in a time where such actions would be considered inappropriate, the use of a Castrato voice would be less than reputable (not so much the castrato, and more how the castrato came to be).

I've always thought that "Le nozze di Figaro" is a lesbian opera. Otherwise, Why is cherubino always a woman? ¬¬ suspicious...

Cherubino is supposed to sing high notes, and a man can't do that.....that is, a straight and normal man, anyway...
