OP 22 marks an absolutely INSANE shift in production value in the show. The show basically had the same team and structure for nine HUNDRED episodes before there was a big shake-up and some new lead directors took over. They INSTANTLY jumped up the quality by outsourcing some of the animation work to overseas artists, letting those animators really bring their A-game for an episode a few months in the future, instead of having one team in-house animate an entire 22 minute episode in a week. They also matched the style: the arc that starts in OP 22 is based on Kabuki theater and Japanese history, so it's all ink brush and watercolor visuals. It's an ENORMOUS step up from the previous arcs.

I didn't know that but I just got to wano the other day and instantly noticed that the animation got like 10x better, and I thought Whole Cake looked really great too. The linework and direction just looks SO GOOD. Totally fits with the vibes of wano as well

How lucky that Toei decided to invest more in One piece. Without a doubt, the pace and quality of the work was declining since the beginning of the time-skip. With chapters so insufferably stretched that I even switched to manga to finish the Desrossa arc lol

​@@randalabra3852The director changed around the middle of wholecake, and while they were still using the same animation pipeline, there was def a step up in the latter half of that arc. Like the OP said there was a change up in the pipeline, but on top of getting all those great outsourced animators, they fixed up the schedule, used new tech and basically got the staff who were animating DB Super Broly and One Piece Stampede in theor regular rotation for the big cuts. Good scheduling usually means smoother production and high quality

Devijae noticing spoilers and just being "I'll keep that to myself" is hilarious

The OP at 15:30 is for the 5th anniversary, the first opening sang by the voice actors of the crew. The one at 22:15 is for the 10th anniversary, is a remixed version of the first one. 58:50 is a remake of the first one, 22 years later with improved visuals in celebration of episode 1000. For old time fans that is a very emotional theme.

Gotta love the energy and the excitement here. Also, the extra editing easily elevates this above most other reactions, it's that bit of extra effort where you're not _just_ reacting to the OPs. This lineup's missing the actual OP 24 by the way. The one you have at 24 is a single-episode special one (for episode 1000), which is usually not counted into the total number. The actual OP 24 is Paint by I Don't Like Mondays.

honestly this is the best One Piece opening reaction video I've seen because unlike most of the other ones where people try to pick them apart and see what they can learn about One Piece this video just feels like some friends watching something and having fun with it.

I have this wierd reasoning but out of all "battle shonen" to me One Piece isn't and its due to when talking about one piece and its moments, imo, i never talk about the fights its all those moments leading up and what you mentioned about the context and themes! I just recently caught up with One Piece after 2 months of binge watching, so watching this was highly enjoyable to see their journey again through all the openings and watching your reactions. Would HIGHLY recommend watching this anime, it is incredible! well worth the watch. def one of the greatest stories ever told.

One Piece is such a beautiful journey man. The reason it's so mainstream is because there is so many world-building factors that it covers: slavery, classism, corruption, history, powers, and so on. OP isn't black and white with its character types. The straw hats aren't even heroes. They're pirates. Being a pirate means they can live freely without societal constraints.
