Skyrim's official trailer still makes me feel them goosebumps. If you wanna feel more goosebumps, I recommend you watch all the trailers of Skyrim's DLCs The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Hearthfire The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Dawnguard The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Dragonborn Hearthfire DLC is just family life DLC where you get to adopt children and build a house of your own. Dawnguard DLC is about a vampire cult trying to block out the sun forever. You can join them or be a member of vampire hunters called the Dawnguard. Dragonborn DLC is about the Dovahkiin, you, the last dragonborn, vs. Miraak, the first dragonborn.

There's broadly speaking two storytelling philosophies in rpgs, depth focused or breadth. Depth focused games (The Witcher or Mass effect are examples) tend to focus more on characters, plot, and personal conflict while having a more focused story with less player agency. Breadth focused games (Skyrim and the rest of the Elder scrolls series) give you an incredibly broad playing field and frequently some interesting worldbuilding but never goes into great detail on any of the stories. This gives the player a lot of agency but results in less detail to motivations, conflicts etc. I usually prefer depth focused games but I will say that Skyrim is a landmark for the genre and managed to win me over entirely on the strength of its soundtrack.

Regarding the term "update" in games, they can vary, some can be something little like bug fixes (think of them as fixing grammar and/or spelling errors) or new content (like adding a short story to your novel) the creations mentioned in the anniversary edition trailer, refer to mostly non-canon extra content, most creations are made by the community (like fan fictions for books/movies/etc.)... problem is sometimes the naming convetion varies from game to game/ developer to developer, for example sometimes the new content is called "expansion" like in destiny, sometimes it's called "addon" like in World of Warcraft, sometimes they are simply refered to as DLC (downloadable content) like most other games... yes it can get convoluted ^^

About the fishing thing, while you are right to question "Why not just go fishing", there is a large number of players who aren't able to. There was this very famous player, the "Skyrim Granny" whom I imagine wouldn't be physically able to go fishing in real life, along with people with limited motor skills, who lives far away from any fishing spots, or who just prefers to imerse themselves in a fantasy universe and enjoy it for what it is. For those people, additions like a fishing mode that adds gameplay that doesn't focus on "go be the hero" or "go do violence/crimes" is a great way to make a game feel more immersive, enjoyable and give you more stuff to do in a game and setting that you already love so much, as evidenced by the fact that people have spent the past 10 years playing this game. :P

Ok, in regards to the last vid you watched, on the subject of Dragons being the "bad guys" the answer is: Kind of. Here's the cliff notes: the Dragons are the children of one of The Elder Scrolls gods, named Akatosh, the god of Time. He had a plan that one of his boyos, Alduin, was gonna be the End of Time. Think Jormundgandr from traditional Norse lore. Alduin was gonna eat time. At first, lil' ol' Alduin was on board with big daddy Akatosh's plan, and so were the other Dragons that he was kind of the de facto leader of. Then Alduin got too big for his breeches. You see, a bunch of stupid humans decided that, since Dragons were so damn powerful, being, y'know, the children of a literal GOD and all, the Dragons deserved to be worshipped. And since Alduin was pretty important among the Dragons, they decided that most of their worship should go towards him. So Al thought, "You know what? I don't want to eat time. Not anytime soon, anyways. This whole being worshipped as a god myself is kind neat." And then Alduin, along with pretty much every other Dragon in existence, became tyrannical despots, ruling over the races of men through their godlike reality-bending VOICES and the clergy of the Dragon Cult that formed under them. And it SUUUUUUUUUUCKED. Mankind was all but reduced to a slave-race for the Dragons. The only humans who really had any kind of quality of life were the super high ranking members of the Dragon Cult, called Dragon Priests. One of whom was named Miraak. So the goddess Kynareth saw what was happening, and went to Akatosh and said, "Yo, bro. Your kids are kinda ruining everything." Akatosh finally pulled his head out of his own rear and agreed, "Yeah, we should probably do something about that. Hey, look at this Miraak guy. He's actually pretty clever. I'mma give him the power to eat my kids souls and gain power since my kids apparently need something that can kill them." (quick note, Dragons in TES are technically immortal since they don't exactly exist in the same instance of time that the rest of the world does. So until this point there was actually NO POSSIBLE WAY to kill a dragon permanently.) So Miraak got a new shiny power and it went to HIS head. He started to lust after power and knowledge and ended up getting into a big fight with the rest of the Priesthood that eventually took a piece of Skyrim and shoved it into the ocean. Before he was killed, though, Miraak made a deal with another god, Hermaeus Mora, Prince of Knowledge, and got sucked into that god's own realm. But from that point on, every great once-in-the-while a human, primarily Nord, would be born that could not only absorb the soul of a Dragon, they could also naturally use the power of the Dragons' language without any training. That there is what came to be known as the 'Dragonborn'. A mortal born with the 'soul' of a dragon. Clearly, though, that wasn't enough. Miraak was absconded by Herma Mora, and Alduin was still a prick. So Kynareth decided that Akatosh wasn't really gonna fix things, and decided to teach regular mortals how to speak the Dragon language and use its powers FOR THE PURPOSES OF GOOD! How, exactly? She convinced one of Alduin's lieutenants, Paarthurnax, a Dragon that had committed horrific atrocities and killed MILLIONS OF INNOCENT MORTALS, to betray Alduin and switch sides. Kyne: "Yo, P. You need to be good and help the weak-sauce mortals." P: "Why?" Kyne: "I'll call you a 'good boy' and give you belly rubs." P: "Sweet, I'm in." And so Paarthurnax grew a conscience as big as his Draconic ego and started to teach the normies how to Shout. This led to a civil war between the oppressed people and the Dragon Cult, and eventually led to a bunch of people dying, with no end to the war in sight. So a group of three Nords with tha cahones to actually do something DRASTIC got their hands on an Elder Scroll (think the literal blueprints of reality written on a 4-D piece of paper) and made a brand new set of words that somehow didn't exist in the Drago Lingo before. Then they put Alduin on blast and told him to meet them on top of the highest mountain in Skyrim. Al decided he was done with cancel culture and went to confront these plebs, but didn't expect them to ACTUALLY have anything on him. There, they used the power of the Elder Scroll they found and their new, made-up words, and literally SHOUTED ALDUIN OUT OF TIME. And by that, I mean Alduin got Samurai Jack'd. You see, these three people knew they couldn't ACTUALLY BEAT ALDUIN. None of them were Dragonborn. So they decided to send Al to a time when there was somebody who actually COULD do something about it. And that's how we got "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim". As you play through Skyrim you meet up with a redeemed Paarthurnax who just wants his Dragon bros to be good again and do their actual jobs of curating time and making sure the mortals don't eff up too much before Akatosh decides to end Time. And it becomes your job as the main character to take on the role of parent and put Alduin in inter-dimensional time-out so Akatosh can FINALLY get off his lazy butt and have Al sit back and wait to do his actual job.

There's a lot of different gaming genres, skyrim is a: Open world, 1st person, action,(fantasy,) rpg Open world: the game tells you where to go but doesn't restrict you in how or when you get there, the game is a big map for you to explore 1st person: you look trough your characters eyes (more common in shooters) Action: more defined by what it isn't, basically means everything happens in real time, you click a button > character does a thing > world reacts Rpg: role playing game,(your) character driven story, The term comes from table top games like D&D and broadly applies to any game that tries to emulate an aspect of ttrpgs For skyrim that means custom charachter creation, quests and a bit of dungeons

So, regarding the Anniversary Edition video: that was sort of your first foray into the economics of video games, so it seems like a good time to explain it in further detail. Hopefully you'll find this enlightening. First, there are three basic terms that need explaining: base game, DLC, and mods. The base game is what you buy when you first purchase the game - like buying a book. DLC, short for "downloadable content", is things that are officially added to the base game by the developing studio; this is like if a collection of short stories in the same setting was sold to supplement the original book. Mods ("modifications") are unofficial content created by fans of the game, and shared with the wider community for mutual enjoyment; the closest analogy would be fan fiction. With that established, let's get into the real point I want to make. Be warned, I and many other gamers have strong opinions on this matter; so what I'm about to say isn't exactly unbiased, and I would ask that you forgive my jaded self for going on a bit of a rant. Over the last ten years or so, there has been this pernicious mentality pervading the gaming industry, where simply making a game and selling it is not enough -- the product has to be monetized in every way it can conceivably be monetized. Sometimes this is done in ways that are actually worth the extra money; e.g., Skyrim Special Edition had significant improvements to the graphics that would have been difficult (or perhaps impossible) to implement as an update to the base game. But often, and ever more so as time has marched on, these monetizing schemes have been shameless cash-grabs that either add nothing of value to the game, or outright harm the playing experience. In the case of Skyrim, one of these schemes is the "Creation Club" -- a marketplace of mods, some created by the Bethesda company and others by fans, that are sold for money. This on its own might not have been so bad; except the prices are highway robbery, the publisher takes an enormous cut, and in many cases the official "Creations(tm)" of the company are simply of inferior quality to similar amateur mods that can be downloaded for free. Imagine if your publisher threw together the trashiest fan fictions set in your story that it could muster, sold them individually in bookstores nationwide, for $2.00 apiece (when your own book was $20), then took the lion's share of the profits for itself while you as the author of the original work hardly got anything, if they gave you anything at all. That's what Creation Club was like when it debuted, and as far as I know it hasn't really improved much since then. As egregious as the Creation Club was -- and by no means should it get a free pass for "only" going as far as it did -- it is nowhere near the worst offender in the gaming industry to date, or even the worst offense by Bethesda. I could recommend videos covering the subject in more detail if it should interest you, but they will most likely just leave you upset and disappointed in humanity, so I totally understand if you'd rather I didn't. Suffice to say otherwise, it's reached the point where the buyer has to be so exceptionally cautious in which games they choose to buy and which publishers they buy them from, that for a lot of us it's just not worth the hassle anymore. Some of these issues could potentially be fixed through future regulation of the industry, and there are signs that some studios are finding their way back to their roots and focusing on just making games fun again. But the present state of affairs is not good, and a lot has to happen before it will get better. Again, apologies for the rant. I still love seeing your reactions, and I hope we can all keep having fun sharing in the things that make games entertaining. Live Long And Prosper.

Fun fact: The main theme for Skyrim is not just a re-worked version of the main theme from previous Elder Scrolls games, but it also includes a chorus that sings the legend of the Dragonborn that will defeat Alduin (the big Dragon badie) that is sang in the in-universe dragon language. So yeah, it's not "epic sounding gibberish", it's actually a fitting song for the game's setting! That only makes the theme even more epic!

13:54 The reason it isn’t seen as evil to eat a dragon’s soul is because dragons aren’t really animals like they are in other stories. The Dragons were created by the god of time, in order to end the world so a new one could be created. So the fact that the dragons have returned after their defeat by the ancients can only mean just that. In a way, the dragons and Dragonborns are incarnations the the god of time. This is why throughout the game, the Dragonborn is referred to multiple times as dragon himself, with the only difference being his appearance.

The elder Scrolls is a series of rpg's usually subtitled after the area they occur in, Skyrim being the latest. The circling each other video comes from the Elder Scrolls Online, which is the MMO version of the single player games. Also there is a certain type of boardgame which is more like Dungeons and Dragons, and is meant to be played over a long time in smaller chunks. Morphidius is the developer of several of these and Skyrim the board game looks like one. Another thing is Skyrim is very moddable, which means normal players can create their own versions including entire new worlds, magic systems etc. Thats one of the reasons it has lasted so long.

So Hannah, for a DLC expansion for a game like Skyrim, try thinking about it like this: There's a book already published about a hero's adventure. Later, you publish a sequel to that book, but instead of taking the story somewhere else and starting a new big plot arc, you have the protagonist revisit the locations and characters from the first book. He/she can discover how has the first book's events influenced the previously met characters and possibly have new small adventures with them. But instead of fighting big bad evils they do small stuff, like going fishing or finding a new pet for someone's kid.

I never played Elder Scrolls one or two. They were before my time. Elder Scrolls 3, 4 and 5 all won game of the year for the years they were released. They are all set in the same world, Tamriel, but are set hundreds or even thousands of years from each other and in different parts of the world. ES3 starts with your character waking up on a prison ship heading towards Morrowind. You get off the ship and find out you're being pardoned by the Emperor's decree (he sent a nice fancy letter to his representative in Morrowind, you don't get to meet the Emperor yourself). You never find out what crime you committed, though. In return for your freedom, you get to work for the Blades, the Emperor's agents and spies. The main quest is to maintain peace in the area by taking on and defeating a god. All the side quests are there to give you the chance to get strong enough to do so. ES4 starts with your character waking up in prison (sensing a pattern). Then the Emperor himself and some of his guards walk into your cell and open a secret passage. If you'd known this, you could have escaped at any time. At least they let you follow along. After the Emperor and his bodyguards fight through multiple assassination attempts he gives you his necklace and pendant (symbol of his office) and tells you to get it to his son. Huge amounts of content in this game but the main quest is to get the son to be the next Emperor before the world tears apart. ES5, Skyrim starts with you waking up in a cart, tied up as a prisoner with a bunch of other prisoners. You're on your way to a village, where they're going to execute you. You're looking up at the executioner and a freaking dragon attacks. You get away in the confusion and after several steps, find out you're the Dragonborn. Which means you're the only person who can permanently kill a dragon. Which is good, because dragons are popping up everywhere. The main quest of this game is to kill the dragon that attacked just as you were about to be executed, because he's the one that's waking up all the other dragons. The online game, I tried to play that for a while, but it just wasn't interesting to me. So I don't know what the main story is about, but it's a game that lets you go anywhere in Tamriel, not just limited to a single region. But the transition from single player to massive multiplayer online game (mmo) makes it so players who loved the way Skyrim was played might not enjoy this as much. Hard to describe, but the different types of games have different fans, even though there's some overlap between them, I'm not a huge mmo fan. There's only one mmo that I've been able to really get into and that's Star Wars The Old Republic.

It’s so good that my sis (who isn’t a gamer and even makes fun of me for playing them) plays this all the time. It’s the sandbox that allows you to do literally anything you want. Continue the story, ignore the story completely, live peacefully, build a house for your family and make a farm, or just straight up kill everything like a maniac. The freedom of choice, story, creativity and beauty is what makes skyrim so memorable.

You actually don't need to memorize anything with the board game (tho the game goes smoother if you memorize the rules at least, lol), you got cards and tokens that keep track of everything for you. And yes, more content and story is generally a good thing for games. They don't follow a static route decided by the author of the story, they have more of a dynamically branching one. Even a linear game will be dynamic in how you chose to tackle the obstacles along the way. A regular book and a movie can be a wild ride in itself if the story is a well paced winding river, but they are a passively observed medium of entertainment, different from a game that is more like a 'choose your own adventure' kind of deal that depend on the readers interaction and decisions to tell its full story. More story in a game thus means more choices and more opportunities. Generally it doesn't change the main story, it's instead more often something optional that is an additional source of rewards and lore.

The elder scrolls games loosely build on each other in a broad way, each game up till skyrim took place roughly in the same generation during major upheavals. Skyrim is set after a 400 year time skip iirc, during which the largest sociopolitical changes to the setting occur. The Empire has lost many provinces, the high elves congealed into a magical-fascist elf-supremacist group called the Aldmeri Dominion and took the wood elf and cat-man provinces with them, and everything in general is in.... a way worse place than the first 4 games

Not enough room in your brain. May I recommend a external data storage like a digital notepad. Maybe something old school, like paper. Also the Dragons are split as well. One group wants to rule the world like in the old days. Another wants a peaceful co-existence. And the adding content is like adding arc that ran parallel to the main story, but was glossed over. Like how Tracy Hickman glossed over Laurana adventures in Ice Wall in the Dragonlace novels, then wrote a small novel detailing it later on. It doesn't changes the main story, but it enriches the story and expands the lore and world. Please look up more Final Fantasy stuff.

The plot of the game happens in...Skyrim, one of the 8-9 Provinces of the continent of Tamriel. You begin the game as a captured man, who is on its way to be executed( nearly all the TES games starts with you being in jail and having ot get out of it, its like the series gimmick) You execution tho is postponed when a Dragon attacks the town you're in and burns it to the ground, you barely escape with a couple of guys and are on your way to a new life. You discover that when a Dragon's die and your nearby, you can absorb his Soul and powers, and you have a keen talent to use "The Voice" or also called the "Thu'Um". Its basically means that you cna use Power Words in the tongue of Dragon's, its then you learn that you are the Dragonborn, a Mortal born with the Soul of a Dragon. The Dragon that attcked the town where you where at is Alduin, the Herald of the End times, the Dragon that is fabled to bring the End of the world and Eat all of Tamriel, so off course, since you are one of the blokes that lives in Tamriel, you cannot let it happen, and you go on (ONE of the MANY) Quest to put an end to Alduin and its reign of terror. There's also a Civil War going on in Skyrim, where half of it are behind a rebelious force of Nords that believe that Skyrim are for the Nords only, and they need to kick out the Empire's lackey's The Empire of Cyrodiil is the Empire that reign on all the provinces of Tamriel, but 30 years ago, a Faction of High Elves named the Thalmor took control of the Aldmeri Dominion, and waged war against the Empire, at the end of the War, the empire capitulated and signed a treaty with the Thalmor's, the Thalmor's are basically running the show and controling the Cyrodillic empire, so thats why a part of the Nords in Skyrim rebelled, cause the Thalmor's banned the Whorship of Talos, one of the 9 Divines(Gods) worshipped in Tamriel, Talos IS Skyrim's Patron deity and greatest Hero, a Man made God through his achievements and actions. During the game you can take a side during the Civil war to put an end to it, the Stormcloaks, who are basicaly Northern Rednecks that hate Elves, or the Imperials who have wet noodles for Spines and are at the orders of the Thalmors... Then you have the various Daedric Princes( Demon Gods) with each their quests you can make for them, various factions quests (the Companions, who are a Warrior/mercenary guild, but each of their Core members are actually Werewolves, so you can become one) the Harkon's court Vampire Lords( whom you can also join and turn yourself into a Vampire lord), the Academy of Winterhold, wich is a Magic's Academy, the Thieves Guild of Riften and the Dark Brotherhood, an Assassin Guild( usually they are the ones with the most interesting quests lines, at least in TES4 Oblivion) There is a L O T to do in this game, many things are obvious and easy but a lot are hidden, and need you to go aroudn and explore. There is severla hundreds of Places to visite and explore, and 300 questlines and thats not counting Radiant quests lines( wich are quest that are connected with others depending on your actions and some are repeatable) You can buy or build your own Homes, Marry someone and even adopte Kids. Or you can be a Psychotic Killer and lay waist to the ENTIRE region of Skyrim and KILL EVERYONE( only very important Quest related NPC's are tagged as "Essential" and cannot be permanently killed, or else it would fuck up the Main quest progression, and Kids are tagged as Essential, but there's mods that allows for the Essential tag to be take off... so...) And ALL THAT is before you Add mods... SKyrim( and TES games in general anyways) has one of the MOST active Modding community, they've been modding the game for the past 10 years, to the point that some mods can change the game DRASTICLY, to the point where it feels like a different game. There's over a million mods on the web for Skyrim.

One thing you need to know about The Elder Scrolls is that there's not just one linear storyline for you to follow. The big selling point of the series is that you can tell your own story. Besides the main questline there are multiple factions with their own questlines that you can join and it's all optional (including the main quest). Or you can just go dungeon crawling and ignore all the quests.

Updates don't really touch the main story, they usually give extensive side stories. For example, Skyrim's main story was about defeating the dragons and stopping the end of the world. Skyrim's first update was about player housing. You could buy a plot of land and build a home there, and adopt some kids. The second update was about overthrowing a Vampire royal family and either becoming a Vampire hunter and killing them all, or becoming a Vampire yourself and becoming the new leader. The 3rd had to deal with a rival Dragonborn who you had to defeat.

Not sure about the first 3 but 4 takes place about 200 years before Skyrim. Spoilers for Elder Scrolls 4 & 5 ahead! In that one, a Deadric (Demon) Prince tries to conquer the world by having his goons assassinate the Emperor (voiced by Patrick Stewart). The player then finds his bastard son (played by Sean Bean) and after stopping some Oblivion Gates (portals to hell) eventually stop the Denon lord. In doing so, the bastard son sacrifice himself and leaves the empire without an heir. 200 years later, the empire is falling apart a little and civil war is being waged in the region of Skyrim. Then Dragons come back from out of nowhere and the player stops the dragons, led by Alduin from ending the world. The story kinda ends here but according to the game world's lore, the Dragonborn (player) is theoretically the heir to the empire. Games like Skyrim are pretty unique. They essentially build a massive world, complete with rich lore and history, fill it with stories and then make a grand main plotline to it. You're free to explore and do whatever, or can follow the plotline. Many community members then make mods, smaller pieces of software than add to, or alter the game. One might add new weapons, another adds hypothermia and gameplay around that, others are new stories to be explored. Some are well fitted in the world, others less so... Like changing all dragons to massive Thomas The Tank-Engine...... Music is by Jeremy Soule. A great composer, a less awesome human being. Another series I can recommend is the Guild Wars franchise. Begin with the cinematic trailer for Guild Wars 1 (Prophecies), then Factions. Then the trailers for Nightfall and Eye of the North. Finish up with the reveal then Gamescom trailers for Guild Wars 2! You like that, there's plenty more from GW2 to watch, including trailers for End of Dragons, an expansion releasing next year! That one will go back to the region from Factions, several hundred years later! :)

The idea with Skyrim and mainly the protagonist, the dragonborne are a human born with the blood of a dragon. In the elder scrolls, dragons are the sons of one of the gods, mainly the god of time. Dragons are immortal, they can be killed, but they don't stay dead. The only way to fully kill a dragon is for a dragonborne to consume their soul, which in doing so makes it so the dragon can't come back from the dead. The dragonborne are also able to fluently speak in the language of dragons, even if they had never heard or spoke the language before, it's in their blood. It also allows them to "Shout", not shouting in the sense of talking really loud and with force, but to project ones voice as a weapon, using the magic in certain words in the dragon language and speaking them in a way that effects the word around you. Non-dragonborne people can learn how to shout as well, but it can take years and years just to learn the most simple of words, while a dragonborne is a natural at shouting. To learn a shout, one must truly understand the meaning of a word and to "absorb" that knowledge into yourself. For example, there is a shout you learn in Skyrim that let me you basically breathe fire, and do to so, one of the words in the shout (a full shout has 3 words) is "Fire" and you are told that must really, fundamentally understand what Fire means. Also remember that in the elder scrolls there is a LOT of magic and most of this is based on magic

The thing about a game is you can keep adding in more and more story and it just works because players can choose how much story to consume. They can just do the main storyline and skip the extra stuff, or delve into everything. I guess it's a bit like how shows or movies might have spinoffs, but in a game it's often all mixed in with the main part of the game. Usually games identify what's main story and what's not in a quest journal so you can decide how to prioritize.

Long story super short, basically yes the dragons are kind of "evil" in a sense. Early man was enslaved by the dragons basically, and then one day a human hero with the soul of a dragon was born, able to speak their words and absorb the powers of fallen dragons, and they eventually freed their people. And dragons breathing fire, frost, ect., etc., is just what happens to the world when a dragon chooses to talk, so in Elder Scrolls' universe two or more dragons shooting fireballs and whatnot at each other is literally just them talking to one another. So the dragonborn being able to speak in the dragon language is literally just them yelling dragons out of the sky/to death. There's a whole bunch of stuff I skipped over but that's the basic gist of it.

Dragons weren't 'bad' per se. Shprt versiom, a long time ago, they ruled skyrim, and they appointed certain people to basically rule their empire for them. These 'dragon preists' would collect tribute and basically run the entire empire, but they got greedy, and one day the people turned on the dragon preists, this forced the dragons to get involved and so the dragon war began. Skip forward to now and the dragon leader, Alduin, was never actually killed - because he couldn't be. Instead he was forced foward in time - and now he had just come back. and he has the power to revive his long dead buddies and keep fighting the war everyone thought was over. The player is a 'dragonborn'. A very rare bloodline - and since dragons were thought extinct, nobody, not even you knew this. A mortal being born with the soul of a dragon. They have the ability to devour dragon souls and put a dragon down permanently, but since there were no dragons around it is only after killing a dragon that it shows. And thats the basic premise of the game. You, the dragon soul eater, must kill the immortal alduin.

The Elder Scrolls games do build on each other, but not always in a direct way. Events from Arena and Daggerfall are mentioned in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, though usually as bits of lore, rather than key to the storyline itself. Oblivion is the exception, as the central plot of that game, the Oblivion Crisis, is mentioned several times in Skyrim, and that event, as well as subsequent ones, set up the world of Skyrim.

All Elder Scroll Games build on each other. The third part (on PC) was "game of the year" (2002 if I recall correctly). It is called TES Morrowind. Morrowind is one of the provinces of the continent Tamriel. TES IV is called Oblivion - It took place in the province Cyrodiil. In the fifth part we learn to know ice and mountains of the province Skyrim. There are many other provinces future games may take place. But TES ONLINE (Skyrim and such) is something different than Skyrim. The badass Assassin you were referencing is from an >online< version of "The Elder Scrolls".

The lore of the Elder Scrolls history is really interestingly made. There are in-game explanations for real events, but not in a "breaking the fourth wall" sort of way. They explain how your character can load and save their game and they explain how a sequel can be made that follows the ending of the previous game, regardless of which ending the player decided on. A god-like character in TES III Morrowind (the best Elder Scrolls by a country mile) refuses to fight the player, because they know the player can keep reloading the game and trying again until they eventually win.

Omg Skyrim yes! So thanks for reacting to my favorite rpg series of all time, the Elder Scrolls, which Id dare say is one of the greatest and most complicated/lore-rich fictional universes ever created, even more than classics like Lord of the Rings or greats like Game of Thrones. Skyrim is the 5th main game installment in the elder scrolls series and the newest in terms of the story timeline. I would definitely check out trailers/videos for the other four main games (Arena, Daggerfall, and especially Morrowind and Oblivion) as theyre absolutely amazing works! And on top of that I would check out two books written by Greg Keyes called "The Lord of Souls" and "The Infernal City" based on the elder scrolls videogames, which are set in the elder scrolls universe between the events of Oblivion and Skyrim. These books are fucking phenomenal works of fictional literature and deserve a good read through!

Great game. There are more than 50,000 mods that have been created for Skyrim, on PC, since its release. They kind of do tie together. The events of TES 3 Morrowind, would eventually result in the destruction of much of Morrowind. Many of the Dunmer became refugees in 4E 5 also known as the Red Year. If you use the vanilla start, and your character is a Dunmer, Hadvar will say. "Another refugee, Gods have really abandoned your people Dark Elf. He has a different line based on which of the 10 races your character is. Skyrim is set in 4E 201. 201 years after the events of TES4 Oblivion. The events of Oblivion, and the years in between Oblivion & Skyrim were devastating to the Empire. Once it controlled all 9 provinces of Tamriel, now it only controls 3. Skyrim is set almost entirely in one of those 3 remaining provinces.

Concerning adding stories, think of it like publishing a short story in the same universe with the same main character. What happened in that timeskip in the main story; what happened after the finale; an origin story etc. Yes it can dilute the focus of the main story but games are necessarily less focused than books because the more agency you give the player the less influence you have on the pacing of the story as a writer. The player might just decide to go plucking flowers for a few hours during your meticulously crafted finale. In Skyrim especially the world is the focus the story is secondary. I have more hours than I would like to admit in that game and I finished the main story once … the rest of the time I just explored, build a house, joined the factions and worked for them, adopted an orphan or just tried to find the most remote and silly places to park my demonhorse.

One game you are familiar with used DLC to basically insert a new chapter into the middle of the base game: Deus Ex - Human Revolution. The original release of the game had a few days gap in the timeline of the main character, that they later filled with a chapter that works as an independent short story or part of the original story. Infact the later re-release of the game integrated the additional story to the main game. This is not the norm, but that is one way of adding new content. Some games just continue the story where the main game left it off. You can also add a new playable character to your game and give a new perspective to the same story you originally had going, so players would start the game from the beginning and replay it and have a new experience. Those are just some of the ways you can add new story to your game. Other people have commented on other types of content can be added to games, and you saw examples of things that can be added to these sort of open world games in the anniversary trailer.

7:34 That is side stories, skyrim is a sandbox rpg that doesn't have any strict borders so developers can add anything they want, even players create modifications that add stories in the game.

Ok, I know it's, like, a 50+ minutes video so it's probably unfeasible for a video, but the video "I beat Skyrim in VR with 500+ Mods" by Slimecicle perfectly captures the true skyrim experience while also presenting a cohesive and engaging story even if you know nothing about previous elder scrolls lore, skyrim as a game, or Dragon Ball. I suggest you watch it if you're confused, that way you'll get even more confused, but in an entertained way.

Hi Hanna, I can tell you after playing this game over tens times with different races: Nord (viking), Khaljit (catfolk), Lizardfolk (I forgot what skyrim version called) and Redguard (Moors like people in Skyrim). Tenth anniversery of this game, I have to say is director's cut and new styles due to this game being on everything (consoles and PC)- I mean everything. New gamplay mechanics, more stories to link to Elder scrolls 6 and things like that (its called expansion). I haven't played this since last play through which was 2013. Story is about being last of your kind "dragonborn" and discover this so called power called shout or dragon language grants your powers and only to expand your powers is to kill dragons that support Alduin's evil plan cause there is a dragon that help PC and you get to ride it; that was best part of the game. Also a war going ahead during all this exploring. Legend being told in Skyrim that great Dragonborn came down and defeated the evil dragon Alduin saved the land from ruthless control and evil intention of killing all humans or something like that. I can't remember. Daedra like old gods in Elder scrolls. Discover these mask given from Daedra trickster gods that grant you abilities in your quest being a legend reborn to save Skyrim. That's all I can tell you.

Recently got reminded that this video exists, and wanted to drop a suggestion for you, since you seemed to enjoy some aspects of Skyrim. I suggest you watch the trailers for an earlier installment in the series, TES III: Morrowind. It was released in '01/'02, so the graphics may be a bit crunchy. But yo u should also check out the Skywind videos alongside it. Skywind is a fan-made recreation of Morrowind in the Skyrim engine, and is an absolute love letter to the third game in the main series. The dev videos really go to show how much love people have for a series like The Elder Scrolls.

Now, I'm getting Anniversary Edition for free because I have Special Edition. I'm so. Damn. HAPPY. Free stuff is always the best!

_The Elder Scrolls_ is a long-running series of single-player games, which are all set in the same fantasy world, but in different locations and time periods. You have previously watched a trailer for _Elder Scrolls Online_ which is an online multi-player game set in that same world, but developed under license by a different game studio owned by the same publisher as the game studio that created the single-player games. _ESO_ is set far back in history before the other games, during a time when three large alliances fought each other for domination of the continent _and_ had to contend with various monsters and a demonic invasion that was going on at the same time as their civil war. In gamer parlance, the various multi-step tasks you have to accomplish in a Role-Playing Game are generally called "quests", especially if the game is fantasy-themed like _The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim._ Games with a more modern or futuristic setting often also call them "Missions", borrowing the military term. Games usually have a "Main Quest" that represents the path to your overarching goal in the game (e.g. saving the world or defeating some evil dude). "Side Quests" are optional, shorter adventures that you can have "on the side", either in parallel with the main quest, or in-between the various stages of it. They are generally not directly connected to the main quest, but solving them _may_ indirectly benefit you during the main quest by giving you experience, resources, or allies that benefit you generally, and thus make accomplishing the main quest easier. Sometimes smaller quests that are required to advance in the main quest but don't actually contribute to achieving your goal in themselves are also called "side quests", although they should really be called something like "sub-quests". It's usually something like, "Yes, I have the MacGuffin you need, but before I give it to you, you must go into the wilderness and slay 50 trolls. I'll just stand here, waiting to hand you the MacGuffin in exchange for 50 troll butts." Any quest, both main and side, may consist of a linear series of steps to be taken in order (1. Get magic sword, 2. Kill big monster, 3. ???, 4. Profit!!!) _or_ it may offer several different paths to achieving a set objective. For example, if your current task is to acquire the magic vorpal sword from some guy who has it on display in his mansion, then the game may let you choose whether you want to sneak in and silently steal the blade, _or_ kick in the door, murder everybody, and run off with the blade, _or_ walk up to the guy and convince him to _sell_ you the blade. You may also be able to switch approaches on the fly, such as when you get caught sneaking in and seamlessly move on to the "murder everyone" approach (though usually a character who is well suited to the cat-burglar route does _not_ fare well trying the hack-and-slash route). Additionally, any quest may have a set of non-linear objectives that you can tackle in any order, such as "Beat these three enemies that are in three different locations" or "Recruit these five team members" or "Collect the seven pieces of the magical MacGuffin". Once all of these objectives are checked off, in whichever order you chose, you advance to the next stage of the quest. Tabletop (or "Pen and paper") role-playing games can take multiple all-evening gaming sessions to get through a single adventure. This _Skyrim_ themed game looks like a mix between a traditional board game and a role-playing game, and appears quite complex for a board game. When game add-ons talk about "new story" they mean _additional_ story, like adding a new chapter to the second edition of a book that takes place after, in-between, or even concurrently to the existing chapters from the first edition. It might also entail slight editing of the existing chapters to make the new one fit in seamlessly - e.g. referencing the events of an inserted chapter in a conversation that happens in a later first-edition chapter. The _10th Anniversary Edition_ trailer talks a lot about "Creations". This is a term specific to Bethesda Game Studios, referring to their "Creation Club". You have heard the term "DLC" (Downloadable Content) for purchasable game add-ons, I'm sure. Well, fans of many games have used the mechanisms for adding official DLC into games to add their _own,_ fan-made content into games, usually referred to as "mods". Some of those mods are very silly, and others are absolutely amazing labours of love; some fix common annoyances players have in the game, and others add depth and texture to stories and characters that are already in the game. The games by Bethesda have been _very_ well-suited to modding easily, and Bethesda have long encouraged the modders in their efforts. Well, the parent company of Bethesda Game Studios inevitably asked, "How can we squeeze _MONEY_ out of this?" and after a universally-hated attempt at monetising mods via the Steam marketplace, they came up with the "Creation Club" which takes the kind of small-scale projects that modders typically produce, gives them the "officially supported" stamp of approval, and sells them for real money to players who can't or won't use the free mods.

Ok, I didn't see much in the way of lore and world building. So, as a writer yourself, I'll endeavor to try and explain more or less the history of the Elder Scrolls from my own memory. There are many lore videos you can also check out, though they tend to be drawn out and dry. First, to make the bad words not hurt your head so much, here is a breakdown of them all :P : There are 3 major races: Humans, Elves and Beastials. Humans: Imperials - The charismatic and diplomatic race of Humans who used their...*cough* "Diplomacy" to conquer most of the world. Red Gaurd - A combo between Africans and Arabians. Tough as nails and expert fighters. Their home was found when a literal Nuke of a hammer traveled across the sky and slammed into the ground. Bretons - The British people of Elder Scrolls. Half Elf and Half Human, they are good at magic and bad at being humble. They also have paladins, Knights who use healing magic. Nords - Vikings. Just Vikings. They were some of the very first Humans to come to the main lands from the far north. They came and they kicked Elf butt to establish dominance in Skyrim. Elves: Altmer - Basic high fantasy Elves. Full of themselves, believing the sun and moon revolves around them. Also known as High Elves. Aeylid - Off shoot of High Elves. Known as the Heartland High Elves, they enslaved Humans for donkeys years, before they fought back. Now they are a distant memory and their shiny castles are in ruin. Dunmer - Dark Elves, violent and deceitful, they openly worship entities that resemble demons (though not exactly). Their super massive volcano exploded and now half their home land is in perpetual toxic fumes. The plants and animals there are also whack AF. Orsimer - Orcs! Can you believe it, in Elder Scrolls Orcs are Elves. They're not inherently evil, but they are aggressive by nature. They used to be High Elves who followed a noble Elf god. Then the noble elf god got eaten by a scary demon thing and pooped out. Now they all butt ugly. Beastials: Argonian - Lizard people who can breath under water. They come from a Swamp called Black marsh and drink magic sap from a magic tree that makes you trip balls. Khazeet - Cat people of all shapes and sizes. Literally. When a Khajeet is born, it depends on the arrangement of the two moons in Elder Scrolls. They can end up being a normal housecat, but intelligent and unable to talk, or a normal Bipedal Khajeet who looks more Humanoid or an enormous Panther tank that's 8 feet tall. There is a TONNE of cool backstory you can check out, especially Morrowind. Morrowind has the coolest story plot. Look it up.

A quest is a story line/task You have main quest, a long series of tadks, this is the story of the game some games are more linear than others. And you have side quest, shorter chains of tasks that aren't necessary to complete the game but give extra rewards and context or just jokes Think of the main quest as a book series and the side quests as a collection of short stories in the same universe

Basically what most DLC does is that it adds an optional side story with new characters and scenarios. Basically you can think of it as like a spinoff book with the same main character. Some times it does change the main story like in fallout 3 and yes, sometimes they fuck it up bad lol. Some times they also add depth to the world like in fallout new Vegas that directly correlates to the main events.

About eating souls of dragons... There's a thing in Norse mythology about hunt and links between ppl and animals. Skyrim is land on.. well.. Northern peoples, mostly Nords. (Which are basically Vikings) It's more like inheriting powers of the fallen in battle, thus continuing his path. There is something in this.

The quest of the Dragonborn is no ordinary quest. Also that was not a snake that was an Argonian. A reptilian species of people from the south of Tamriel(Tamriel is a large continent on a world known as Nirn)in an area known as Black Marsh. I've been watching a couple of your videos over the last couple days and I absolutely love watching you react to all of these video games you've never even heard of. I love reading and probably would enjoy writing and playing these games sometimes makes me feel like my imagination mite be less if I had not played them. I found your channel a few days ago. It was a video of you reacting to the warframe trailers. Another game I've played for a long time probably almost as much as I've played elder scrolls games. I think I saw in one of your videos that you don't play. I think just from watching how much you enjoy or seem to enjoy the trailers you need pick a platform (pc,Playstation,Xbox ect..) and try some of them out for yourself. Warframe mite be a game to try out with a friend that already knows the game or possibly find someone in game to be a warframe friend lol. Skyrim is going into its 11th year now but I think people will be playing it 15-20 years down the road like some still play super Mario bros. When skyrim came out I was one of those people that always had to buy a guide for their games if for nothing else but a keepsake.. Skyrim's guide is like three and a half inches think.. like a textbook for college lol. Not necessary though. KZread is thing more now lol. You should definitely give it a try.

Basically every Elder Scrolls game is not tied to another one. They are different stories within the same universe. Most of them focus on different areas of the fictional world. Explaining the lore succinctly and understandably for someone who has no idea what it is would be the equivalent of trying to explain quantum physics to a three-year-old.

So when it comes to dragons in the Elder Scrolls games they aren't necessarily "bad" creatures, they simple have an Instinctive urge to conquer it's simply in their nature to do so. As for the absorption of dragon souls by the dovahkiin it is the only way to give a dragon a true death as dragons killed by mere men don't die they simple are reborn later in time. Dragons themselves can also absorb their slain brothers souls if they killed them which increases the dragons power.

Additional story content in games, from updates or DLCs, is kind of like expanded universe books in book series. They tell other stories about characters, sometimes relevant to the main story, sometimes something completely new and different. Ocassionally you'll get DLC additions that impact the main storyline itself, changing how it flows or giving new endings, but those are less common. A slightly more common DLC type is a mini-sequel, or an epilogue. The easiest way to look at it - especially with big open RPGs like Skyrim - is the main game isn't a single book, but a series of books, or movies, with each different questline it's own volume and each new DLC another volume in the series. As for the question of if I ever wish they hadn't added something.... Yes. A big, fat, resounding yes. The Leviathan DLC in Mass Effect 3 is liked by many but I absolutely *despise* it. It's fun from a game play perspective but I feel like the lore it adds is detrimental to the universe of the games. It was just the final nail in the coffin in the death of the Reapers - the big bads of the franchise - as anything remotely interesting as a concept. It was everything I hated about ME3's plot distilled into one adventure.
