Non-Endless High Score Record (Seeded Balatro, Ghost Deck)

Ойындар

Seed: I87BKXRP
ko-fi.com/drspectred
High Ante and High Score Playlist: • Balatro Science
At the time of recording, this is the world record for the highest score in non-endless mode. This is a seeded run on Ghost Deck, exploiting the ability of Perkeo to copy Spectral Cards. By playing on Black Stake, we get access to Eternal Jokers which do not get destroyed when you repeatedly use Ankh.

For folks asking about the routing: I worked on this, by myself, for about a week. I was working on other things at the same time, so this took me a couple hours every day, up to maybe 20 hours total. And the routing itself is not very "high tech." Really just a bunch of trial and error. Each Ante starts with a "scouting phase" in which I try to spend as much money as possible to see as much stuff as possible (Booster contents and the shop queue). Once I know what's available/possible, I decide what actions to take and then move onto the next Ante.

@@serbianbossman I answered this elsewhere, but it's for the memes, basically. 5's would score about twice as much compared to 2's, but e117 is close enough to the same as e116. Sock and Buskin, instead of Hack, for retriggered Face Cards is also possible. I wasn't necessarily going for the highest score, just a high enough score.

Chips went from 160 base to 280 at the end of scoring -> 60 triggers. Using Kings, the score would be 760 chips, equating to another ~2,7x mult. Total would come out to 1,72e117 - more, but very small relatively speaking.

Like if you knew what everything would do before you did it because theoretically you could if you spent enough time... it's just the decision space is astronomically large. I mean don't get me wrong, it can be interesting to watch an unhinged play when you do know what's going to happen, but it turns something that is akin to problem solving into just an optimization puzzle. And I use the term puzzle loosely as it has more to do with scanning through the possible decisions vs solving something that's designed. Like I dunno the other skill set that it feels like is used is just persistence.

Hard agree on seeded and unseeded being very different skills. In unseeded, when you don't know what's coming but you can express skill by knowing what you *could* get and play to your outs for the best, most likely outcomes. But with seed scouting you have to have a serious amount of dedication to know that rolling 90 times in a certain ante will get you a certain joker. This is the first non-endless highscore i'm watching and i'm blown away by how much planning you had to do

This might be a terrible idea, but I would like to see you going through the process of routing a seed. What information you track, what you're looking for, etc. When you're describing rerolling the shop thirty or ninety times to find the jokers you want... something about that appeals to me to see it be discovered. Obviously routing the whole thing might be impractical to record, but the first few antes would help us learn how to do it ourselves.

So in theory, when getting more than one unneeded consumable, correctly picking which one to sell will end up changing which other consumables get copied by Perkeo, is that correct?

It's so refreshing seeing things and then going ohhh that's how you achieve that, ahhh that's what that does :) the issue of whether this is as good as someone who plays unseeded is mute because you are doing something very different that takes far longer and to work decks out by trail and error takes dedication and skill because you need all the knowledge of everything and then translate it into the best deck and scoring as you can, i mean just the management of the consumables to achieve outcomes is just a thing of beauty if you are a nerd like me. Learning that if you buy the discount it will reduce your temperance income is such a well I haven't been paying attention while playing have I lol.

Seeded runs are still very impressive. It's similar to routing out a speedrun, there's a lot of fun in that. Is there a seed parser or gamelog that you can use to figure out the rng of the run, or did you do this via trial and error? I'm also curious, what affects rng in this game? Can your rng manipulate future shops, or card orders by playing different hands in previous blinds in the same ante (or different ante even)? Does rerolling shops affect card order as well as the shop queue for that ante? I'd love to know if there's a list that describes this somewhere.

For seeded vs unseeded skills, I see it as TAS creators vs regular speedrunners. First knows ins and outs of the game, the code, the very fabric of the game, and can create mesmerizing things over time studying. While the latter doesn't know the game quite as well, but has better quick time decision making and execution

I did Polychrome 2 for the memes. Poly 5 gets you roughly twice as many points, but e117 is about the same as e116. Eternal Buskin is also possible for Face Cards instead of Hack for low cards.

love it!!! i have some questions - in the last round: wouldn't you be able to target the jokers effected by ank and ectoplasm by repositioning your jokers or is this completely random every time? - same question with the targeting of perkeo - does judgement "use up" a joker from the shop or is it a different queue? same with the priestess and celestial packs? - how does the showman really work? does it change every card after buying it or is there a hidden predefined order of cards with duplicates in it, that will be rerolled if you don't have a showman?

When you picked up your eternal brainstorm would it not have been better to sell one of the perkeos? It would have given you an additional trigger on seltzer net neutraled on consumables and because your 2 is polycrome you would actually gain in score because you get 2 extra x1.5 vs the single 1.5 off of poly perkeo

Each increase in the last card's rank would add 55 chips to the final score; so if it were: 5: you'd end on 445 chips instead of 280, 10.08e117 4: 8.83e116 3: 7.59e116 It's not substantial, but it's also not *nothing*

how does the procedural randomness in balatro work, the standard packs in particular? Does opening standard packs change the content of other standard packs? Do they get blocked if there is a playing card that would appear in the pack in the shop? also: 27:55 - "We want to maximize the chance that perkeo gives us immolate." Can the consumable that gets copied be manipulated?

  • @ste1l1

    @ste1l1

It picks a random consumable. So if you have 4 copies of card A and 1 copy of card B, it's a 80% chance Perkeo gives you a new copy of card A.

This was recorded on version 1.0.0n. As of 1.0.1, the first shop (of every run) has a Buffoon Pack. Also, there were changes to some Jokers' rarities, so you will get completely different Jokers when playing on old seeds.

Seeded runs are cool, but in a "fucking around and pushing limits" sense. Like a TAS. If the game gave me save states and I knew how the game handles rng, I MIGHT consider giving it a shot, but as it is its a little too slow of a process for me to even consider trying. That DOES bring up something I'm curious about now. How does Balatro handle RNG? How often do player actions cause "splits" in the timeline, and do they splits ever merge back together (eg the ante 1 boss shop is always the same no matter what you do in the prior shops), or do runs of the same seed careen in entirely different directions at every opportunity to make a different choice? I'm curious what the process of mapping out a seed looks like.
