Non-destructive cutout effect in Affinity Designer | Tutorial

In this tutorial I’ll be demonstrating a simple and non-destructive way to create a cutout text effect where the text is represented by negative space, allowing the background to show through.
Typically, you would think to use something like Boolean operations, or the Shape Builder. However, this can be accomplished in a non-destructive way using blend modes.

Actually, a better way would have been to: 1. Select both the text and rectangle 2. Press Ctrl + Alt ( Gives a Coumpound Shape ) 3. Make sure text is above rectangle 4. Change the text to Subtract by clicking the shape on the left 5. Make sure the Rectangle is set to Add This does have it's drawbacks as it won't use any non vector effects that are applied to the text, but it will allow you to use the final shape (The compund) as a vector (You could use the contour tool etc.) Still cool though :)
