Amazing effort with this tank and beautiful choice of fish, well done. The composition came together when you added the rocks beneath the overhanging driftwood, to mirror its shape and shadow. Not sure about the 'dirted' element of the tank, as if one was too accidentally disturb the sand too much it may ruin the aesthetics and nutritional balance of the tank altogether. Stunning work Jay!

Haha thank you do much! I get leaching from using potting mix but not from top soil. I wanted to use mainly topsoil for this tank but didn't bake enough so I through in the potting mix. The osmocote plus takes a long time to break down. It's supposed to last a solid 6-8 months according to the Scott's website. Use sand as a cap instead of gravel to minimize leaching it really helps! Thank you so much!

@@ThePlantedTankTV I was thinking about putting root tabs and osmocote plus pellets in the bottom of my tank and putting a few inches of pool filter sand on top and trying to grow plants in it... I know the plants probably wouldnt thrive but do you think they would do okay and grow?
