Absolutely beautiful !
Amazing effort with this tank and beautiful choice of fish, well done. The composition came together when you added the rocks beneath the overhanging driftwood, to mirror its shape and shadow. Not sure about the 'dirted' element of the tank, as if one was too accidentally disturb the sand too much it may ruin the aesthetics and nutritional balance of the tank altogether. Stunning work Jay!

Excellent! This is pretty similar to how I set up dirted tanks. However, I don't add root tabs and mix manure into the dirt mix. You can also add bi-carb if you have soft water. You will never need to fertilize the water column.

Great setup! I have something similar and this is giving me some inspiration. What did you put for the back of the tank that looks “misted”?
Great looking set-up. Looks like it lends itself to have to outflow pipe on the other side ? Beautiful tank good job.
@ThePlantedTankTV
4 жыл бұрын
I want the flow to push everything to the right while not pushing the plants around too much. Plus its literally right up against the wall so my filter won't fit there. It's on the outside of the cabinet so I can put the pipes on the side instead of seeing them come up the back. Lots of reason for where they are. Haha
Lovely ..is that golden pennywort> I just purchased a plant from Bunnings (hardware, plants) store but it’s a pond plant and hasn’t been grown as submersible, I’m still hoping it works out ok in my tank. I’m going to try attaching it to a small piece of spider wood that will serve as an add on to my large branch type piece and look as though it’s all one. Let you know how it goes.
Amazing set up but what if you wanted to uproot some plants. Wouldnt dirt came out ? Thats my only concern about dirted tanks.
What sand are you using? Is it standard Pool Sand rinsed through? Tanks are awesome and going ot make a Beta Sorority in this type of tank.
my friend, do you fertilize your tanks with the water column? Regards
Jay you make everything looks so easy. Beautiful scape. Do you get any leaching of excessive nutrients from the soil and the osmocote? I am always worried about that.
@ThePlantedTankTV
4 жыл бұрын
Haha thank you do much! I get leaching from using potting mix but not from top soil. I wanted to use mainly topsoil for this tank but didn't bake enough so I through in the potting mix. The osmocote plus takes a long time to break down. It's supposed to last a solid 6-8 months according to the Scott's website. Use sand as a cap instead of gravel to minimize leaching it really helps! Thank you so much!

@@ThePlantedTankTV would a 25 pound bag of sand be enough to do that to a 29 gallon? Would Kellogg Garden Organics natural organic raised bed and potting mix be ok for this? Would the Osmocote affect the fish? Instead of Seachem Flourish root tabs, would Aquarium Co-op's easy green root tabs do just as well or better?
Should I use osmocote and seachem root tans if I am using only miracle grow potting mix? Or is this too much nutrients?
Hey Jay, just need to know... Are you seeing growth in your plants? I purchased this light and was wondering whether this gives off enough of a PAR value for low-light plants?
5:15, what does the glass pipe do? Beautiful tanks ❤️
I’ve been researching and looking into doing my very first aquarium. A 29 gallon is perfect size for my space. I wanna do a betta planted tank with non aggressive non fin nipping fish to later go in with it. I want something that looks nice and is very low tech and low maintenance. Is this a good way to go? Anything helps! Thank you.
I used normal potting soil on my 55 gallon and it worked no fish died fish and were breeding. But I did have to put it in a tub with water to separate that wood and the styrofoam. Had some loss with soil but was free for me

This was beautiful!!! This tank is amazing. First video I’ve watched from you and I fell in love. I have a pretty small 10gal tank as of now but I’ll be getting a 30gal in a few days. I’ve always been very into planted aquariums so I wanna give the plants in this new one a good start. What kind of soil would you recommend? I live in Mexico so my options are incredibly limited or what other tips do you have for a successful planted aquarium? Thank you in advance!

@@ThePlantedTankTV so its just for convenience when filling ? Could you just put a plate down in the tank when filling to not stir it up? @@curtismurphy7792 No I mean the dirt floats. Like you HAVE to put the sand or your tanks water will be completely dark and never clear up. The sand is to hold down the dirt.
