Nokia N8 in 2022 | Nostalgia and Features Rediscovered!

Ғылым және технология

PURCHASE LINKS BELOW:
In this video, I rediscover the features, magic and nostalgia of the Nokia N8 released back in 2010. The Nokia N8 was the first Nokia flagship running on Symbian^3 and featuring a magnificent 12 megapixel camera with xenon flash. It was later updated to symbian anna and then symbian belle which was so feature-packed. This video discovered the hardware and software features and innovations on the Nokia N8 as well as showcase it next to the new Nokia X20. N series lives in our hearts!

Nokia was so much ahead of its time. The designs still look more than modern and futuristic, and everytime I use that Symbian, which is pretty much a 2011 OS, feels really modern, especially comparing it to the OS back then, but it still holds up today, in many aspects even better than modern OS. (Except of course the lack of any support nowadays). I always imagine how far Symbian could be, if Nokia went on developing it further!

This was the very first device ever that brought photography revolution to the Smartphone world, because prior to this device, smartphones came with cameras equipped in them but they used to be just about very average in quality but when the N8 arrived, it took out the market by storm, hence bringing Smartphone photography to the main stream. I had this phone for a couple of years. A few things to add: The camera had a mechanical shutter and a two stage camera button (as is tradition) There were two ways to charge it. USB and the legacy Nokia pin charger Beside the USB host it also supported keyboard and mouse. So you can go desktop mode with HDMI out. The OS would multi task the sound so you can listen to a podcast at the same time with music. if you want. The screen was AMOLED and had a customizable always on screen. You can put your own picture to always display when phone is idle.

What I love about this particular Nokia smartphone is that Nokia built a 12MP camera sensor with 1/1.83" and 1.75 micron pixel in 2010! Sony took exactly one DECADE later to create a modern day interpretation of such sensor with the IMX 555 for non-Ultra flagship Samsung Galaxy models and IMX 557 for flagship Sony Xperias. It does really show just how totally ahead of the times Nokia were used to be.

What I love about the phone is how many cool hardware features and I/O ports/slots it has, like a xenon flash with autofocus light, a ring illuminated home button, a charging light, two-stage shutter button, and a spring-loaded lock/unlock switch. OOOOH Another excellent phone from Nokia! Like the N95 8Gb I had, I simply LOVED IT... That camera was absolutely fantastic! I mean the Zenon flash was a great touch too. When I switched from the N95 to the N8, my 'everyday carry' was the phone and a 32Gb USB memstick... My Ex Gf had the gold, but... I went black... Yeah, like you said, a little buggy at first, but after some updates it was great. Browser wise yeah I agree, so I used Opera... I was tempted though to go the physical keyboard version the E7.. And REALLY WOULD love to see a modern version of the E7 (having briefly had time with a BlackBerry Torch 9810 since). Nokia slide mechanisms on all their phones were always solid, stable, reliable and just sooo pleasing to use... I said this a few times on your other videos of great Nokia phone reviews... "Damn.... Ya , I too had this phone in silver colour, bought it in 2011, its lacked ram and storage, was slow, but the rear camera was just amazing, equivalent to flagships of 2018 and still better than some of the mid range smartphones and budget phone cameras. It had corning gorilla glass 1, just imagine. It had a shutter for camera. Wow just like S10. Nokia was doing great but because of its so many wrong steps it died.

My only struggle with this unit is the SIM slot. Since we are using nano size today, and you use an extender to put a SIM on the N8, theres a BIG possibility that your SIM might get stuck, and would result to breaking the mechanism inside if forced. I still have my complete N8 today, along with my 808, and other phones for keeps.

Would be great if HMD Global resurrected the N Series for their flagship line, since they changed their naming schemes to 1 letter and 2 numbers. I really do miss Nokia Flagship phones. Great review btw 👌

HMD Global has really come up short with everything Nokia. They could bring back new Lumia phones, N series etc. There's a lot they could do but aren't. So many loyal global customers itching to buy something from them thst has that old spark.

That's so much nostalgic to me, back in 2011 when I was in my last year of high school, I went with my older brother to buy new phones, so I purchased N8 and he purchased E7 (It was more expensive XD), I remember how we were the cool kids and we constantly were exchanging phones between us, I really liked E7 more although it has more issues, we were using a lot of backed roms, anyways, I currently have iPhone 12 Pro max, while my brother have Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, but both of them became lame devices and we do less on them in comparison to what we used to do with Nokias

This video brings back my old memories, this was my last Nokia phone, coming from N82, I wanted the xenon flash badly and N8 got that, till the advent of night mode there was literally no contender for the night shots of subjects taken on these phones.
