I been a mechanic for over 40 years and you need to resurface the rotors on a brake pad change . I did a test to others to prove my point. I took a 2014 Cruze and pads were almost worn out and rotor still looked new. I checked the runout on the rotor and one side was 5 thousandth and the other side was 8 thousandth, then changed only the pads and let’s my doubters drive the car. Everyone of them said they felt a vibration or shutter when they braked. I removed the rotors and had them turned at an auto parts store and got new brake pads and let my doubters drive the car again! They drove the car again and were blown away how the turned rotors produced no vibration or shutter in the steering wheel!
Nice video man, I had my own assumptions with my 1998 Saab 900. Just heard the chirping noise when I was rolling in first gear. Lifted my front end and shook the tires and checked my cv boots. No play in the bearing and the axles were still in great shape. The pads are probably at 60% and the rotors are in decent shape. I had never considered the glazing of the rotor to create an audible chirping noise. I just got the vehicle and it's at about 70k miles with pretty much all OEM parts. I almost made a rookie mistake and loaded the parts cannon. Thanks dude
Thank you...thought my bearings had gone....but it sounded exactly the same...so fingers crossed its my pads...well done mate from the uk 👍🏻
I just wish that I find an honest mechanic 😳 this video is very helpful! Thanks
Yes!!!!! This is the noise my car is making!!!! I was so worried because it doesn't make the noise when i hit the brakes, but when I'm driving.

Hi I had this same noise while driving not braking. I have replaced the brake caliper and it has stopped.
I usually don't comment below, but this is so helpful. Thank you so much!
Did not learn anything new, but well made videos with clear explanations are worth a like. Gj
I've been telling my mechanic I have been having this sound basically since my last brake change, but the sound isn't a constant, and I've never been able to actually show them the sound, because of course when I go to see them the car doesn't make it, but when I'm NOT seeing my mechanic its so loud I feel like I'm waking up half the neighborhood on my way to work. So they just say they will check it out whenever I bring my car in for something else, last time they were saying that its probably a serpentine belt, but I knooow it's something with the brakes. I am SO thankful for this video, because it's the only one that has had the exact sound I have had, as well the fact that it stops when the brake is applied. Usually a hard brake will make the sound dull or stop for a time. So at least now I can show the mechanic the sound if nothing else.

This was extremely helpful since I also have the same issue with a less extreme sound.. my brake pads were changed maybe 3,000KM ago but my rotors does seem to be a little worn but not bad. If I could email you the photo's of my Pads and Rotors to get your suggestion on what I should do if a New Rotor would be the best move
Very helpful! The noise is the same exact spot and sounds exactly the same
I’m hoping this is my issue. Noise increases when turning wheel slightly to the left or right but gone when in full turn or just idling. Bought the car today and it started this evening 😢. Didn’t do it when test driving, but brakes hadn’t warmed up yet. They did just replace rear pads and rotors. It’s so great you take the time to reply to comments even way after original post. Rotors don’t cost that much I don’t know what you mean by buttload of money depending on where you go and what car you got
this was so helpful I couldn’t figure out what was making that squeaking noise in my car
I cant do it myself where I live. I'll need to take the car in. Just started the sqeeking noise until I hit the brakes. It stopped after 4 stop signs then started back up as I pulled in. I just had a full brake job with rotars and pads 6k miles ago. Its discouraging. Thank you for letting us hear the noise and what it was. I was afraid I'd lose my breaks.
Damn this is literally exactly what I'm going through. I just had my brake pads and rotors changed a week ago, and I think it's been happening since then. I gotta go to the mechanic again I guess. Thanks for the informative video!

@@crestfall4Yes, it was due to the rust built up on the outer part of my rotors making contact with the brake shield. I bent my brake shield back a bit temporarily which seem to help. Then I swapped the rotors and pads for new ones and the noise never came back.
Finally found the sound! Lmao my front passenger tire only makes the noise when my wheel is straight, & it stops when I turn the wheel in either direction & apply the brakes. I never thought about it only happening when it gets warm. But that makes soo much sense since it seems to happen a good 10-15mins down the road.. I don't go far & barely drive anywhere I try to make one trip every week or 2 weeks.. but now I know what to tell my mechanic 😅 & living in Pennsylvania I know all about the hills lol Thank you soo much for this video every other video on youtube was a different squeak lol

@@BudgetMechanicHawaii I just finished fixing it. In the process, I also changed the brake pads. I also noticed that there was a small brake clip stuck on the caliper bracket. I think that's what misaligned the brake pad. So it kept on grinding on the rotor. Went out for an hour drive and bingo! The noise went away and still no noise at all. Thanks again
I'm going to check the hardware when i get home, I had trouble getting them in for some reason on my back right wheel, which just so happens to be the wheel I'm hearing this same noise. I'll be sure to check the pads as well

exactly the same. i changed pads 3 months ago. After the car heats up, the noise is most noticeable between 10 to 20 kilometers per hour, but it's less pronounced at high speeds. Do you know why now?
Hey Ive just had my brakes changed and today it's making that noise, any suggestions? Should I go back to the garage and have a word?
Your amazing!!! Thank you! 🙏 This was soo helpful
I brought my car to the local mechanic and my right front wheel squeaks. That was done yesterday brand new rotors and brand new very expensive brake pads. A hundred and seventy dollars worth of work. I called this morning and they're not answering the phone. I'm going to drive down there. Brand new brakes, brand new Rotors. I did not notice it until hours later when I had to take a ride somewhere . I used to do my own breaks. But now that I'm older. I do not have the facility or tools. So now I rely on mechanics. That is going to change. For 200.00 I could have bought a whole toolbox and jack stands and did it myself.
Trying to diagnose this noise. Exact issue. Thanks for the vid

Thanks so much for this so helpful I will have my pads changed
Can glaze be a defect on the pad? I got my pads a couple of months ago and they are making this same squeal/scraping noise.
What about a squeal/high pitched sound, only after up to temp, when riding the brakes? In traffic. It’s only at a certain spot when depressing the brake pedal, about mid stroke.
Almost a year ago I bought new Hyundai and it is my first car with automatic transmission (torque converter). From first day brakes squeaks when I in D or R slowly releasing brakes in order to slowly start moving, or in short moment prior to stop. They told my that this is normal for automatic transmission because in D or R car is pushing to move, so if brakes is slowly releasing but still touching wheels that cause that sound. But I can't believe that nothing can be done in this case. I ask some people and some told me that they have the same experience, with other brands too (even Mercedes and Audi), but some told me that they never had this experience with different cars with automatic transmission. Can you please tell me your experience with this, and your advice about what can be done about this? I have discs in the front and drums on the back.
this is the exact same issue i’ve been having im going to fix it next week when i dont have work!
Both my front wheel bearings were replace and this sound showed up within hours. I called the garage- don’t know whether something was over-tightened when putting it back together after bearings were changed.
I have a problem wear the clips are hitting the rotor but on my Altima the two drop tines in the middle are what’s hitting even after replacing with a fresh clip

I just got my pads changed on my car 2 weeks ago, when I drove off after pads were replaced it was making a slight noise so I didn’t think nothing of it XL here I am 2 weeks later my break sound exactly the same
So when i reverse theres this weird noise that occurs that sounds kind of like a zipper. Could that be because of the pads as well?
Great Video
I hear a similar grinding sound that seems to be coming from my front left tire, but it's only when I start driving, it goes away after a few minutes, and sometimes it doesn't do it at all. I guess I'll check the pads and go from there.

Now what if I have the same symptoms but only when they’re cold, first brake after an hour of sitting?
Okay my dad just bought a 2009 Lexus hybrid and it’s a squeaky noise but it’s as he turns any ideas?

So if I change my driver side brake pad, do I need to change the passenger side or do I just swap out that one pad?
Can I hit the like button twice!! Thanks bruh

New rotors and pads. Slow braking squeal and the brakes get hot. Both front brakes are doing it. Advice?

Lori, I think I read that if the rotors only have some wear that new brakes will fill in the grooves, if the grooves aren't too deep.
What would cause a scraping sound to occur intermittently and go away when brakes are applied?
This was just what I needed now I can tell my brother who replaced my breaks he need to go back and check to see if there are any dents somewhere as to why I’m STILL hearing the scrap sounds I hear the noises real bad when I back up and I’m not even stepping on the breaks
