Noel Gallagher - It makes me wanna cry

Музыка

I keep on running but I can't get to the mountain
Behind me lie the years that I mis-spent
And I've been sitting like a flower in the fountain
When all the love I'm gonna need is heaven sent
Gonna try my best to get there
But I can't afford the bus fare
And the storm that's rolling over
Man, it makes me wanna cry
When I was told
The streets were paved with gold
And it be known time is getting on when we were young
It's alright, if you dance with me tonight
We'll fight the dying of the light and we'll catch the sun
Woke up sleeping on a train that was bound for nowhere
The echoes that I could hear were all my own
The world had turned and I'd become a stranger
Got tired of watching all the flowers turn to stone
Gonna try my best to get there
But I can't afford the bus fare
And the storm that's rolling over
Man, it makes me wanna cry
Feel the cold against my shoulder
When it comes on the winter
And it seems to last forever
And it makes me wanna, makes me wanna cry
When I was told
The streets were paved with gold
And it be known time is getting on when we were young
It's alright, if you dance with me tonight
We'll fight the dying of the light and we'll catch the sun
Gonna try my best to get there
But I can't afford the bus fare
And the storm that's rolling over
Man, it makes me wanna cry
When I was told
The streets were paved with gold
And it be known time is getting on when we were young
It's alright, if you dance with me tonight
We'll fight the dying of the light and we'll catch the sun
And the cold against my shoulder
When it comes on the winter
Man, it makes me wanna cry
And the cold against my shoulder
And seems to last forever
And it makes me wanna cry

Don't get hung up on the chords. The guitar just lays down the rails. The lyrics and singing are the train that are driving this song. The desperate sadness is overwhelming. That's art.

@@woodebbie2042What a pleasant surprise to be reminded of an old comment that doesn't make me cringe. Since then I know Noel has released this as The Dying of the Light and I was glad to be blessed with a studio version when it came out. I started dabbling a little bit into songwriting on guitar at around 27 and in the early days this song was one of the few I'd come back to dissect - see what melodic note is sung over which chord that makes it sound so neat. Lyrics-wise I'm not sure. i've always been more of a sonics person than a lyrics person, however, as a person who was doing rather well in school I do find the slight sense of disappointment in expecting "streets paved with gold" in the future, but eventually came to terms with not expecting good stuff for free and instead creating good stuff in your life yourself. Chasing contentness rather than chasing euphoria.

I've always thought Noel/Oasis were best in with the lyrics to their songs. The music is indifferent. Sometimes clever, sometimes plagiarized, usually just good accompaniment to the meat of it, which is the phenomenally good lyrics that just grab you. Highly relatable, usually well turned. I mean, this song is hauntingly beautiful. What a gorgeous, reflective piece. Love it. Per the usual, when discussing Noel Gallagher.

Everyone banging on about the chords... Ffs!! Its the hallmark of a brilliant songwriter that noel can get such amazing songs from similar chord progressions. Whatever. Wonderwall. Stay young. If i had a gun. Dya know what i mean. All had similiar chords all fucking mega tunes. Anyone who denies that must have faulty lugholes
