Noam and I react to Aretha Franklin: A natural woman

Музыка

We react to Aretha Franklin bringing down the house at Kennedy Center in 2015, at the Tribute to Carole King. King is co-writer of the song (You make me feel like) a natural woman.

Carole King is excited because she wrote this song for Aretha and Aretha is now giving it back, singing it for Carole. Also, because Aretha is playing the piano. It was both. I remember seeing this at the time. Plus I'm old and grew up with these 2 amazing artists in that time and was very involved music back then. This was truly a great performance and event, especially for Carole.

Carole King was that excited because she co-wrote it with her then-husband for Aretha Franklin - and Aretha is singing her own song to her on her tribute concert. That makes it very special and very personal for Carole King. It's not about the piano, it's about that very song.

The most successful female songwriter with well over 100 hits in the US - and yet she's not jaded at all but emotionally invested in all of this. Yet she is completely blown away when Aretha Franklin sings this song that Carole herself has written. I wish more people had that attitude. Oh, well, and empathy.

All artists are a surprise that evening. This was a signature song for Carole King & Gerry Goffin and after they gave it to Aretha it is said that it was never theirs again. Aretha made it her own. At this point Aretha was 73 and her health had been questionable for years. She played the piano very rarely in public and her performance schedule was also limited due to age and illness. What you witnessed was the culmination of 51 years of artistry on all levels. A song written by 2 Jewish people, lyrics by a MAN about a woman...mix it with one of the great vocal artists of all time...add ALL her soul and present it to the world. Aretha was born into a world where a person of color wouldn't be allowed on that stage...now she sings for other artists, politicians and the first African American President. Everyone in that room stood up....not only for her artistry but for the mix of ALL that history, known and unknown. What you watched was perfection!

Yes, very true, but Aretha did not play the piano much in the Arista years, not like during the Atlantic years. When Keith Richard wanted her to play piano for Jumpin' Jack Flash in 1986, Aretha agreed, but she also told him she hadn't done that in years. At Atlantic, almost all of her hits had her playing the piano. At Arista, there were albums with no piano from Ms. Franklin. However, any time she played, it was always special.

Carole King was being Honored that night for her work courtesy of The Kennedy Center Honors created by The Kennedy Family that Caroline Kennedy (President Kennedy's Daughter) was MC of for many years. She was one of the first successful Songwriters who was Female next to Ellie Greenwich (RIP). She wrote a veritable list of hits from 1959-1964 before the British Invasion. She made her Bones in The Legendary Brill Building where she worked with the Cream of The Crop that produced more Girlbands than even Motown. Her songs have been sung by Little Eva, The Chiffons, The Shirelles, The Drifters and that's the tip of the iceburg.. In the 1970's she released her own Album Tapestry that became one of the biggest Albums by A Female Artist. In future years her songs were covered by Grand Funk Railroad, Kylie Minogue, and featured on The Wonder Years. In her own way she would kick the door open for Diane Warren who is now the Biggest Female Songwriter of This Generation.

Also, I know you already have 3 reactions to Dimash, but I think this young man is a pioneer and deserves all the attention he can get. So, I would like to also recommend you reacting to his recent performance of Ogni Pietra. This song was written especially for Dimash's voice for the opening ceremony of 2019's European Games in Minsk. I don't want to spoil anything, but I just want to say that the song's genre is more than a perfect fit for you to react. It's a very special song, it's not just another "pop hit". If you decide to go for it, make sure you find a version with good sound, because many versions of the song have mediocre recording from fans' phones etc. Thanks to you and Nani for the Aretha reaction! It was great!!

Carol king wrote the song for Aretha Franklin and the it gained such status she covered it again but they both play piano in their performances an No neither of them ever stepped away from the keyboard. Carol is always excited when Aretha tributes her and Aretha was suffering from cancer at this time, I think throat cancer, so that why Carol was so excited and appreciative

Carol wrote it and was amazed she was doing the one she made a hit so many years ago. Carol did her own version but loved the gospel take on it

Well the late great Freddie Mercury loved her and if he could’ve been her he would’ve been Aretha Franklin which says it all!😍

Please react to Diana Ankudinova - Wicked Game - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZIemx7upgazFeps.html - She was 15 y.o. (16 y.o. now). She is a true contralto. She is a russian national treasure. I really would like to hear the opinions of opera experts.

This is obviously more about sentiment than a study of a legendary voice. I could see that all the hoopla frustrated Linor a little bit in the beginning, because she was initially pointing her laser at Franklin's voice only.

I love your channel and I love you too!, I have a question: haven't you had problems with copyrights? I follow another channel about music, singers, groups and they keep clear to followers that they cannot play more than ten seconds or so of music to avoid penalties because of copyrights. Keep working so good!.

Hi, thank you for asking. We never had problems, and I make sure to pause at least every 20 seconds, I understand that this is the rule. Hope I'm right :D This time was an exception, I was just so overtaken I froze and didn't pause! Let's hope it will be alright

Linor I know everyone would love to see you react to “Alice in chains”any one of their live songs. Layne Staley was one of the most haunting voices of a time. If you wanna hear the most vulnerable and raw emotional singer. Layne is certainly the one. Even when he was broken mentally, he still hit notes and pitches out of this world.
