People feel entitled to private information, most likely act that way in other parts of their lives too. Sometimes they see themselves as better or their target as a lesser being, it's wild. Had a doctor ask me something super personal that had little to do with what I came in for, took up most of the appointment and made me soooo uncomfortable

@vickythefist7062 it's called a deviation of the septum. Meaning the bones in your nose are smashed to one side of your face and you have a hard time breathing. Headaches light headed and dizzy due to lack of oxygen to the brain! I was treated for migrains and that wasn't the issue. I had the same surgery for health reasons. Stop judging others if you're clueless.

About the teeth questions in the comments; not only is it possible they didn’t mind, teeth need proper support to stay in place. When you have a deformity like a cleft lip or palette it is possible for the gums and jaw to be affected too much to properly shove teeth around.

I grew up with two different classmates with cleft lips, one of them had an older sister with one too. It’s always been the most normal thing for me. Now that I’m older I understand the medical side of it, even on a personal level in terms of a chronically obstructed nose, but cosmetically I still see it as such a normal kind of face to have. I guess it’s just thàt important to expose your kids to as many different things as possible so the world isn’t so foreign to them.

I still am dealing with my issues as my parents never fixed mine! Luckily I had a roof to the top of my mouth where many don't. I have half a nasal passage, two difference sized jaws, I have a dimple on one side and not the other...my side scar is very minimal by my lips....I feel fortunate to be able to function pretty normall. Eating one side has taken its toll as I never had molars come down on the upper left and no teeth past the eye tooth on that upper side..only encased in bone and fused to it which was a horrible 3 hour surgery, I arrranged for myself that included in impacted molar below etc...The two surgeons thought they would break my jaw chipping those teeth out! My twin didn't have cleft palate...her face was perfect...She did have a deviated septum.

I am a twin that was fraternal and was the only one of us who got cleft palate. However mine was left untreated for the most part, I did have a roof to the top of my mouth tho so that was helpful! I grew up with one surgery at 15 to remove the permanent eye tooth from up in the gum but I needed that left in! So it was a mistake to remove it even if it was not coming down correctly...they could have pulled the one baby tooth left there as it was an eye tooth and adjusted this surgically as it was just at an angle, the tooth itself was healthy. This left me without an eye tooth on the left upper jawline and no other upper molars, subsequently I only had the side of my mouth stitched up at one years old. I have two jaws that are not the same size, half a nasal passage on one side of my face, two different sides of a smile where I have a dimple on one side and not the other. When I was 18, I had a five teeth extraction which took 3 hours. They removed teeth encased in my upper cheekbone as with no baby molars below, they were never going to come down. I look fairly normal and most people do not notice my issues. I chew on one side of my mouth as I have never had even baby molars on the upper left. My twin was completely normal with no defects except she told me she had a deviated septum. I do finally have a bridge I can pop in for publically going out and for pictures but I can't eat with it. My gumline on the left is as far down as teeth would be. All in all I feel pretty lucky....my nose is fine....I lost my twin to ALS three years ago...she had a perfect face! I am 60 years old now.

Idk, the prerequisite for the show I presume is to have a background on how the condition that is to be corrected have affected the person. Or here, persons. I saw another episode where one of two brothers had a deformed nose area since birth. It was an issue to him not looking like his brother, it's probably more of an issue than us without twin siblings realise. I did not see the question/comment as careless at all.

Omg can you not do something easy like making their noses have symmetrical openings? Why? Why is that so had. I've seen this in other procedures for this Chanel with their only goal to make their nostrils the same. Why? Why can't you make thir nostrils the same? How hard is that? A lot of people have this and I feel like you are just using the issue to the side. Even others have had a nose job and their nostrils are suddenly uneven. OK so skin deep is where you operate. Make that count. Do some continuing education that makes you be able to make the nose holes the same😅

These girls are anxious about a mild facial scar compared to all the serious problems out there? Joaquin Phoenix has a scar very much like this and we don't see people pointing fingers at him. He's considered to be very attractive. I can't believe that these mild problems (done again to people who can obviously afford to get this work done *by them)* is what these men are up to now. They've gotten so shallow.

You do not live with something like this so you don’t understand how much of an actual big deal it is to people who’ve been made fun of for years. Even the smallest details give huge insecurities. And surgeries aren’t just for aesthetics and looks, but for different functions like breathing, speaking, having a fistula, etc. Joaquin Phoenix does not have a cleft lip.

A cleft has so much more internally going on than a “mild facial scar”.

I agree with the other responses. But it's also more socially acceptable for men to have flaws than it is for women to have those same flaws. Also, their bodies, their choice. You're allowed to have a negative opinion about the alterations that other people choose to make to THEIR bodies, but you assume the consequences when you shame others for their choices.

Said by someone who clearly knows nothing about problems associated by cleft lip and palate. There's nothing shallow about helping these beautiful girls, they're more deserving than most other patients I've seen on botched
