We barely got beaten by the best team in the world missing son, bis and sarr. Madders just getting back and it took a corner taken by KDB with them interfering with vicario to get the goal. No shame or need to be down about that result! Future is bright!!! Angeball is the way!

The reason we didn't play Ange ball is because we played against a proper team who knew how we'd play and completely shut us down. Pep is an elite manager and deployed the perfect strategy.

Congratulations to Oliver Skipp for making his 100th appearance for us. Even if he never plays another game for us (which I'm sure won't be the case), he will still be able to say "I played in 100 games for Tottenham Hotspur" which is a lot more than many other players have managed (including a certain Jurgen Klinsmann). I've mentioned before that Skipp is from my hometown so I particularly want him to get every opportunity to make it with us. It's already testament to his ability and work ethic that he is still in contention for a first team place when we have so much competition for midfield places. I will be very sad if and when the time comes for Skipp to leave for first team football. He has one advantage over Bissouma in that we can rely on him to play half a dozen matches without getting sent off.

We're used to Ange ball but what we got was 1 shot on goal which is Nuno ball but Nuno side beat City. After this game I re-watched our 1-0 win from last year under Stellini where Harry scored his 267th there was some great counter attacking football, remember when Peresic, Kane, Son and Romero ran the length of the pitch like sprinters but the final ball just beat Kane to the far post by inches leaving him sitting astride it. The difference between those 2 victories and this defeat was a few thousand miles and one world class player Sonny wasn't there. We've got some good players and some promising players and a couple of bang average one's but only one world class one and he lifts our team levels. I was hoping they would disallow the goal but only because it meant City wouldn't have scored in this stadium and I wouldn't have cared if they won the replay 6-0 it would have been deserved based on how badly we were outplayed although I think Werner and Richarlison have had more unjust criticism since the game than they had service during the game. I do have one slight disagreement with you namely Pedro Porro, overall I think he is Spurs most improved player this season but if you go back to the 3rd round virtually every set piece he took was a wasted effort, yes he scored the winning goal but that was it. Looking forward to the return of Sarr and Son, Bissouma since Luton has been iffy, maybe with them back we can challenge for top 4. Have a great day, take care of yourself and enjoy.

Small disservice to say we played with fear. There was the bones of the brave Ange-ball, but structure felt broke - both Hojbjerg and Bentancur were bad at connecting the pitch. Kulu felt out of ideas as 10 and we were neither building nor breaking. We go again!!

Jhonson is starting to frustrate me, for a player we bought for his pace, he never use it, he is so passive, And when the fullbacks try to play to his feet, hi is so slow to react that the other teams fullback always gets infront of him and takes the ball.

It was always going to be struggle lets be honest. Ange has always emphasised the process rather than expecting a miraculous turn around this year. What I saw, was our team go toe to toe with the best in the world. It was the first time ive watched spurs since Kanes departure and thought he was missed. Richi ran his socks off but the ball doesnt stick to him like it did Kane.. Alas, the pace and quality of football played by both spurs and city was incredible.. the goal was shoddy imo.. blocking the keeper making no attempt to play the ball is obstruction all day long, but cant be changed now. City were absolutely on top of their game. Son may have made a difference, hojbjerg played out of his skin until the 79th minute - i guess fatigue got the better of him. I didn't think the spurs performance was bad, it was a good game of high quality that didnt go our way. Thanks for the continued and persistent updates Ali, its rare i disagree with you, but I was proud of the effort and im still holding on for the prem title this year #coys #todareistodidgeridoo

Sorry Alasdair but the foul on Vic was premeditated and cynical. It's the lead up to the infringement where you see the player's intent, it's blatantly obvious what he's doing and what his intention is... Having said that Man City were the better team and deserved to win.

City should have had a multitude of bookings for completely cynical fouling in the middle of the park, deliberately stopping many promising situations. The referee basically gave them a free pass all match to cheat. One of the big reasons Spurs made no chances in the game - strangling promising situations at source.

Odd game for me, we played well and badly at the same time. We deserved a draw and to lose at the same time and I was quite proud and disappointed at the same time. Its all put into perspective when you remember they are the best team in the world and the other team was Man City. ;)

  • @piratejack2469
    @piratejack24694 ай бұрын

Much too negative for me. Firstly the goal was very dubious. Vicario was being manhandling before the corner was taken and was continued to be during the whole phase until the goal was scored. That's said we played poorly in midfield and that led to zero attacking threat. The defence was pretty good and a scrappy dubious goal proves the point. The midfield with Hojbjerg just doesn't workHe slows the play down and for all his qualities he defensive minded. I would prefer Skip in there as he prpved in the Man Utd game he can be attack minded whereas with Hojbjerg defensive play is ingrained in him. He also tends to make at least two stupid goal making mistakes each game. He need to go. Then again we were without 3 players who could do the most damage to City in Sarr (everytime he doesn't play should be a sign.of how good amd vital he is to Ange Ball) Maddison (cleary not up to speed yet even with the limited te he had on the pitch) and our captain and talisman Son. Not excuses just things to consider when you are playing the best team in the world who are just getting onto gear. I also think the break didn't help they never seem to do...but all in all the future looks good and this trophy thing is overplayed. We've been there or thereabouts for most of the last 10 years and apart from Nuno Mouriniho and Conte the football has been exciting and good to watch and led to Champions Leage games that will live long in the memory. The final was Poch's worst decision making in his entire time at Tottenham. Keep the faith and we will win with Ange on the next 2 years.

A disappointment, but not because City were dominating and Spurs were not in control as they usual were lately. Such things happen and the dominating team could lose. However, what was disappointing was that I saw this coming THREE CORNERS before the silly goal happened. The tactic of harrasing and obstructing Vicario was being repeated without any of the coaching staff, including Postecoglou, all the Spurs players, and even Vicario himself taking notice and action to prevent it. It was done subtly in such a way that everyone did not think anything of it. I noticed it being practiced by other teams too. Hopefully this will be a lesson, an expensive one though.

RE Johnson the last 5 or so games he’s been completely different to how he was in his first 7-8 games. Even though he’s hardly scored he was getting in good positions to score and contributing assists with some nice crossing. The last 5-6 games it’s like playing with 10 men when he plays now. His crossing has become absolutely shocking and he is not getting in any good positions now. I personally think it’s the lack of goals that’s playing on his mind. He knows he needs to score, Ange come out and said it publically that our wingers need to score more and he’s looking at like 10 straight games without a goal and I just think it’s playing on his mind as he knows he hasn’t taken his chance and now Madders is back Kulu will go straight out wide.

I'm now convinced that hyerbole is the ordinary and usual language of the EPL - and thanks to you, Alasdair, for providing the exception with your reasoned and calm analysis. No disgrace in losing to City by one goal, but in terms of 'performance', this was one of Spurs' worst this season - it was lacking in energy, courage and adventure. Ange usually is quite scathing of such performances but seemed intent on going a bit easy on the team. I'm putting it down to a blip - the players just weren't mentally up for it, for whatever reason. I know Brennan is the one copping a lot of flak from so-called 'supporters', but it seems that Kulu is the one in need of a break - which is understandable, given the games he's played and how hard he works.

Everyone’s overlooking the fact that city were so up for it and played really well. They struggled to break us down and we defended well. We didn’t have a great game, but our defence was very very good considering we’re supposed to be an all out attacking team. There are question marks over some players performances and there were some individual errors on the pitch. Brennan Johnson is soooo infuriating… and Werner should have been played in more often… some glaringly obvious balls that should have been played to him to set up an attack. This is our first season under postacoglou and weve set our expectations too high based on what we’ve seen this season. If the spurs coaching staff watch that game back, they will be able identify a lot of flaws and things that need to be worked on as a team and certain individuals. Richi was the man last night… really tried hard and battled his heart out… wore the badge on his sleeve but got zero service from anyone. Loads to take away from that game which will serve us well moving forward. We play for champs league from now and you’d have taken that in a heart beat 5 months ago. The chart looks like crypto… but we’re in the ascendency. COYS!

There has been a definite disconnect between our front 3 and the rest of the side. It seems like frequently we can play out the back with relative ease in defense, progress the ball to the middle of the pitch, but just can't do anything with the ball. Against City, it makes sense, but hopefully with Maddison in tow we can see more affective attacking in the future. Our front 3 seems like its made up mainly of weapons (richy, johnson, etc) more so than creators. I think seeing Werner, Son and Maddison in the side together will see us create a lot. I thought Werner and Richarlison played very well despite the result. Bentancur, Kulusevski and Maddison just didn't really do much for us creatively in this match.

We just failed to cope with City pressing desperately. As a result we looked disconnected and couldn't get forward. The analysis generally from fans that our forward line is poor is misguided. We missed Son but the issue was that City strangled our midfield and we couldn't get forward as a unit. We also didn't set up to defend intentionally as in prior years. We'll learn and get stronger. It's certainly not anything to get depressed about.

The worst part of the game wasn't that City won it, it's that we were waiting to lose it from the very start. There was no belief that we could win it. Alasdair I am one of your number 1 fans but I didn't feel the need to be quite so glum at the start of the video. I was most p***d off when we got City in the cup especially in Jan when a number of key players are injured, AFCON, Asian Cup etc. We weren't at our best but Man City had most of their top players available and after the offside goal struggled to look dangerous for most of the 90. They are European and multiple Premier League champions. We are so early into our new project and already starting to compete with the big guys this season. Two cup exits is not great but this is part of a process. The team and style of play is sooooooooooo different to Jan 2023. I never dreamt we'd be this good so soon after Conte and Harry leaving. The buzz round all Tottenham sides from U16, U18, U21 and women's team is so good. Just need some patience. If after 3 seasons it's still like this then we have reasons to complain. Every other top side now has Postecoglou on their new manager short list and shows just how highly thought of he is. I hope we extend Ange's contract and pay him a proper salary. We are doing this without oil money or some dodgy takeover. Bring on Brentford on Wednesday when we go again. #COYS don't get sucked in to the negatives. #RantOver

There's no need to sigh, Ali. It was a bad game, but we are still miles ahead of where we had expected to be when this season started. I hate that, 'we will keep a clean sheet because they never score at our stadium' attitude. But we move on. We just need to play at our best for the rest of the season and get the players in what we want. Then next season, we can complain if things aren't as we hoped. There was no snap in midfield, and that's what was wrong. They could have got a handful of chances with quicker transitions, and that was what was annoying to me. I also think there was quite a lot of professional fouling going on when we were looking to break, and I don't think that foul on Vic should have been allowed, but I don't really care. It means that they still have only scored by cheating in my book. I don't think City were that good, to be honest, and had we set Timo off running on the occasions we could have, it would have been different. I watched Fulham lose to Newcastle today, and they will feel aggrieved, too. At least we have the rest of the season to look forward to and following seasons from then on. COYS

He only ever really starts playing seriously when Tottenham are either down a goal or he's coming off the bench to try and change the match. Maybe if he wasn't so bent out of shape for not starting every game like he was used to and losing his role in the leadership group, he'd realize that he can be a Postecoglou player. Just seems to me though that he's already decided he's not long for Tottenham anymore and just doesn't care to do more.

Thought he was very positive & agree it wasn't enough for a foul to be disallowed.

It's one thing impeding a player in the box during a corner, but impeding the keeper from jumping for the corner cross is never normally excepted. He jumped diagonally backwards at the keeper....not up towards where the ball is going to be. His objective was obviously to impede the keeper before he can clear the ball with a fist, his objective was not to win the header....which is clearly a foul. We've all seen it given a million times. This result stings like a beach.

I think we all need to get used to the idea that other teams are good. Some of them are really good. Citeh suffocated our midfield. I'm not overly annoyed about losing to City. We didn't play as well as we could have but it wasn't like we had a complete sh!tshow. Better than getting knocked out of the cup by a Champs team. Also, we need a left-footed winger... playing on the left wing... can only dream

Even though we’ve done well against City at home yesterday was the first time we’ve not been hanging on against them and relied on counter attacking. We held our own in possession and we needed some quality up front to make the difference in getting a goal. We didn’t even play well and just lost at the end. We miss a goal scorer like Sonny is and even though Maddison came on he’s been out all season. Yes I’m disappointed we lost and also didn’t play well but happy that despite that we didn’t look out of their class either! They’re one of the best teams in Europe and to beat them we need a bit of quality up front. Look on the bright side we can concentrate on the top four in the league! COYS

City are the masters of the tactical foul in early opposition build up play. It’s rarely punished, other than a free kick, allowing them to reset. It’s a Pep (the genius) tactic throughout his coaching career.

Thanks so much, Ali. I too was perturbed by the over-confidence displayed before the City FA Cup tie by what seems to be an overwhelming section of Tottenham supportings. As always, pride is guarenteed to come before a fall for us. I agree that Oliver did very well when he came on. He played the Pape roll very well and displayed the most attacking intent. I am not an Oliver-hater but I do think that Pape is a better player and I think we missed him vs City. Cheers.

Always quality insight Alasdair. Re: too many options on the left wing - I have a theory that Ange still sees Sonny as a key option down the middle, to give options and challenge to Richy. Sonny is quality so Ange would like to tap that down the middle with quality crosses and Madders unlocking him through the middle.

Agree Ali, wasn't a foul. I've got angry in years gone by where England have been knocked out of tournaments where we've had similar goals ruled out, as their keepers fumbled a cross (Portugal 2004 and Argentina in 1998) as much as I've loved Vicario this season, he should of done better in that instance. Was a tepid performance. But we move on.

watching the game it looked like Spurs were rusty. Also Perrie again shows why he is not right for Ange system. The middle lacked energy the driving runs. The quick passing. Son being gone of course is effecting the front 3 and will be interesting to see what happens to it now Madders is back. Kulu had an off game. City won by scoring a scrapy goal that many felt it was a foul. Now All Spurs have is to league. Try and get top four witch they are capable of doing

Thanks Alasdair. I think it was a combo of things. We had a big break since the Man utd game. Also we had little control in midfield as Bentancur was the only presence there. Son, Bissouma and Sarr would have been huge and given Ange more bench options. We only had Maddison on the bench,,, We must not over react to one bad day,

I found myself nodding when you remarked on Skipp's cameo and the most compatible midfield combo. However - and I'm an outlier on this - but rather than agree we were meh and had forgotten how to play Ange-ball I would say the emphasis should be on how good City were at stopping us play that game. In fact some City fans have claimed Spurs 'had the balls to take them on' and were better opposition than most. My biggest disappointment was over communications between midfield and the awareness of the forwards. Yes the central defenders especially VDV were superb. We are in good hands there, and Vic will probably learn from his one weakness in this game. I'm still confident we are on the up.

When City scored that first disallowed goal from the KYLE WALKER cross in the 5th minute… we had hardly touched the ball … I think our FANS (and the players) felt the same thing : this is gonna be a long day, and we better defend our asses off. Maddison should have stayed on the bench … Against United at Old Trafford in the last match, Ange subbed in DRAGUSIN in the 83rd minute for Skippy to ensure we don’t lose the match. But he didn’t take out Hojbjerg following his 2 almost-costly mistakes … that was another example of Ange getting outcoached. The other was the lack of adjustments on corners with Diaz standing in front of Vicario. They did it in the first half too.

Yes, Vic needed to be a bit stronger for their goal, however, pfft. I feel that Spurs were a bit nervous or lacked composure in position and we got rid of the ball in a little bit of a panic. We may need a fair player like Antonio Nusa to make room for other players. To that end, we missed Sonny last night.

Look...just settle petal. Wait until the full team is back and match fit. I'm sure smiles will return to the faces of all of us. For me personally, Sonny has to remain in the middle for the time being at least. We definitely need to buy another quality striker / poacher , or two. The Skipp bagging just shows me how many people don't know the game. A world beater , probably not but he's consistent and fearless. He did more in 5 minutes than Johnson did all match. He's solid .

Thank you for the video Alasdair. Now, knowing that Antonio Nusa isn't joining, I am interested to see if any opportunities appear in the last days of the window. I am intrigued by Iling-Junior, as I think that his physicality is something that we are lacking in our wingers (apart from Kulusevski). Also, not optimistic about Gallagher joining, because of the supposed price tag. Hopefully, we get one more signing through the door, but Gil/Højbjerg may need to leave first for that to happen.

Thanks for another intelligent analysis. Though sometimes we can over think things. Both teams came with a gameplan but their mid/attack turned up. Ours didnt. Our defending kept us in the game and maybe another time we will have the luck to nick the 3 pts. On this occasion we just have to congrat MC on their win. Onto the next match and hopefully a CL place at the end of the season. Still got ways to go. Either the players have to raise their quality or they will be moved on if we can find better fits for the Ange ball dynamic. Cheers.

Really liked the fact Ange came out and said it how it was after the game. I actually thought Hojbjerg was one of the better players in that game … right up until his two calamitous mistakes. If you watch again I think he actually made 3 of the best incisive passes but in saying that probably shows how poor we were going forward. I don’t like him and Skipp in the same team and I agree Skipp is an upgrade but some sections of our (and probably all sides) love a scapegoat and will always have it in for Skipp , just a reminder though years ago the biggest scapegoat was Kyle Walker. If Walker made a mistake it was jumped on whereas Vertoghen could make a mistake leading to a goal and not get the same grief.

Hi. I agree with you, no foul on Vicario. Skip did do well and lets hope he starts against Brentford. Have seen it reported that Spurs will offer £80 mill., for Gallagher, seems a bit far fetched.
