If you paint the tube black it will get hotter in the sun, which will heat up the air in the pipe faster and since hot air rises it should create a convection current to aid with the off-gassing.
Damn nothing like having Trent Reznor explain everythinig about composting toilets.
1) Only mesh for the top of the tubing? It's going to collect rain and dirt very easily if you don't put a "cap" of some kind on top...there are stuff like that to ventilate gutters, but this tube is small, so you might have to fashion something yourself...perhaps get another 90angle tube and place it on top; also cut it diagonally (longer upper side) to function like a shed/canopy, to prevent rain/water going in easily.....2) you also need to control the direction of air moving in that tube; are you certain that air won't push the smell through the tube in the cabin? This is why people use fans in Van-composting toilets.
How about a solar powered fan for the toilet?

That's a beautiful toilet! I never thought that it would ever be saying something like that but, I can completely understand enthusiasm that comes into seeing something that you've made come to fruition! Keep up the great work because you're killing it!!
Well done both it's looking great - I bet you can't wait to use it - Looking forward to hearing how it works once you start using it - as we no nothing about this kind of set up - Thanks for sharing - Chris & Marianne
3:12 - This 30 second clip about keeping scraps of wood for those "just in case I need it" moments got me in hysterics :D
Securing the pipe outside in case it gets windy ! Definitely a thunderbox !
This is providing a great service in education. I thank all who provide the information. Thank you so very much.
You have done an amazing job!! That little cabin really looks great~ good job you two, good job. Cheers from Canada
Thanks for another great video. I really enjoyed it. Very nice work on the build. It looks good. I was hoping you’d show the top of the outside ventilation tube. I have seen caps on top of vent tubes that swivel with the direction of the wind, so that the tube is always venting air OUT of the tube, no matter the direction of the wind. Actually, here in the States, they sell these omnidirectional toilet vent caps for RV/travel trailers/caravans, which always vent the air OUT no matter the direction of the wind, or the direction of travel. I bet one of those would fit right on top of your vent pipe. Happy Camping
Theo, the details....are amazing. As you say: Brilliant!
Love that you guys talk in euros and meters. I can actually follow the design now :)
Don't forget the walnut magazine rack!!! ha ha Great work! The colors look great.
very well done. thank you
My friends in America had a compost toilet on their land . Three sided with views of the White Mountains from the open side. The toilet was placed over a very very deep hole. They filled it in with soil every now and then, then dug another one. I was never there when it really cold but must have been brutal. Yours looks luxurious 😉
love the vent pipe brackets good idea.
Cool Job 😎 Looks Gorgeous Like the switchup in the🎶intro🎵 too 👍
absolutely wonderful works 😉👍👍👍👍
Really Nice!!! Can’t wait to the caravan remodel.
Fancy ! An outstanding job in outhouse building. Definitely get the mesh to keep out the insects, Theo. I remember the fright I would get from Daddy Longlegs that would be in the outhouse we had when I was growing up in the Texas Hill Country. Ugh!
Hi both ive got to say I've loved every minute of the life style & build from the very beginning, can't wait for every video you make. Take care stay safe.
Don’t think I ever seen anyone so excited about a toilet seat well done good jobbies 🤓

I know isn't it "AMAZING"
What a fantastic job you’ve done 💪🏻😎😍
Plenty of room in there for a little magazine rack, a little box for extra t.p., a little ledge for a small radio...looks fantastic! Add a window ledge for Gingie and you’ll have company for a ‘sit down!’
Is a beauty, next will be a magazines rack plus the paper holder.
Great job keep up the good work 👍🏻
hey you should film going down the yards and shops..show us around guys..

Well, that looks awesome 😎
That is a throne for Kings and Queens :) Nice solution on the bracket-thingies for the ventilation too.

great woodwork
How is the toilet after 7 months of living with it?
Clever people. Well done 👍
Very nice.
I do like a good loo😀 and yours is great guys xx
Have you put in a urine separator? That is what keeps the smell down. Not expensive to purchase and easy to install.
Very! beautiful.
Whole lot of questions at the end of this so hope there is a followup. Questions about how and where the mesh, whether caulking around where pipe exits outside wall, cap over top of pipe outside, what in the world you refer to as another vent and why that is. Up to now, nice.

@@MrWilzSkilz what I meant by cap over top of pipe outside.
When you wipe your bottom what do u do with the paper? Does that go with the poo?
Have you treated the outside wood for longevity? I have also seen people building wooden houses use a thin sheet of a special waterproof material beneath the outer cladding, to prevent water coming in and to lead it to drain at the bottom.
There is nothing better than a loo with a view!
Question: you‘ve talked about a Mesh over the pipe on top. Is there any roof or hood over it? Maybe I didn‘t catch it: is there no Fan involved?,
With professional composting toilets the urine is kept separate, this stops the smell. What will you add to the bucket to cover the poop? How do you empty the bucket? Usually human waste to compost takes over a year before it becomes safe to use. Love the brackets, got to agree with the cover over the top of the pipe and maybe a drain at the bottom. Great work on the new superlatives Theo!
Some sort off top roof on the vent to prevent it from collecting rainwater? 💕
The actual toilet seat looks too far back, that's gonna hurt some leggies..........let's just hope no one gets the runs 'cause all that wood under the seat will be difficult to clean. When the rats get wind of it you may have some extra holes in the walls, it's up to you to use them creatively.

Nice work! Just discovered your channel :) Where in Portugal are you based?
I hope you took out the splinters cause you know what I mean 😂😂 Just before you smooth it out I had written the comment lol. I had to edit it again hehehe
Would you need to drill a very tiny drain hole in the bottom edge of that 90 bend - the one at the bottom of the vent stack? Appreciate you probably don't get much rain to go down the tube, but just a tiny hold to allow any rainwater to drain out?

Going to the toilet should be peaceful, well it depends what you have eaten you Birmingham lot love your Baked Beans. LOL
insulation in the clad wall?? was there any?
Are you adding wood chips or saw dust to your bucket? Found it to be a godsend!
what about winter time when it's sub-zero temp?
Copper toilet roll hanger? Hope you have a little over to do that.
Looks great...if you don't have any mesh you could use a ladies stocking
Where are you in Portugal? I live in a small town and you can definetly buy copper piping.

I hope you put a polyurethane over the stain. Will make it much easier to clean.
Yes, you definitely need stability when you're sat contemplating life 😁💩
I don't get it. Why would the smell and moisture work its way through a small pipe when it can take the path of least resistance... Up around your toilet seat?
Oh yeh, I like that. 'A gap for expansion'. That's what I'll be telling anyone who sees the gaps in my cladding too...😉😄

I'm wondering if you should stain the toilet seat with the same stain. The seat looks off compared to the rest of the top.
Building a toilet... and then says @2m15.. ‘I’m unfortunately going to have to do a really long thin one’ just made me crack up ...I think my sense of humour is proper warped!hahah! 🙈🙈

I don´t get it, either. Construction is pretty enough, but what does he do with the urine? If he allows it to dry up it´s gonna leave a dreadful stench. And the faeces´ drying time may be quite long, especially because there´s at least two people adding fresh waste everyday. I can´t see a way in which this contraption will not smell like hell in just a week´s time!
This is so different to a compost toliet I used where they had a long drop into a pit. That bucket would get so full in like 3 days if it was for me and my bf 😂 not sure your gonna see old poop everyday u lift the lid really close to u 🤢
