No sinker, no swivel, Just a hook and this deadly bait!

Ahoy legends, this week I get back to basics, with no swivel, no sinker, just a hook and a deadly local bait to catch a delicious haul of fish! I'm fishing the famous Gold Coast because the weather was too rough to fish offshore, but I tell you what, I had as much fun as I've had on any other fishing trip! You simply can't beat wading the flats! I hope you enjoy the video!

    Hey Sammy, thanks for making these videos and sharing them! You may not realize it but your helping some people on a level you never thought you would. I used to fly fish every day. It was my whole life. In 2020 my life took a bad turn and i lost most everything ive even known. I didnt fish for nearly 3 years and recently started watching your videos. You reminded me whats its about and all the things i had forgotten i missed. Im back on the flyrod now and building my gear back up. I feel like you helped me escape hell. Thank you!

    Sammy, The device you are using we call a prawn pump in South Africa. The yabbies (pinkish ones) are called sand prawns and are a favourite bait for Spotted Grunter (Pomadasys commersonnii) - they can reach a maximum size of 91 cm fork length and a weight of 9.5 kg. They can reach a maximum age of 16 years. *EXCELLENT FIGHTERS* !!

    Thanks for taking us along fishing. I live in SW Florida. We have miles of flats on our Gulf Coast, here, similar to your beautiful area. You really should visit/fish the flats here someday. I think you would enjoy it. Your technique would work well here with live shrimp, bait fish, or artificials with skilled presentation. Your equipment would be best scaled up a bit here. I use 10 lbs braid with 20 lbs leader. Sea Trout, Snook, Redfish, Flounder, Crevalle Jack, and Tarpon, would love to entertain you on holiday here. Thanks again.

Get to cruise all around the US & British Virgin Islands and fish as much as I want in 100ft clear visibility water. There are ledges that drop off to 1000 ft. Blue Marlin Wahoo Yellowfin Tuna Mahi and big Gag Grouper. I know its not as nice as what you have but for 10 days if I can stay sober for a while the fishing should be 🔥🔥🔥🔥. 😎

    I actually used the straight through fluro in the first video I did fishing the flats like this. I found I could cast the yabbies further with the light braid and it’s way more sensitive. Would come down to personal preference though. Not sure if you made it too the last half of the video but used the bait walking to catch the last 5 fish, they were loving it. I reckon you struggled a bit Sammy due to having no sinker on mate. Even if it's a 00 or 0 size, the tide and current will keep your bait moving. You also get a bit more distance when casting your bait in that wind and have the added bonus of having some tension on the line to feel the bites.

  • @SammyHitzkeFishing

    @SammyHitzkeFishing

    3 ай бұрын

    Hey mate, yeah a sinker could work in some cases. I prefer to fish without one in these situations though. Casting with the wind is the go, and the tide provides the tension to feel the bites along with light braid. If the water was deeper I think a small sinker would definitely be the go 👌👌👌

  • @CaptainBax

    @CaptainBax

    @@SammyHitzkeFishing Yeh, having the wind at your back would of helped and having a moving bait is essential to finding them. Back when I was club fishing we use to hit the S/E tip of Bribie Island (Woody Point to Red Beach section using wriggler worms we'd dig up at Redcliffe and catch cricket scores of whiting at times (August to Decmember with late September being the best) fishing all day. Tides are important as well although they weren't real big compared to a Maroochydore River whiting which are real elbow slappers.
