No Right to Vote in KS???? PROJECT 2025 KICKING OFF

Ойын-сауық

In a controversial ruling, the Kansas Supreme Court declared that voting is not a fundamental right under the state's constitution. This decision has alarming implications for future voting rights cases and could embolden lawmakers to push for more restrictive measures. We discuss the implications of this ruling, the history of voting rights struggles, and the need for a broader strategy beyond just voting, warning against the oncoming Project 2025. We suggest the possibility of amending the state constitution to affirm the right to vote.

Thanks to the Southern Strategy. The white supremacist South originally took the strategy of blocking as much federal power as possible until they realized thanks to FDR, LBJ, and the Warren Court that they were never gonna be able to shield themselves against them in the long run. So along came the Powell Memorandum, the founding of the Heritage Foundation, and the election of Reagan culminating in the Republican Revolution which allowed the interests of the South to not simply just preserve "states rights", but _infiltrate_ federal offices/agencies, Congress, and the higher courts to steer the entire country in their direction.

There is also no right to vote in the Federal Constitution. If you read the various amendments involving voting, they all say where there is voting, the right to vote cannot be abridged because of race, sex, or age if over 17. But voting CAN be restricted based on other factors. And I would not put it past the current conservative courts to rule states do not have to allow anyone but an elite few to vote. After all, when the Constitution was first passed, in most states only white male landowners could vote. Now, the amendments for race and sex would eliminate the "white male" part, but there is nothing that says a state can't restrict voting to people who own 50 acres or more of real property, for example. This is why it is extremely vital that Trump not get another chance to destroy American democracy.

The last civil war in my country, Costa Rica, started because there wasn't clear who won one presidential election. After restoring democracy, laws and institutions (mainly the Supreme Electoral Court: TSE) were crafted to take of care of elections and protect the right to vote: 1. Here, you need a voter ID to cast vote, but the TSE will give all costaricans one when they became elegible to vote. You lost an ID? Go to the TSE and they'll give you one the same day if possible. They take care of ALL the process of registering to vote, you're on their records when you're born, and also assigning you to a polling station. 2. There is only 1 day to assigned to casting your ballot personally, but you have the right to go to cast a ballot. Your boss doesn't let you go to vote? If you tell that to the Electoral Court they'll send the police to your job to get you out of there. Your boss are going to deduct the time you were voting from your salary? No, he won't, or the laboral inspectors will fall hard on him.

So, Japan definitely has a lot of problems, but one thing they have that I think is really smart is essentially a family stamp. Each member of the family gets one and it's essentially their last name (but usually stylistic like a signature) and is used for the same kinds of things we sign for, like opening bank accounts, signing contracts, ect. They also have little cheap ones that you can use to sign for mail and what-not. Anyway, it definitely helps with the "signature always looks the same" because it's literally a stamp registered to you and your family. It will always look the same. I don't know that a similar system really could be implemented here, but if it could, honestly it would definitely help in situations where your signature not looking precisely identical would cause issues like this.

  • @OneEyeShadow

I think checking that a signature looks right is a fool's errand. They tend to look different and copying the look of another person's signature isn't hard. Tell your representatives how you would like to be represented. Petition, write, attend, protest. THEN you can hold your representatives accountable if they listen to the corporate lobby over the citizen lobby. If there is no cirizen lobby of course representatives are going to listen to the corporare lobby. Use media to point out all representatives that do not genuinely represent their constituent. Call for investigation and prosecution of favoritism, bribery, insider trading, and corruption. Selfish candidates put in the work because they want to get into positions of wealth and power. Benevolent candidates don't put in the same level of work because they do not really want to elevate themselves above others. So we need to find and elevate the benevolent candidates and put in the work to lift them up. If there are no benevolent candidates then you need to run and allow others to lift you up into a position of power.

There is no right to vote in the federal constitution either. There's a lot of rules on how states can run their elections, but nothing says they need to have one. It is crazy, but it makes sense when you remember that the people writing the constitution very much did not want some people voting.

Note to write-in voters: The vast majority of states in the US require a write-in ticket to be registered to count. Only less than a dozen states (VT, NH, RI, NJ, PA, AL, IA,, WY, and OR so far as AR and KS no longer do so) allow any write-in vote to be counted. This means if you write-in the Party for Socialism & Liberation ticket or the American Solidarity Party ticket or whatever, it'll only be counted if what you're writing in already has registered write-in status beforehand. PSL has registered write-in status in Indiana and AS has it in New York. This status of registration for write-in being required or not in a states is subject to change via the Secretary of State like how Arkansas and Kansas started requiring registration for write-ins soon after RFK Jr said he was running as an Independent.

Sadly, those who think "eyeballing" is a valid method are either willfully disregarding statistical modeling or they are mathematically illiterate. Even a handwriting specialist uses inferential statistics to see if there is a "statistically significant" difference between one version of a person's signature and another. I signed an e-contract yesterday with my finger on a smart phone screen. To the naked "eyeball" it doesn't look like my signature, yet it is. Thus, signature verification should be done by computers.
