There is a difference between key and progression (also known as mode). Even though the chords are in the Key of C, it’s starts on the D minor, giving the D the home position and thus working with that as your pentatonic choice. If you haven’t already, check out my modes video. But, you can always use the Pentatonic of the First chord (Dm chord, D Minor Pentatonic). Hope that kinda made sense

Echoing his point, when practicing a riff, solo, phrase or chord progression, try to play it everywhere on your neck. This will improve your play quickly. I'm just an average, self taught guitarist and this technique affected my learning the most.

Imagine running through a field of snow as fast as possible, but zig-zagging back and forth as you run. That is Jimmy Page. Now imaging trying to run and land each step in Jimmy's footprints in the snow at the same time match the speed of Jimmy. This is where it gets more difficult. The original runner wasn't worried about landing his feet in the perfect spot. The improviser has the advantage.
I learned where to go also. Jimi page had a way, with melody that’s just on another planet if imo.

Thanks Stich. Love what you do, great advice. For the viewers: Jimmy was a studio musician. He might as well been from Nashville, but instead his sessions were in London of course. Every country tele picker I’ve ever met criticize how sloppy he is. If you’re from Nashville you must learn to play cleanly and as clear as possible or you won’t get the gigs. So it’s one of those things. IMHO I think Page is probably the most interesting guitarist ever. I wouldn’t never call anyone the best. It’s really all about being able to convey attitude through your playing. Otherwise everyone sounds the same these days. It’s really not important how good you are if no one can feel it and especially if you don’t. Jimmy Page feels every last note.
I’m so glad that you mentioned Jimmys “sloppy playing “ coming from his taking risks. Unfortunately a lot of guitar players are not aware of this. Myself included!! Until now!! Thank You 🙏!!
The Stich " Neverlost Method" is pure Gold, you guys wanna step up your game? Trust me...invest in Ian's technique, I am impatient and insolent, yet Ian's teachings brought a newfound insight to my view. Now I have a new perspective on the fretboard, and I am advancing quickly!! Thanks Ian!!!!

Stitch is the real deal. Yes, playing Page licks, but copying like that, it’s an art form. No doubt if he played live, jaws would drop, but not necessarily because of Page imitation. Excellent teacher and plays with total abandon, he should be onstage with other virtuosic players.
Possibly on the greatest most articulate videos of jimmy page’s mind
Love all what you are saying, and is the right way to aproach any solo. I would add a very important part which is frase and timing. The solo has 88 bars, ending with a single note in the 89 bar. The frases end exactly on 8 bars ideas, starting new ones at the 9 bar. A system of question and answer, having the 8 bar structure, end and star where the band is also ending and starting! Its like a conversation. The octave bit that you talk about starts in 41th bar, the middle of the solo, starts the 6th group of 8 bars, and last also 8 bars.
I really like the way you "stich" the ideas together. Just watching this video alone has taught me a lot. You a good teacher and I thank you

You have got to be the greatest guitar teacher out there. Before finding your channel I was trapped in a routine of looping the same simple chord progressions and only playing the pentatonic scale over it with some added notes here and there. One month of really practicing your teachings and applying your insight into the guitar has completely changed how I see music and move on the guitar. You also have one of the best patreons on the web right and it is a steal at $15 a month. Your positivity and love for the guitar is infectious and makes me want to practice more and more. I can't thank you enough Ian. I first tried guitar at 33 yrs old. always wanted to play. bought accoustic and electric epiphone les paul back in 1997. i learnt basic chords and basic songs but was always in awe of mates who could pick the epi up and rip up and down it . how did they do that i asked myself. well life etc the electric stayed in its case from 1997 until the arrival of the covid mayhem. time on my hands but now 56 i picked the accoustic back up first then i learnt why i could not play lead guitar. i had no music knowledge . so from covid to now i have learnt the missing theory. between your channel and 1 other i can now play something audible and musical. small steps. Cannot thank you enough. love it when the Les Paul comes out in your videos. I was 15 and saw the film ..The song remains the same at flea pit . always wanted to play like Mr Page and at least now i got a yellow brick road path to follow. take a bow Ian. big wave from across the pond.

There's a amazing amount of C Major linked marerial in the Jimmy Page collection. If you've ever listened to the old blues collections, most EVERY song is in the Key of C, (I suspect that has to do with Horn Sections) and it explains why C is his favorite key center.
