No Pipeline! Press Conference in Fayetteville, NC with C3V

Cumberland County citizens take ACTION to preserve the rights of property owners and to oppose the “Fracking” Atlantic Coast Pipeline.
April 28, 2015
The Cumberland County Caring Voices also known as C3V called on all citizens of the county to look more closely at the facts of Dominion's and Duke Energy's proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline that is supposed to cut through many private properties throughout the county at a local press conference held at the Cumberland
County Courthouse on Tuesday. They urged all citizens to not ignore the environmental and health impacts of the county of this pipeline.
“The Atlantic Coast Pipeline is not your typical natural gas pipeline, says community organizer Cary Rodgers of Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League. “It is part of a network of pipelines that will support the destructive and dirty method of extracting natural gas known as “fracking” in North Carolina, Virginia and
West Virginia.”
According to the Cumberland County Caring Voices, the Atlantic Coast Pipeline in NC will be a high pressure 36 inch pipeline that will be capable of delivering 1.5 billion cubic feet of explosive natural gas per day along with 592 miles of pipeline, seven air polluting compressor stations from West Virginia to North
Carolina.
Luis Nino, member of C3V, whose property is on the proposed route asks at the press conference, “Can you imagine over a billion cubic feet of compressed gas running thru your backyard? He continues, “I just can't let my sweet home turn into a bitter nightmare."
Loretta Vines also a member of C3V and whose property is targeted on the proposed pipeline route, says “The Atlantic Coast Pipeline is no friend of mine.” She continues, “There will be possible methane gas leakage that can lead to explosions and contaminate our drinking water. No one can guarantee the chances of this not occurring.”
Rodgers says, “This project will disrupt 12,972 acres of land during construction and 4,370 acres permanently after construction.” He adds, “Most of this land is owned by private citizens who are still responsible to pay taxes on land will have very limited use due to this pipeline.”
Vines adds, “The Atlantic Coast Pipeline is going to take away some of the property from landowners, such as ourselves, who have worked to gain and possess our own; but then to be told by someone who is trying to benefit their own pocket, they say 'we are taking some of it to lay a pipeline because we can.' This is so
condescending.”
Cumberland County Caring Voices with the help of Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League will be soon implementing a educational campaign to inform more people about the Atlantic Coast Pipeline in Cumberland County. To learn more contact them at caringvoices@yahoo.com.

What a bunch of short sighted people! My real disappointment in this project is how meager the amount of communities that are to be serviced by this pipeline. The lies that the people are being told about this project is breathtaking. How they get fracking involved in the construction of this pipeline is beyond me.
