I was shocked at that queen g7. No one expected him to force a draw. Let alone in however many moves. It was legit genius play. Probably the best game ive ever seen i think. Magnus vs fabiano was really something in this tournament.

Fabi pulled out a very nice attack in a must win situation. Too bad it didn't work out in the end.

Those first four games were amazing. Impressive play. Both showing their super GM stuff.

Thanks for the videos, also Abdussatorov vs So game 2 was really fun

although you totally right, but the bad scenario still could be playable. instead of Ne2, could be Nb3, and if black attack white bishop with pawn to d4, white could take the pawn by Rook

Jeez, it looked like there were 100 squares on the board and 80 chess pieces. They were spread out over the entire board with each sides king being attacked, along with a lot of central activity. To even try and understand the move order and all the possible lines is mind boggling. This is one of those games where the game was PLAYING the PLAYERS, not the other way around.

Magnus with a brilliant blunder. Really the GOAT.

At 9:07..... Why not take the pawn on d4 with the rook? I keep my defenders for c1 and it prevents the bishop taking e4....

I checked it with an engine, and that's actually one of the better moves. Idk why, but sometimes Agad shows weird lines.

Nice commentary as usual, one thing though, I think you people should talk about the championships being played, like the next games, how are the standings etc. It's quite curious how nowadays we don't have easy access to what is happening in the chess world.

Isn't Armageddon primarily used for determining the winner in a tied match? As far as I know, there aren't any points awarded during this phase of chess tournaments.

I think he was talking about an event a year and a half ago or so. If i remember right, hikaru bid 8:59 and magnus bid 8:58

After the moves you mentioned, Carlsen plays Rf1+ and is up an exchange Full line: Bxd6 Nxh2 Nxg7 Rf1+ Rxf1 Nxf1 It looks dead lost for white Edit: Having watched the video for another 20 sec after the point you mentioned, you can see that they entered this exac position, only by first taking the queen and then Bxd6.

Because at the end of the variation, it results in the same position, after Fabi takes Magnus' queen (Nxg7), there's Rf1+ Rxf1 Nxf1.
