This episode, you build up motivation and character traits throughout based on personal relationships, then it all pays off with Magneto, Rogue and Gambit in the battle, excellent storytelling and animation was amazing

Easily the best episode so far in this series, and easily one of the best episodes in superhero television. The fact that this is not even a season finale and we’re only 5 episodes in just goes to show how crazy and hype the X-Men storylines are. You see a cameo appearance of the Watcher oversee Genosha before the sentinels attack. Magneto telling Leech not to be afraid in German hits hard, but nothing hits harder than seeing Rogue touch Gambit physically for the first time after his death and her saying ‘’I can’t feel you’’, 11/10 episode. 🔥

But he wasn’t right here. At least not completely. The Nathan point isn't on humans and mutants aren't better considering the likes of Mags, Selene, Cassandra Nova, Apocalypse, Sebastian Saw, Proteus who collectively have a body count in the millions. There's bad people in both races.

Cyclops will be the new Magneto. That interview foreshadowed it.

This episode was phenomenal! THE MCU NEEDS TO HIRE THESE WRITERS FOR THE LIVE-ACTION X-MEN IN THE MCU! Everything from the animation, storytelling, music and even the soap opera drama and twists were outstanding. Rogue and Gambit's relationship was so interesting to watch and so poetic with excellent writing, almost Shakespearean. That ending alone had my mouth on the floor. Gambit went out like an *ABSOLUTE G!!!* "Sugar... I can't feel you," nah I can't😭 I loved seeing my boy Nightcrawler, too; he's always been my favourite X-men. Magneto had some of the hardest lines Ive ever heard in this episode alone.

I had no idea what I would expect but that horrific ending seeing Mutants slaughtered, Genosha in flames, Magneto Rogue and Gambit fighting for their lives and seeing both Gambit and Magneto die as heroes was both jaw dropping and heartbreaking, Gambit especially. God only knows what these writers could do with the X-Men in the MCU as they could really built great suspense, drama, excellent dialogue and twists

Disney just dropped a mini infinity war epic in a disney plus series all under 30minutes, that's wild and insane for them to pull this off.

Gambit is not an omega level mutant. He has the potential to be one but he won't allow himself to cause he is afraid of what his powers can do if he pushes himself. I agree. There were some heavy hitting mutants on the island and u didn't see too many if any try to fight back except for Rogue, Gambit and Magneto. There are mutants that could solo the tri-sentinel. The dude you saw towards the beginning that had a chick phase through him in the streets....that was Exodus. He is an omega level mutant. Where da hell was he?! Regardless...BEST...EPISODE....EVER!!!!!

In the comic books, Gambit was an omega level Muntant. But,and paraphrasing here, had a part of his brain removed that push his power to Omega levels.

He went to sinister to nerf his powers because he was too afraid of what his powers could potentially do. That procedure was reversed by a younger sinister and Gambit retained his full potential which he used to fight his alt universe version of himself New Sun who was an Omega Level mutant that destroyed his own world.

And hearing Rogue whimper in pain…one of THE toughest people, man or woman in the Marvel Universe…OMG!

Most of the mutants not fighting is because not all of them are trained, or powerful like the x-men. Remember some if not most of these are runaways, outcasts by society. They don't know how to fully control their powers, not yet anyway.

New Sun was Omega level, but Sinister operated on 616 Gambit (at Gambit's request) to limit his powers and then he permanently burned that potential out fighting New Sun to the point he will never reach that level of powers. X-Men '97 Gambit isn't 616 Gambit, though. If he comes back he could hit New Sun levels at least temporarily.

I loved this episode and how it paid homage to so many comic book storylines in one episode. A little bit of Mutant Massacre, E is for Extinction, Fall of X, the Hellfire Gala…. Loved the cameo of the New X-Men with Glob and Pixie… Even the psychic affair! Although in the comics the psychic affair was with Emma Frost and Scott Summers. This episode was amazing.

They need to rehire the writer disney fired, hopefully it wasn't some crazy shit he can come back from like what happened to James Gunn cause this was absolutely insane.

If yall pay attention to the intro.. you see gambit and nightcrawler fighting side by side... we never saw that scene in this episode.. that means that part will happen in a future episode when they bring gambit back!!!

I think alot of people don't understand Jean's situation, she woke up from a coma that she doesn't know how long shes been in, don't trust her memories only remember Scott and she doesn't even know if that's her memories or not and Scott is avoiding her everytime she tries to talk to him and wolverine is the only one who keeps checking on her and giving her the comfort she wants not being compared to her clone, anyone would just want to kiss that person let's not lie

If they're following the 'E for Extinction' comic, which it looks like they are. That was a 'Wild Sentinel Master Mold' and there were 4 versions of it in the comics, the one in the episode is obviously the 'Three Headed' version and like the comic it wiped out most of Genosha.

Gambit is not Omega, he was supposed to be Omega but he asked Sinister to tamper with his powers and make them manageable. Sinister's price for his assistance was that Gambit had to gather the Marauders to complete the Morlock Massacre.

Took my 3 days just to come to terms with Gambits death. He went all out.

Professor X, dead. Storm, powerless. Jean Grey, slipping. Magneo, dead. Gambit, dead. Cyclops is done.

If I remember correctly, in the comics, Mr Sinisters nerfed Gambit to NOT be omega. In one universe, he is, he is called NEW SUN, in that universe he never been nerfed and he can turn everything he touches into energy, even molecules, he destroyed that universe cause nothing can stop him.

This is such a tonal shift from last episode, but absolutely impactful stuff. I thought it was a good choice to have Scott lose control during the interview as it sets up the later events of the decimation of Genosha. Mutants have to try and appease humans time and time again, yet they are never truly accepted as an equal sapient being. Hopefully this is setup for revolutionary Cyclops. Loved that period in the comics. It was honestly quite hard to watch the attack on Genosha as it felt like a real terrorist attack. So many feels and emotions. And I also loved adapting the Scott/Emma mind palace cheating story with Madelyne instead as it feels so at home given this story. They shared a son and had to sacrifice him together. That’s a bond that he doesn’t have with Jean. Madelyne may be the clone, but she was the one who carried Nathan for nine months and gave birth to him. That parental bond isn’t something that can be replaced. And Magneto speaking german to Leech as they were about to die and Gambit’s “Remember it” callback then Rogue finally being able to touch him after he’s dead 😭😭😭 This is some of the best work that Marvel has put out and hopefully the MCU can handle the X-Men like this. Can’t wait for the next episode.

Sadly for the record gambit isn’t omega level. His powers do have limits to what it can affect but he def got the screen time he deserved. Another sad note the genocide of genosha doesn’t get undone. In fact in the comics it’s much much more devastating and the #1 mutant massacre only followed by scarlet witches M day. Here a lot more mutants survive however, in the comics only 1 does and that’s Emma frost due to her secondary mutation kicking in and she gets diamond form. So interesting to see what happens after this.

Xmen 97 EPISODE 5 ,🙆🙆🙆🙆😳😳🙇🙇 Astronomically WOW!!!!!! Let this be a testament that woke writers can also give brilliantly captivating blissfully enjoyable writing. Folks were hating HARD on Beau Demayo for being gay. Major props to BEAU DEMAYO's brilliant writing of this X-men 97 eps 1-5 so far. Side-NOTE: The hypocrisy that folks online are hating on Magneto/ Rogue pairing due to AGE GAP but they WANT Wolverine with Jean yet Wolverine is several decades OLDER than Magneto. Make it make sense😂

Leech was holding on to Magneto too, which def weakened his powers during the blast.

nah. he was splitting his powers to protect rogue and gambit. If Leech used his powers even passively he would of shut down Magneto's powers.

Btw, Gambit is not an omega. He's an Alpha level mutant. Most Alpha level mutants are already insanely powerful. Omegas take it up to godlike levels. But some alpha level mutants include: Charles Xavier, Magik, Rogue, Havok, etc.

Rob is right btw about gambit being a omega level mutant kind of, if i remember correctly there’s a comic where they basically show how op gambit can be, he’s able to use all forms of kinetic energy in crazy ways and when I say crazy I mean crazy, but because he was scared of how strong he was he went to mr. sinister so he could nerf him 😭

Gambit is actually the strongest mutant there but after coming across a mutant variant of his he placed limiters on himself. If not he'd be above an Omega Level mutant who could even use static energy to protect his mind and be immune to physical mutant powers like Rogues.

It's funny how this series is actually doing the opposite of the comics and fixing cyclop's biggest character butchering arc. In the comics he literally abandons his son and wife (which in the comics she wasn't a clone at first, but just a look alike, which makes it worse when Jean resurrects and he abandons his family). It's the arc that essentially made Cyclops fall out of favor with fans and made Logan the fan favorite. Here we have Cyclops actually recognizing that she's still the mother of his son, and even Logan gives her some room given the circumstance. And to top it all off Jean kisses Logan and yet has a problem with Cyclops kissing his wife? This series is super pro-cyclops haha. The author who created Madelyn Prior has always been vocally furious with what other authors did to Cyclops after (He was supposed to grieve Jean, love his wife, and raise his son, literally a happy ever after, and then the new author went, "No she's a clone actually and Cyclops abandons her because his flaw is that he'll betray even his kid for Jean!!!").

There YOU HAVE IT ALL WRONG. When Gambit leaves New Orleans, HE DOES IT BECAUSE THE SO CALLED "MARRIAGE" WITH BELLA DONA HAS ENDED. HOW AND WHY? Also their "marriage", instead of a "happy event" driven by profund love, WAS A POLITICAL MOVE MADE TO TRY TO JOIN THE GUILDS OF HIS HOMELAND AND STOP THEM FROM KILLING EACH OTHER. Yes, he had a relationship with Belladona but HE WAS A KID YET, BOTH OF THEM WERE, they probably NEVER TOUGHT OF MARRIAGE yet (they were a just a couple of teenagers experiencing PUPPY LOVE), BUT THEY WERE FORCED BY THEIR LEADERS TO MARRY TO TRY TO BRING PEACE AND UNIFICATION. That is because Belladona is the daughter of the Assasins guild HEAD, and Gambit is the son of the Thiefs Guild HEAD. That is the only reason for their SYMBOLIC UNION, because in such a GANSTER situation between gangs of assasins and thiefs, YOU ARE NOT EXPECTING TO HAVE "A PRIEST" OR "A JUDGE" TO MARRY THEM LIKE YOU DOES ON REAL LIFE, DONT YOU?. Their marriage was a SIMBOLIC UNION between guilds whose ONLY SYMBOL WAS THE RINGS THEY SHARED. Hence, when Gambit returns to New Orleans FORCED BY BELLADONA WHO HAD ABDUCTED HIS BROTHER AND WAS GOING TO KILL HIM, SHE FORCES REMY TO WEAR THE RING HE HAD ALREADY LEAVED WHEN HE LEFT. She forces the ring on him, because the ring IS THE ONLY SIMBOL OF UNION OF THAT "MARRIAGE". Belladona inability to move on from Gambit after all those years of exile and KNOWING WHY DOES HE HAVE TO GO, IS NOT REMYS FAULT. THEY WERE "DIVORCED" THE MOMENT REMY LEAVES THE RING, AND GOES TO EXILE FROM NEW ORLEANS. He had no intention to return to New Orleans or to Go to Belladona, because he undertood their relatioship WAS OVER. What does he had to do? Keep thinking on a puppy love that he was unable to be with, because if he tries or return, it will end with him getting killed? Even in real life, if you broke with someone, but THAT PERSON REFUSED TO BREAK WITH YOU, SHOULD YOU BE FORCED TO KEEP DATING THAT PERSON? or in a divorce, when you divorce someone ARE YOU FORCED TO NEVER AGAIN REBUILT YOUR LIFE WITH ANOTHER PERSON? Common... grow up. Gambit and Belladona PUPPY LOVE was USED SELFISHLY BY THE GUILD LEADERS. They USED their childrens in a POLITICAL MOVE. Even if them weren't dating at the time, they would have being forced to marry anyways. That should tell you WHY all that "marriage", instead of a "happy experience" to share with people, IS WAS A DARK MEMORY FOR GAMBIT, BEING THAT THE REASON WHY HE DIDNT TELL ABOUT IT TO ANYONE. He considered himself divorced from that because he CAN'T RETURN TO THAT PLACE and BELLADONA CAN'T LEAVE, even if she says (out of blind selfish obsession mistaken for "love") that they could have "run away together", ITS A FACT THAT IF THEY DID THAT, THEY WERE GOING TO HUNT THEM AND KILL THEM BOTH. Also is not that they were married because they were SERIOUSLY THINKING OR CONSIDERING "TO SHARE THEIR LIVES TOGETHER FOREVER". Both of them were probably on their sixties ot seventies MAXIMUM. A couple ok kids playing with puppy love. But their GUILD HEADS FORCED THE MARRIAGE ON THEM and ruined everything. If anything, he should have told Rogue that He was divorced BUT THEY WERE NOT DATING WHEM THE ISSUE OF BELLADOAN HAPPENED, they were just flirting with each other. You dont go sharing all your sins and traumas with anyone with you are just flirting. After that issue GAMBIT LEAVES THE GUILD LEAVING THE RING AGAIN. THE SIMBOL OF THE MARRIAGE. MEANING AGAIN THAT THEY KEEP BEING DIVORCED. Just that now all his friends in the mansion knows a part of his sad and dark past in that violent environment where he was forced to grow up. He never is saw DATING or flirting with anyone else but Rogue after the 2nd season when they started going more deeper on their relationship so much that Rogue Stops calling him "Gambit" and start using his name REMY. ALSO ABOUT "MESSY PASTS" Rogue has it so dark as to Gambit. BOTH OF THEM HAVE DARK SECRETS that struggle to share with everyone, due to PAIN OR SHAME. So Gambit Not being "a perfect boy scout" is not a problem for Rogue or makes him "less worthy of Rogue" because THEY ARE THE SAME: people with a dark past in a road for redemption.

Remy WASN'T ENGAGED with Bella. He is/was DIVORCED. HIS CRAZY EX ABDUCTED HIS BROTHER AND WAS GOING TO KILL HIM IF THE GUY DIDNT RETURN TO NEW ORLEANS. When the xmen new about his past, he was just learning to trust on other people, and Rogue was NOTHING BUT A GIRL HE FLIRTED WITH. People dont go telling other people about their messy PAST TO INDULGE CURIOSITY. His MESSY PAST, is not something he is guilty for. He was an orphan surviving on New Orleans streets thieving and Jean Luc the the leader of the Thiefs Guild TOOK HIM OVER AS "HIS SON". So he had no choice but the grow up into a criminal environment. It was HIS OWN WILL to finally leave all that behind and become a better person. Also Rogue is also MESSY due to her being taken care by Mystique and hence turned into a criminal. So WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT WHITE DOVES IN ANY OF BOTH CASES. Also his "marriage with Bella" WAS A FORCED MARRIAGE by the leader guilds. He was a 17 kid playing to be inloved, when their parents FORCED THEM TO MARRY SIMBOLICALLY TO UNIFY THEIR GUILDS. But just at the end of said forced ceremory his BROTHER IN LAW CHALLENGE REMY TO A LIVE/DEATH DUEL and when Remy WINS that, so HE IS FORCED TO EXILE FOR THAT. All that experience IS NOT "A HAPPY MERRY" STORY to be sharing with friends at tea time. All that happened in the past. And the problem is that Rogue's Mistakes are IN THE PRESENT WHILE BEING INVOLVED WITH GAMBIT. The writters did a horrible job wihmth Rogue making her act like an idiot on the animated series, and that the problem. I LOVE ROGUE but the way they wrote her on the story, makes her commit MISTAKE AFTER MISTAKE. An yeah some of the parts, especially the dance scene, makes her look like an indecisive fool.

Gambit really went all in this episode. I wasn’t even a huge Gambit fan but damn he deserved way better. No he isn’t omega level but he a hero all the same.

Don't know if you remember, but when Cable time travels or teleports, his computer says "body slide by one." So, he was actually there because that's what it said when he was leaving. Gambit was MVP and I'm sure his death isn't permanent 🖖😎👍
