    When the gas runs out in generator, one minute later you have 100% capacity to keep going. Such tiny batteries certainly aren't credible competition for a gas tank on endurance and refill convenience. The real interesting stuff inverter-wise will come when EV manufacturers settle on an interactive charging standard: imagine having an inverter you can simply plug into your EV to power a job site or provide backup power to your home, just need to set aside enough range to get to the second nearest working fast-charger.

    Ego should come out with a power wall. That would make so much sense. Use it on a daily basis to capture energy from solar panels on your roof, but then you can simply just pop out a couple batteries to mow your lawn, or take them all out when you go camping. Or get lots of extra batteries so if the power goes down you've got plenty for your home ready to go. And because the batteries are easily swappable you wont have to replace the whole power wall when the batteries become less efficient. This makes so much sense... EGO DO THIS!!!

    Your cold test is wrong in all aspects. Firstly running batteries during the cold, has no effect on the batteries, Due to Discharge heat up. Batteries 'heat up' during charging and during discharge. So using batteries in cold temps, Will not have any performance lost. What will make batteries loose performance, Is letting them sit out for awhile. Say 12hours to a full day. The colder temps will harden the batteries crystals and not allow much flow of ions to pass between the electrical power. So it'll says the batteries have 'dropped' a fair % due to the frozen crystals inside the batteries. But once they reheat due to charge or discharge. They'll sorta even out again. But you'll loose maybe 5% or so. But again this only happens when a battery has been left out UNUSED in the colder temps. Why electric things work and perform Well in colder temps due to the lower heating up of the batteries when they discharge or even charge. So they have much higher performance while running.

  • @KillerRaptorr

    @KillerRaptorr

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@lonew2657 You do realize that A lot of gas powered generators also use electrical systems. So even for a EMP, Those will not work ether. Plus A gas generator converts energy by spinning a magnetic electric wheel, to convert the gas motor to electrical power, But that's pure electrical power and might not be good for devices. So it goes into a Inverter that is a Electrical board, that keeps it at a stable power point that's lower then what the electric motor is producing. The gas motor won't have any effect. But the electric motor and the board/chips/inverter and other devices will fry the same way as a electric Generator/battery would. So Gas isn't better for a EMP.

    I have a hybrid solution. Use EGO power station as primary, when it gets low then charge it up with inverter gas generator. I think this setup provides a much more efficient and quiet usage. The fast charger restores battery fast, and if you have multiple then the gas doesn't run that long. At night I think this EGO unit will last without having the noisy gas generator running. I don't think 1 will every take over the other, but that's just my take.

    I went into this skeptical as hell. Could I see this being of some use? Sure. The wife is a light sleeper and running a traditional generator is likely to keep her up. She'd probably prefer just to not use it at night. But is it really worth the cost? I got Dewalt tools so I'll use it as an example. The base model generator will run $450 (without batteries and without any discounts). That's already pretty high. I can buy a traditional generator for that much. But then you got to buy the batteries. The biggest batteries I have for Dewalt tools are some 5ah batteries. About half the capacity recommended for this unit. And each of the 9ah batteries will run you about $200 a piece. Put in 4 batteries, factor in any design changes by Dewalt, as well as battery shelf life ... and you might as well just call the guy on the phone to hook up an emergency generator to your home. And no I wouldn't buy a 9ah battery for my tools because the battery would cost more than the tool I'm using it with. I'm better off just buying the tool again and getting a 5 ah battery as part of the deal. Yes, there are circumstances where something like this would beat a traditional generator. Both in weight and size. If you are at a remote location or one without power and you don't expect to be pulling a lot of juice at the build site, a generator like this might justify the cost. But how often are you in that situation? I'm not a contractor and my builds are limited so not enough to make this happen. Now if this Dewalt generator was going for half the price it currently is, I'd really consider buying it and just using my existing supply of batteries. Even if I never used it. But at the current price? It is an easy no.

    I personally have the ego inverter. It has been great during hurricanes because I can run it inside during the storm. Also I have all their lawn equipment which allows me to save my gas for the generator and not waste it in a lawn mower. As for the close loop inverter the ego uses, it is better for electronics and compressors since it controls the voltage. It may have a slightly lower efficiency than an open loop, but the voltage regulation is more important in my opinion.

    Yea it sure does. The only thing though is they are the slow charge (EGO offers a freestanding rapid charger for one battery for about $100.) You just leave all of your batteries on it and plug in the included charger that is stored inside the top of the generator. If you are ok with charging them all just overnight that option would be ok. It takes about 3 hours on slow charge to charge a 7.5 AH EGO. The rapid charger is 1 hour for it. If you have 4 7.5AH batteries on it it will take 12 hours using the included charger for all 4. I bought rapid chargers for my batteries as I need a quicker charging turnaround time. Everyones needs are different though

    Predator 3500 generator is 850.00 and is capable of around 8250 watt hours on 2.6 gallons of gas which around here is about 2.80 a gallon last I checked so $7.50. Total investment for first use is half the Dewalt and still 150.00 cheaper than the ego. If I wanted a second use without having to stop and recharge batteries it would be over $1000 dollars for the 4 batteries in the dewalt, 750 for the ego (1000 if you got the 10 amp hours he mentioned) and over 1200 for the Milwaukee batteries. So once again to use any of these twice without having to stop and recharge, ego 1750.00 , Dewalt $2500.00, Milwuakee 3200.00. Gas generators aren't going anywhere, they run in the cold the rain the snow, and most importantly they are simple and the more simple a device is the less it brakes and the cheaper it is to repair and replace. Lithium batteries are not known for their long usable life, how quickly does your phone battery stop holding a charge? You really want to replace 1000 dollars worth of batteries every year or 2 depending on how much you use this sort of device? In the same amount of time you'll need a 5 dollar spark plug for the gas generator and a couple oil changes. Im sure these have a their place and are useful to some but give me gas any day.

    Nothing can ever replace gas generators for energy density and places that are constantly cloudy like WA. In my view, the best combo is to have a tiny, quiet gas generator paired with something to store energy such as a Jackery 1500.
