No More Feeling Poor! 60 Creative Ways to Make Money in Retirement (I've Done 4 of These!)

No More Feeling Poor! 60 Creative Ways to Make Money in Retirement (I've Done 4 of These!)
Feeling poor is one of the worst experiences in the world. In fact, when our financial lives are out of control, our relationships suffer and we can even experience illness and anxiety.
And, since so many people in our community are struggling financially - or would at least like to have a little extra cash in their pockets - I thought that I would share a few ways to make money in the years leading up to (or during) retirement.
Of course, I can't possibly cover 60 ideas for making money in retirement in a single video, so, you can read the entire list here: sixtyandme.com/60-creative-way....
Have you found a way to make a little extra money in the years leading up to or during retirement? How are you taking control of your financial future? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below. Let’s have a chat!

This may not be as creative as some of your ideas, but, at age 77, I have worked at a thrift store 20 hours a week for 8 years. Small businesses are always looking for help because many of our younger people do not want to work. I price household items that are donated. I find it challenging, interesting and fun. It keeps my mind sharp as I look up many items online to get an idea of original cost etc. I absolutely love it. Also, I have the opportunity to purchase items if I see something special. Plus I suppliment my retirement with an extra $1,000 per month. Hours are flexable...some of my coworkers work full time, but some only work a few hours a week. One of my favorite things is working with high school and college students who are full of humorous and positive energy. They make me laugh a lot and I absorb as much of that young energy as I possibly can. 😊

My husband made a tool for me to help get crisp images while stamping ink on my greeting cards. It’s a fun hobby. My husband made two of them and I sent one to a KZread influencer that was having hand and wrist pain because of the pressure needed to get crisp inking on your cards. She got so many questions that she urged me to open an Etsy shop. That was 18 months and 2500 tools ago. It was a brand new concept, so the first year it was all consuming. I’ve had women all over the world purchase these tools and send me emails that now they could get back to making greeting cards for their families and friends. It’s slowed down a bit this year but my husband retired at the end of last year. We’re wanting to do road trips. I love my Etsy shop. I’m not in this to get rich. I do it because it brings purpose to my life. My only

Selling translation and web design services online has allowed me to retire from my full time job at 60. I also rent an unused parking space, and as I near 65, I’ve further reduced my work hours to less than 5 hours a week by limiting my service offering to translation. I still enjoy the work and could continue doing this well into my 70s. Another advantage of technology is that you can work from anywhere.

I bought a home with a basement apartment that I rent out. Plus I am a Airbnb host renting out my guest bedroom with bath. The result is it covers my mortgage payment. I love getting acquainted with my Airbnb guests. I only do long-term guests (minimum 3 months) who are often students doing an internship. It is fun!

You can tutor kids or high schoolers after school or for special assignments. If you are good at sewing or crotchet you can teach youngsters or even have a small group of women once a week. Plant vegetables or special flowers on small patios. Translate articles. Be someone’s companion to go shopping or to the doctors office. Just think on what you can do for yourself or was your job once or your hobby now, and you can probably teach it. Have fun!

Oh my goodness, I've been watching your videos for a while and just heard you say you are in Switzerland and I got so excited. I'm from Oregon in the USA and my Ancestors are from Switzerland back to the 1600's. I've wanted to visit there someday in the near future. I was there about 30 years ago but didn't have that knowledge. I am really enjoying your videos because you are inspiring to me. I sell clothing, shoes and handbags online, and this has been helpful in my retirement to make extra cash. First of all, I will start my day by putting a load of wash in and then washing up and getting dressed. I usually shower at night because I'd like to get in bed nice and clean! I know it is probably TMI, too much information. After I hang my wash up and straighten up I will go to Wawa and get a 24 ounce cup of coffee because the coffee in the past couple of weeks have been $1 any size cup! Plus the fact that I love Wawa coffee and they do sell it in bags that you could buy make it to make at home. I drink decaf with vanilla creamer which I know isn't really good for you but I don't use that much. Now back to listening to the rest of your video. By the way for those of you who don't know or never heard of Wawa it is a convenience store. I also do not work too far from the little town of Wawa. Yes they have their own little town. That is where they make the milk, and many other things there. I work actually right behind there! They do a wonderful business and they also have and most Wawa's guess pumps that you can get your gas there too. The one in my town does not have gas pumps. I live in Pennsylvania (US).

Wonderful information. Thank you for sharing this. I plan to do herbal consults as I am a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist for 15 years. I am going to get some help designing a good web site - I've learned over the years (now age 58) that getting help on some of the technical issues helps build things much faster. And having someone contribute their energy towards your goal helps build momentum and adds to it - others' creativity can foster our own.

We expect you to survive. You are needed in this world. Keep in touch as you find new ways to earn money. Ie: For a few years I put an ad in CL and hand pulled weeds. $25 an hour. 4 hr. morning is $100. It is temporary and seasonal. Lots of people need help pampering their yards. It keeps you in shape, too. Cleaning. Errands. Pet walkers make good money. Put an ad with medical places for referrals post surgery, etc. People need help with shopping, errands, cleaning, caretaking.

Pretty good except let us not perpetuate the myth and the prejudice that it is harder to get work as you age. If think it is harder it will be, however if you are still willing to work as hard as you once did and you keep your skills up to date the sky is the limit.
