    7:55 This was interesting: I'd never considered the engine eval in these terms before. I knew it was done in terms of material point equivalent, but the idea of +N meaning that the opponent is going to have to sac about N points of material in order to stay alive is a perspective I hadn't come across before.

  • @ClassicMist360

    @ClassicMist360

    it actually isnt how the engine derives its eval, because once you get to the "position where the losing side has to sac material" the engine will show a different number at that point than what it started with before the combination of moves. I actually play e4 c6 Bc4 d5… Bb3 and I play for d4, it’s mostly just a bullet trick as technically Bc4 is an inaccuracy or mistake in the Caro-Kan but the position is still in -1.0 so playable

    my best guess for 18:20 is they are going for the "pp on the pp" aka put pressure on the pinned piece (the rook in this case) because they don't want to trade material (not knowing they could take material without trading because they are as good as your avarage random noob or anarchy chess user) or maybe they are flexing the fact that black can't en passant that pawn, so black is forced to resign since the forced move is illegal

    The idea behind pawn to f5, if there is one, is that if bishop takes, then the pawn can fork the bishop and the horse, and then if bishop takes again then it forces a queen trade. Not a good idea, but an idea.

    It’s funny how you assume that players at this level „offer to trade their queens“. They probably just see a piece that they can attack and don’t even see the opponents queen attacking the square that they want to move to.

    As someone who trades the queen every chance they get, it’s because I’ve blundered mate in 1 too many times so getting the queen off the board makes it so I can’t blunder mate in 1
