That is a really creative and well thought out tapping a straight hole method. We agree with and are glad you videoed the fingers as micro machinists it is a lot about feel here too, we love the way you have control over the tapping both larger and small hole sizes.
Great idea and simple to make. Just began making a Stuart Beam engine - this will be very useful for all those small threads. Thank you
Proste rozwiązania są zawsze skuteczne i niezawodne .Brawo
A collection of great ideas. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent idea for use of your drill press table support. With this setup, you will be able to use combination plug bottoming taps that only have about a 3 thread lead in. Those taps are great for blind holes but are designed to be used in a mill and don't self guide very well so if you start a little crooked they stay crooked (and break). Another handy tool for smallish taps is a simple steel block with a collection of different sized holes that guide the tap to start it straight. You can also make round "bushings" for each size on a lathe.
geniusly simple and effective
Great idea and space saving too. Im off to WS now..
What a brilliant idea love it 👍👍
Thank for sharing.Brilliant as simple.
Very clever! Thanks for sharing
That is brilliant! Thanks for sharing. : )
Absolutely brilliant. Many thanks😊
Thank you very much. Excellent ways around this problem!
I've seen similar jigs before, a must for tiny taps in model making I suppose, nice job. Alan.
Great ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant video. I'll be making one tomorrow
Brilliant idea sir
Ain't you just a jack of all trades! Neat idea for sure.
Eye opener. Thank you.

Cool work
First class! Glad to see you don’t mess about peck drilling to avoid continuous swirly swarf flying around...Elf and safety.. poo
Great idea!!!
That's genius. thanks.
Great idea
Excellent ! thanks
Brilliant!
Very cool!
That is a clever idea. The table on my drill press isn't removable like yours so I may just have to build an outrigger setup and swivel the table out of the way. I'm off to the shop to see what I can rig up.
Great idea! I'd clamp the vise down in case I knock it during the tapping.
lovely
thats a good idea
What thu??? What a brilliant idea!
I was just thinking of your tapping attachment today and here you are fully displaying it's construction usage, brilliant, I have an idea for the sensitive finger tapping, after removing the tommy bar, you could replace it with a pinned small knob with straight cut knurling on the edge for grip.
Nice!
Gute Arbeit!
Clever idea! After I get mine set up, maybe my dad will talk to me again... he's a machinist and disowned me after about the seventh tap I broke and had him figure out how to get the tap back out :-O He would always tell me after my first broken tap that I'm on my own if I break another one and well then came the second one and he helped again and then came the third one, but then for some reason number seven was where he drew the line...huh ;o)
Bien lo tuyo Tulio! .
Good hands!!
thanks
Is the surface on the base, completely parallel to the surface of the drill surface, when the holes are drilled? If it’s not within a few thousandths you could still have problems.
that is a good idea but I have made a homemade handtap machine and its a other machine that I have its similar at the old hand tap machines
Nice. For metric drill size you can use: bolt diameter - pitch M10 pitch 1.5 = 10 - 1.5 =drill 8.5 mmm/ M6 - 1 = drill 5 mm M5 - 0.8 = drill 4.2 mmm
Здорово, понравилось.
You tapped brass & bronze!!!
Hello, it's a brilliant idea. Please help me to find and buy the tool you're using to hold the metal stock your drill-press at 00:56... at least any key word so I can search on eBay's sellers.

Keyword is drill press clamp. UK supplier www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-drill-clamps-ax23568
looks Good , But Recommend For Everyone Cutting Oil .and Backing out the Tap to Clear it. little instruction never hurt Especially for Beginner's. Also A Drill Press Vice Would Work and Easy to Get at H.F. under $20.
Гениально! На своем станке так же сделаю!
Often goes by the name sensitive drill (press)
I have a common bench drill that has a lot of slack when going down, how did you solve it?

My drill press did not suffer from the same issue as yours.
Hi really enjoy your videos, no nonsense approach and concise. Neat idea for tapping guide, but what caught my eye was your drill table clamp, did you make it or buy it and if bought, any chance of a link to where they could be obtained. TIA

Brand is Naerok I bought it about 30 years ago. I believe it's korean spelt backwards!
Try a 10-24 sometime, they are evil !
What kind of drill press is that please? I'd rather not buy a cheap chinese one but all the others I see are very old, heavy and expensive!

It's a Naerok about 30 years old. i bought it new. no longer available. Made in Korea I believe.
Tpi/bolt size= thread pitch thead pitch- diameter of bolt = drill size , of course this won't be as accurate as a drill chart but it has never failed me.
Hi where did you get the vise grip

No company or person for that matter can guarantee no more broken taps, I spent 30yrs as a machinist, toolmaker and even have done quite a bit of engine rebuilding, taps will break, period, always wear eye protection,
Is it not easier to simply leave the workpiece where it is, take out the drill and replace it with a spring loaded center, then use the center mark in the back of the tap with the open style handle? They also make t handle tap holder with center hole in the top if your tap doesn't have one. Constantly removing your table is way too annoying, this has been solved for like 50+ years lol. Nice tool though.

This was just a demonstration. In practice I rarely use the drill press for accurate holes but drill them in my mill with the DRO giving accurate location. I would normally drill all the holes and then tap them at one session.
Did you make this or buy it?

Better Cast a hand wheel with a knob! With a square hole and machine the rod end square as well.

Yes, and then add some electric motor and pressure sensors and hook this rig to a computer and then write a program to control the whole process and then hire a few people to supervise the computer and then what? The dude just showed some very simple way to hold a tap straight.

@@iankleinschmidt712 Yes Ian, you make such a fine observation about what the *_Main Idea_* is, in relation to this video and subsequent comments flowing from it. Mohamed Zouhairy is very likely a long time subscriber and is aware that Myfordboy casts numerous parts and fittings for his projects. Can you broaden your approach a little, and imagine why he made his suggested improvement? Could it be that he'd love to see such a simple fitting easily attached at short notice for the extremely fine taps discussed in the latter part of the video? In my opinion, it's a jolly good suggestion for those viewers who have fingers more suited to an easily gripped wheel. Now, what was *_your main point_* Ian?

just put the tap in the drill after youve drilled the hole , dont move the vise , turn chuck by hand , job done ,,,, not seeing the point on this one at all.

@@myfordboy The problem with all these guys is that they have probably never built a miniature engine in their lives to know what it is like to tap a 2mm hole in hard steel. It is like our American friends whose idea of a miniature lathe is somethong that weighs half a ton. Horses for courses. Your idea is very good.
