That is a really creative and well thought out tapping a straight hole method. We agree with and are glad you videoed the fingers as micro machinists it is a lot about feel here too, we love the way you have control over the tapping both larger and small hole sizes.

Excellent idea for use of your drill press table support. With this setup, you will be able to use combination plug bottoming taps that only have about a 3 thread lead in. Those taps are great for blind holes but are designed to be used in a mill and don't self guide very well so if you start a little crooked they stay crooked (and break). Another handy tool for smallish taps is a simple steel block with a collection of different sized holes that guide the tap to start it straight. You can also make round "bushings" for each size on a lathe.

After I get mine set up, maybe my dad will talk to me again... he's a machinist and disowned me after about the seventh tap I broke and had him figure out how to get the tap back out :-O He would always tell me after my first broken tap that I'm on my own if I break another one and well then came the second one and he helped again and then came the third one, but then for some reason number seven was where he drew the line...huh ;o)

Is it not easier to simply leave the workpiece where it is, take out the drill and replace it with a spring loaded center, then use the center mark in the back of the tap with the open style handle? They also make t handle tap holder with center hole in the top if your tap doesn't have one. Constantly removing your table is way too annoying, this has been solved for like 50+ years lol. Nice tool though.

Mohamed Zouhairy is very likely a long time subscriber and is aware that Myfordboy casts numerous parts and fittings for his projects. Can you broaden your approach a little, and imagine why he made his suggested improvement? Could it be that he'd love to see such a simple fitting easily attached at short notice for the extremely fine taps discussed in the latter part of the video? In my opinion, it's a jolly good suggestion for those viewers who have fingers more suited to an easily gripped wheel. Now, what was *_your main point_* Ian?
