No Lathe Bowl with Kutzall Discs
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
No lathe bowls are cool to carve as they can be any shape you want, I use kutzall discs on a angle grinder to show you what they are able to do. This is a first impression review of the kutzall disc and dish shapes.

Really excited youve made a video working with these kutzall products! I literally just had my very coarse concave disc shipped to me last week and arrived over the weekend. I've already busted it out and grinded on some claro walnut. I've made 6 little bowls already. Phenomenal discs, absolutely. Matt, thank you for sharing your work! Always a good day seeing that you've uploaded some fresh work! Beautiful piece!

Wow. Such an awesome job. But dang it, you've now made me want to buy a new tool! I've always wanted to carve bowls and thought I HAD to have a lathe... or go caveman and use an adze. Thank you for educating me. New subsriber here. I have a feeling I'm gonna love your content!

@@alexnicanovich3636 Cool that good to hear. I just bought a fine kutzall shaping disc
Matt, thanks for this excellent video. I have a scrap piece of merbau (290 x 650 x 42) that I'd like to make into a cutting/serving tray for cheese, olives, etc. I'd like to gouge out deep wells to hold dips and/or nibbles and to make the piece lighter. How do these Kutzall cutters work on hardwood?
@MattCarves
2 ай бұрын
Can't really say how the kutzall discs will go in hard wood. Probably OK if your doing a shallow tray.
That was an amazing video, and a really nice shaped bowl. I've started using Kutzall discs for carving various shapes but still struggling to sand the grooves left behind especially in the tight spots! What methods did you use to finish the bowl as it looks super smooth at the end.
@MattCarves
Жыл бұрын
Yeah that is a tough one. I have been using the arbortech contour sander, but I haven't decided if it's good yet. I did use a small 20mm disk attached to the dremel as well. I will have to make some more next year to find a good method, it's a tricky one.
Thank you forthe video. Can I skip the middle coarse disk and use the original extreme with original smooth only?
@MattCarves
4 ай бұрын
Yes I reckon that would work. It works with the dremel kutzall burrs 👍
Great video, I'm a long time woodworker keen on getting into some power carving, I have a 125mm ×22mm anglegrinder, would these disc's be compatible as far as you know?
@MattCarves

I run mine on the GA5040C 125mm (5") 1400W Variable Speed Angle Grinder M14. Probably best to check the website as I am only familar with the formats in New Zealand. Cheers for Watching
Wow
HI, thank you for the video. What do you think skipping the middle coars disc and use the smooth after the very coarse disc?
@MattCarves
5 ай бұрын
That's the way I would go if I was doing a lot of bowls. I tend to do that with the dremel kutzalls
What thinkness is your wood
This looks beautiful Matt, what wood is this ? I haven't had a chance to go around the saw mills for a good wood as we don't have lumber yard like in the NZ or the US and this DIY trend has not still hit our shores that much .... thank 🙏you enjoyed watching and learnt a lot from it 😊

How long does this kind of disc last when u use it frequently?
@MattCarves
Жыл бұрын
Have not used it frequently enough to make that call, I know the kutzall dremel burrs last me about 1 year. However these questions are hard to answer as everyone carves different woods and has different styles of carving. Cheers 👍
How did you treat it to avoid cracks?
@MattCarves
Жыл бұрын
This wood has been dried for many years, so pretty unlikely to crack.
How thick is the wood for the bowl it looks like 2 inches

it seems to be a very soft and stable wood. Here in Brazil we have many species, I work with some very hard ones and for carving I use a saw with a dimmer. The most common species here are: Angelin, Roxinho, Muiracatiara, Canela, etc. What woods do you use?
