4” x 5” ci to ci ferncoes work wonders when your in a situation where it is preferable to cut the iron flush with the bell. That 5” ferncoe end fits beautifully over a 4” iron bell.

You're one of the few people that mentioned the 5/16" size of the nut driver that is needed for the Fernco.

Bob, very nice video. I am right where you are at on this in my bathtub drain. Trying to decide if I am in good standing with my setup or not. I have seen both Fernco fittings. Some with bands all the way around and some with top and bottom bands only. Fernco fittings with bands all the way around have that rubber ridge in the center. They call those hubs as I have learned. I have just re-plumbed my bathtub and had to go from Schedule 40 to ABS. Gluing it with the special green ABS to PVC was tempting, but I saw more than one site suggesting that was not to code. I picked up the Fernco fitting with two bands not seeing in stock the all banded around Fernco fitting. Installed easy enough. But in the back of my mind, am I in good shape with that or do I need to pull it out and go with the all banded type? The hub in the center will make is a bit harder to install. I have only so much wiggle room, but imagine I could get it in. Question is, is the juice worth the squeeze? I mean, at the end of the day in this particular application, does it matter?

If installing on cast iron that has rust on, do you clean the rust off? Btw, I just installed one of the rubber flexible ones but intend to replace them. Got two shielded ones today. Going to tie washer I relocated back to the original drain instead of the one going to the water closet.

Yes I would use a scotch bright pad or some sandpaper to remove any surface rust.

I have a rotted out lead bend toilet waste-line pipe from my cast iron trunk. I would like to slide a 4 inch PVC pipe into the lead using a Fernco coupling. Any advice? Thank you

I like using the mission couplings that have four bands, with the inner metal sleeve that has two bands on it. Cost more but are much better than the two band fernco's we always see. I feel it's a more solid connection and the extra bands keep the pipes in alignment. Important for something that's likely going to be buried in the wall or ground! I feel comfortable though using two band fernco's for vent connections.

+Progrocker70 Agreed, I use the four band "Husky Couplings" for everything other that vent lines in which case I use a conventional no-hub coupling. Solid couplings which make for a much better job! Thanks for watching. Regards, Bob.

What about smooth on the inside vs stops in the middle?

IMO, stops are a better way to go but I sometimes will use a fernco coupling w/o the stop. Whatever will get the job done!

Home Depot and Lowe's don't carry all of those coupling. I need one to go from three inch copper to three inch PVC. They don't have them.
