No Fly Britain: what's air travel like if you're disabled?
What's it like to fly in Britain when you're in a wheelchair ? As we continue our series on what sort of legacy the Paralympics has left behind a special report on the problems of travelling by air.

Before booking the flight they need to ask all questions and make sure they know there is a wheel chair user and if they will accommodate them.
Im too lazy to wear a suit and tie and I can walk. I give it up to this chap for making the extra effort to dress like a champ. Bravo Mate.
If it’s such a trial and so unpredictable just don’t do it! There’s no way on this planet I’d put myself through anything like this if I was disabled! Planes, like most other forms of transport, pander to normal passengers first. They’re the bulk; the bread and butter. It might seem discriminatory, but life’s like that and you just have to accept it! To illustrate this further I’m a shoe size 12; one size outside the “central zone” of adult sizes 6-11. It infuriates me that bigger sizes are not catered for more widely, but that’s because there’s less demand. It’s annoying that I can’t always have the socks and/or trainers in the size I want! But unfortunately there’s little I can do! 😫

@@Spanglefangle There’s no need for a comment like that! That unequivocally proves my point! I want more availability in size 12, but it’s going to happen anytime soon is it!
i promised you i will raise the voice for people with disabilities. and their rights and their needs.
2017 - 5 years on..... From my own personal experience ..... Gatwick Airport (LGW) Assistance & care & help were 4* Much could be learnt from them by other airports! Stansted Airport (STN) Assistance & care were a low 2* People not knowing what they were doing! Sangster International Airport (MBJ) were a good 4* Great Assistance & care! HERAKLION AIRPORT (HER) 1* - Terrible experience!

damed its a discrimination against disability . sue this company .
You can always fly without a handler. You simply ask someone on your flight to be your temp handler. Offer a bit of compensation like 50 bucks, and Im sure nearly anyone would agree, and most would not accept the compensation.

I don't need a handler, presumably two disabled adults travelling together with no carer don't need care at their destination, so why do they need care on a flight. I must have been lucky the times I've flown alone as it's never been a problem. It's actually worse when I'm with my partner, I've been known to point out I'm on a trip with my fiance, not my carer.

You could give me £50 any day to be your chaperone! 😜
There should be A qualified carer on all airplanes for people with disabilities. and at least a little bit helping hand for people with disabilities.
