    I have been searching for sharpening videos lately, and I was really lucky to find this video. I just got this aligner, and I can say it was a game changer for me. Thank you for this little trick.

    Looks like a great teaching guide. Just be sure you have to have the same thickness of stones or your angle will change. Thank you for the demo!

    I got a 17 dollar Smith's Lansky ripoff and used that with sandpaper taped on the diamond stone to get hair whittling edges just to show it can easily be done. Glad you made this here video to show how easy it is with a little know how.

    Nicely done! Enjoyed watching. Earlier hurdle for this configuration on the aligner is differential thickness of stones over a sharpening progression changing angle apex. Similar issue with many clamped systems with numerous solutions. A little blue painters tape on the blade help that clamp stay in position with less pressure on the plastics. My Aligner over 20 years old (pre brass insert). Think it was best of the early guided systems because it could be used in many configurations and with a multitude of stones. What a Great learning tool, and GREAT video exploiting it ! I vote for a series on the Aligner ... Reasoning: Training people on this is so cool ..., when they get their first hair whittle or hair cleave, that smile of amazement is a precious share.

    I used to have this but with stone holder and 3 DMT stones as complete system.. Ive never used the clamp cause i just combined the DMT stone and holder with lansky clamp.. Thats how i started to sharpen my knives and i reached great results.. Good Video men..

    Years ago I used Lansky diamond stones with a Gatco clamp. It also worked well with the extra adjustability. It's great to hear what others did mixing sharpeners like that.

    Great ideo G. i never thought of using that DMT guide Very cool. Awhile ago, I was going to buy the diafold stones, and found it was actually about the same if not cheaper to buy the kit. I didn't buy it, but if I had, I'd have the aligner. I have some cheap bench stones, both diamond and Arkansas/silicon carbide. Been thinking of getting some water stones to add to the lineup. Been trying not to use the KME so much, and get back to freehand, but I'm not the best freehander. I can get a decent working edge, but not an edge like I get on the KME. Maybe I'll try this. It might help build that muscle memory that seems to be the key to a keen edge. Once you get into the knife hobby, it's easy to spend as much for various sharpening stones or systems as you do on the actual knives. Always chasing that next best stone set or some super duper so easy a monkey can do it system, lol.

    @@Outpost_76 it works an absolute champ for big knives. Much quicker than something like the Hapstone R series, as there is so much more stone to edge contact. It gets a bit dodgy on the smaller knives as angles get more obtuse and I really wouldn't want to sharpen a filet knife with one. I bought four total, as I plan to put together a portable sharpening kit. Thinking seriously about doing onsite sharpening as a side hustle.

    How did you end up with the 17 degree angle by just extending the adjusters to the max. Any less extension than that the angle would change. It looks like it's sort of arbitrary result that doesn't depend on using the DMT designed angles on the clamp. Am I missing something?

  • @DannyB-cs9vx
    @DannyB-cs9vx3 жыл бұрын

    All of the stones would need to be at the same height off of the bench. So using a single double sided stone would be perfect. Using different stones would give you a different angle. I still like it and will get one.

    @@Outpost_76 yeah your doing a really good job. I'm just not very good at freehand sharpening but I really want to experiment with all these steel's I got but I'm afraid to dull them out because I'm incompetent with sharpening. I may just need something like this angle guide until I get the hang of it. I'll order one next week along with a decent strop.

    Thanks for a great video! Your video is way better than the rubbish video of DMT!... The clown of DMT says you take 6 strokes on each side... That's Thumbsuck!... Why not 5 (or 7 or 8 or 10 or 100 etc)?... Never did he even mention "burr"!!!... The number of strokes needed depends on the STATE OF YOUR BLADE!!!... That's why I say "6 strokes" is Thumbsuck!!! He's a wanker, most probably HE needs (only) 6 strokes!? Thanks for a great video, I've never thought of using my Aligner this way!!! 👍👍👍

    I too think the 250 grit side is a little soft but they go a long way before you'll need to replace it. It does put a nice edge on D2 and I've even done K390 on this same stone,that will be in a video soon.

    No part of this rubs the stone. It's not those clip style that also ride the stone surface.
